Dragontears: Discography

Dragontears is a side project of the rock based group BABY WOODROSE from Denmark. A recording only band headed by guitarist Lorenzo Woodrose which is quite far away from the usual

heavy rock style here. Enlarged by members of the band ON TRIAL they recorded their debut during one week between Christmas and New Years Eve in 2005 at the Black Tornado studio in Copenhagen. This album named '2000 Micrograms From Home' was offered in 2007 by Bad Afro Records and was originally concipated as a vinyl release only. Six cuts are included deriving from improvised jam sessions deep in hallucinatory psychedelia.

One year later they followed this path with the second release 'Tambourine Freak Machine'. Once again

you will detect all the ingredients what the genre is able to present - trippy spacey songs with hypnotic parts, a lot of electronica and experimental elements. DRAGONTEARS is a recommended project for fans of the genre which shows a retro as well as a modern approach.

01. DRAGONTEARS - 2000 MICROGRAMS FROM HOME 2007

"2000 Microgramms From Home" marks the debut of Lorenzo Woodrose's DRAGONTEARS project. Originally playing stoner rock in the band BABY WOODROSE the musicians are turning deep into the psych/space territory here. Heavy rocking elements are taking a backseat and instead of that we have tons

of echo guitar and vocals, dreamy spaced out sounds presented in a hypnotic mood. I started to listen to the band with the follower 'Tambourine Freak Machine' first and it totally convinced me and therefore was praised with five stars. Surely a heavy load for this debut album which contains six songs representing a vinyl length of nearly 40 minutes. This is a very good listenable album for fans of psychedelic and spacey trips. Unfortunately DRAGONTEARS is a studio project what I know and the chance to enjoy this music live on a stage is very very small - but never say never ...

02. DRAGONTEARS - TAMBOURINE FREAK MACHINE 2008

DRAGONTEARS is a side project of the stoner rock band BABY WOODROSE where guitarist Lorenzo Woodrose can be treated as the mastermind. They are additionally supported by some members of another danish band called ON TRIAL. First of all - don't expect much heavy psych/space rock in the vein of

HAWKWIND or 35007. 'The concept is letting songs evolve freely in the sonic playground' they write on the myspace site. That's the case - and this is prepared in a more hallucinatory transcendental way which lets you questioning the musician's stoner rock origin in any case. The album sounds like recorded on bloc and is pointing to the former hippiesque 60/70s times a lot. But on the other hand this is not retro exclusively because they also use several innovative electronic ingredients. 'Tambourine Freak Machine' is recommended with a relaxed spacey base and nice melodies as well as portions of weirdness which makes this also interesting for krautrock fans. A special mix which is hardly comparable ...

03. DRAGONTEARS - TURN ON TUNE IN FUCK OFF!!

Danish Dragontears released their third album at the beginning of this month. Although I really enjoy also the two previous albums (2000 Micrograms from Home, 2007 and Tambourine Freak Machine, 2008), this

brand new one is possibly the best. So it's downright sad that Turn on Tune in Fuck off!! is at the same time also the last Dragontears album. The band's main figure, Baby Woodrose's Lorenzo Woodrose has decided that from now on he will incorporate also his weirdest and most psychedelic ideas into the albums of the main band. Well, it's of course a good thing considering the future Baby Woodrose albums! And these former and present members of On Trial and Baby Woodrose surely have several other projects as well.

Various – Do The Pop! Redux Part One 2007

High Energy Australian Rock'n'Roll 1976 - 1981

Includes rare Live radio Birdman track and Unreleased tracks by the Hitmen, Lipstick Killers, 31st, Reals, Survivors, Slaughterhouse 5, Shy Omposters, The End & ME262 - plus bonus tracks from 1974 by TV Jones and Kid Galahad & The Eternals (aka The Saints)!

RADIO BIRDMAN

"Do The Pop! Redux Part One" is a double CD compilation released in December 2007 by the Australian
THE LIPSTICK KILLERS

label Shock Records under their Savage Beat! imprint. It serves as the first installment of an expanded trilogy documenting the history and evolution of the Australian punk, post-punk, and garage rock scene.

THE SCIENTISTS

This release is a follow-up to the highly successful 2002 compilation, "Do The Pop! The Australian
THE HITMEN

Garage-Rock Sound 1976-1987. While the original 2002 version featured 50 tracks, the Redux series was designed to provide a much more extensive archive, aiming for roughly 150 tracks spread across three volumes. This first part focuses heavily on the early, raw years of the scene, covering the period from 1976 to 1981.

THE SUNNYBOYS

The compilation features rare recordings, unreleased tracks, and iconic anthems of the Australian underground. It maps out the musical geography from the birth of punk in Brisbane and Sydney to its evolution into power-pop.
Some of the most notable acts and tracks included are:
01. The Saints: Features the iconic "This Perfect Day", alongside a rare, primitive 1974 rehearsal version
THE SAINTS

of "(\I'm) Stranded" back when the band was still called Kid Galahad & The Eternals.
02. Radio Birdman: The pioneers of Australian garage punk, along with tracks from key spin-off groups (splinter bands) like The Visitors, The Hitmen, and New Race.
03. TV Jones: A pre-Birdman outfit featuring Deniz Tek, providing historical context to the roots of the scene.
04. The 31st & The End
: Brisbane bands featuring members who would later go on to form the acclaimed Died Pretty.
05. Other Notable Artists: Includes tracks by the Sunnyboys, The Flaming Hands, ME262, and various other contemporaries of the punk era.

THE END

Collector's Value: The release comes with a highly detailed, informative booklet (sleevenotes) filled with
THE 31ST

rare photos, making it a valuable historical archive for collectors.
Critical Response: Music critics (such as in Record Collector and The Guardian) praised its immense historical value in mapping out a geographically isolated scene. However, some noted that because it targets the very early years, it leans heavily into raw, lo-fi punk, making it more appealing to die-hard fans than casual listeners.

The Dovers: We're Not Just Anybody 1966 (The Complete Singles Collection) 2024

The Dovers were an American garage rock band of the mid-1960s. The Dovers were an example of

mid-1960s folk rock, psychedelic rock and pop, heavily influenced by the British Invasion and American groups such as The Byrds.
The Dovers were from Santa Barbara, California, and started their band under the name The Vandells. They began their recording career as The Dovers in 1965 with the Miramar Records release "She's Gone"/"What Am I Going To Do?," which reportedly was a minor hit in the Santa Barbara–Ventura County area.

Three singles followed in late 1965 and early 1966, showing The Dovers' interest in folk and pop; none of

their four singles met with national success, and The Dovers broke up shortly afterward. The Dovers went largely unnoticed by music collectors until garage rock compilation albums were released in the late 1970s and early 1980s. A cult following developed around the group, who became known among collectors for their catchy songs and wistful vocals.

"What Am I Going To Do" is available on Rhino Records' Nuggets box set. "She's Gone" is given on

Pebbles, Volume 2, while "She's Not Just Anybody" is available on Pebbles 8, Southern California 1. The group's last sessions were in May of 1966. Original bassist Robbie Laudewig died in the late '80s. In 2001, the Misty Lane label released a complete collection of the group's material.

Pebbles, Volume 12: The World is a compilation album featuring psychedelic and garage rock musical artists from outside North America and the UK that were active in the 1960s. It is a compact disc installment of the Pebbles series and was released on AIP Records on October 5, 1999.

Though the album specifies that all the recordings were produced outside North America and the UK,
the Rokes, the Shamrocks, and the Scorpions were British outfits who moved abroad across continental Europe. Despite the geographically wide-array of material, most of the groups were heavily influenced by bands of the British Invasion. Musical highlights include the Shamrocks' R&B single, "Midnight Train", which was not included on their cult classic album. A unique French cover version of John Mayall's "I'm Your Witchdoctor", retitled "Curieux Docteur", is performed by Noel Deschamps. Additionally, Sir Henry and His Butlers' "Pretty Style" exhibits psychedelic pop and exotic sitar instrumentals.

Pebbles, Volume 12: The World was the first reissue for nearly all of its contents. Although some of the songs are covered by other artists to an extent that they are more common than others, the album also marks the most commercially accessible release of the material in the U.S. and the UK.

[ This collection features 27 mid-'60s beat/punk singles from bands outside North America and the U.K., although a few of these bands were actually British outfits that moved abroad (the Rokes
to Italy, and the Shamrocks and the Scorpions to Germany). Most of these singles have not been previously reissued. To their credit, the compilers have cast their net far and wide, encompassing not just continental Europe, but also New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and even Lebanon.

The chief flaw of the volume is one that afflicts many such '60s anthologies: there are too many covers of songs (often R&B classics, like "Roadrunner" and "I Can Tell") that were done better by much more famous British bands. Nonetheless, there are some class selections here, particularly when the bands go out of the routine R&B rave-up orbit into poppier or more psychedelic territory.

Among the more satisfying entries are the Four Rockets' (from Belgium) "The Place Where She Lives," with its mod chords; the Shamrocks' hot R&B single "Midnight Train" (which is not on their cult-favorite album); and Noel Deschamps' fine French cover of John Mayall's "I'm Your Witchdoctor" (retitled "Curieux Docteur"). Los Salvages' (from Spain) "Las Overjitas" is as raw a bash as continental bands managed; Japan's Bunnys merge British Invasion guitar with the Shadows on "Moanin'"; and Sir Henry & His Butlers' (from Denmark) "Pretty Style" is trance-inducing pop psychedelia with sitar.

Everything NUGGETS II should have been and more!
After the abysmal VOL. 10 of the PEBBLES series, VOL. 12: THE WORLD is the quintessential compendium of international garage rock, from Japan to Sweden and back again, covering some of the least expected countries on the globe (Lebanon, too!).

Kicking off with a Japanese instrumental, "Moanin'", packed with marvelous wall-to-wall guitar and keyboard work by The Bunnys, the CD never lets up from there! Belgium's The Four Rockets' go Merseybeat with a vengeance in "The Place Where She Lives" and Germany's The Shamrocks go to town on "Midnight Train". Other highlights include: The Shake Spears' "I Can Tell" (Belgium), The Henchmen's "Baby What's Wrong" (Australia), The Phantoms' "Roadrunner" (France), The Klan's "Already Mine" (Belgium), The Merrymen's "Walking Down Lonesome Road" (Sweden), The Nicols' "She Had a Name to Find Out" (Holland), ah hell, every single track is an exciting discovery you'll love! If I had to choose a favorite, it would be Evariste's "Connais-tu l'animal que inventa le calcul integral?", a French-language oddity, plastering to vinyl a schizophrenic's bad acid trip.

Were you disappointed with NUGGETS II, that huge boxed set with only a few really great rock-out tunes and too much psychedelia and Beatles rip-offs? Well, here is the real deal: 27 tracks of international garage/punk genius, every one of 'em a classic. Don't hesitate to go on this global trip through the hidden gems of Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand!

Volume 12 of the Pebbles series (which, curiousy, was released before volume 11) takes listeners around the world, serving up 27 tracks of globetrotting garage rock madness! Now, any fan of
international garage can probably tell ya that those boys and girls overseas knew how to rock just as hard as the U.S. of A., and can often outdo their stateside counterparts.
This set certainly makes a
good case for it; these songs rule! I mean, just listen to "Moanin'," an eye-wateringly wild instrumental courtesy of Japan' own the Bunnys. Lead stringman Tekashi Terauchi rips his guitar apart, unleashing unholy clouds of pure rockin' noise for your listening pleasure.

There's also the acid-tinged sneerfest of "Already Mine," courtesy of Belgium's Klan, and "Midnight Train," a mind damaging boogie from Germany's own Shamrocks. The Four Rockets (also from Belgium) provide a punked-up British Invasion-style pounder by the name of "The Place Where She
Lives," and a French hero by the name of Noel Deschamps does a world-burning cover of "I'm Your Witchdoctor." The (Portugese) Satins do a way-cool take on Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business," and the Cedars (dig this: they're from Lebanon!) contribute a classic piece of teen sneer by the name of "Hide If You Want To Hide."
And there's the Phantoms (Holland), who do an absolutely unbelievable version of Bo Diddley's "Roadrunner." It's a literal screamer, with the kind of unbridled insanity that makes garage rock so much fun in the first place. France's Evariste contributes another (equally appeling) all-out weirdo by the name of "Connais-to L'animal Que Inventa Le Calcul Integral?" (My French isn't great, but I believe it means something along the lines of "Do You Know The Animal Who Invented Integral Calculus?"). Anyway, get it. You'll love it!
