Georg Wilfinger comments on the new album single : "The title track “Washington State Charm” is where things really lock in. Joe wrote this one — same genius behind all of “Unterweger” — and he’s been shaping most of our upcoming new record alongside our drummer Simon. The two of them have been studying jazz together over here at a music conservatory in Austria, and you can hear that push and pull all over this track. It’s technical, but never just for the sake of it — everything still hits with groove, weight, and intent through all the brutality.

 

And the track's story behind it is just as heavy: July 14th, 1974 — Lake Sammamish State Park: Thousands of people out in the sun, families hanging out, swimming, just a normal summer day where nothing’s supposed to go wrong.

But right there, in broad daylight, Ted Bundy used nothing but charm and manipulation to abduct two women — Janice Ott and Denise Naslund. That contrast and false sense of safety, that’s the core of this song.""

Originally founded as a solo project by singer Georg Wilfinger (ex-Miasma) in 2010 in Austria, MONUMENT OF MISANTHROPY has released three studio albums, an EP and a demo up to now. Previous full-length album "Vile Postmortem Irrumatio" was released in August 2024 and drew roaring reviews worldwide.

Those relentless purveyors of auditory violence and “Mindhunters” of brutal Death Metal — have crawled back out of the basement with a brand-new full-length slab of extremity entitled 'Washington State Charm’ .

The new opus is a wholesome little concept album chronicling the coming-of-age story of a serial killer: the awkward upbringing, the early extracurricular activities, and the grand finale on the electric chair, America’s probably most prolific serial killer , Ted Bundy.

VERBA SERPENTIS formed out of the shadows of Klagenfurt, Austria, in 2024. Soon after, they released their debut EP ‘OPHIDIC GNOSIS.’ Originally formed as a duo by musicians ACHLYCET and TENEBRIS, the band reached their final form with the addition of MALPHAS and SOMNIFER.  Together, the band is bound by a shared vision of transcendence through darkness.

Richthammer is a Black/Death Metal band formed in 2009 in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, Austria. Rising through energetic live shows and contest success, they released their first demo "Gematert Geschunden Verheert" in 2012. Their 2018 concept album "Ascheland" marked a creative breakthrough, followed by major festival appearances and tours. After lineup changes and a brief hiatus, the band continues evolving, currently working on new material.

The roots of Richthammer trace back to the year 2009 when the Black/Death Metal band was founded in Waidhofen an der Ybbs. The early years were characterized by energetic concerts and participation in various band contests, which not only provided experiences but also earned them a well-deserved victory. 

In 2012, Richthammer produced their first demo titled "Gematert Geschunden Verheert" at the Vienna-based Fast Forward recording studio. This marked the band's initial foray into the world of audio recordings and laid the foundation for their creative development. 

The subsequent years brought not only more impressive live performances, including appearances at the Donauinselfest, international shows, and support gigs for bands like Tyr and Moonsorrow but also significant changes in the lineup, style, and appearance of the band. 

In 2016, the intensive work on the concept album "Ascheland" began, eventually seeing the light of day in March 2018 under the direction of producer Jay Hundert and the label Studio Hundert. This album not only represented a creative peak for Richthammer but also showcased the band's ability to evolve musically. 

The years 2018-2019 marked further milestones for Richthammer during the "Ascheland Tour," including performances at Kaltenbach Open Air, Metal Days, Sick Midsummer, Donauinselfest, and support for bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Rotting Christ, Carpathian Forest, Nocte Obducta, Bethlehem, Theotoxin, and Noctem. 

The change in guitarists in 2019, from Manuel Schumach to Noctar, brought new impulses and a fresh perspective to the musical project.  

The enforced break from 2020 served as a period of reflection and creative renewal for the band, during which Richthammer prepared for the upcoming chapter in their musical journey. Lu took over as the new guitarist during this time. 

Currently, Richthammer is in the production phase of their new album. This project promises a bilingual orientation and demonstrates the band's continued willingness to explore new sonic horizons and deepen their morbid, abstract vision of Black/Death Metal. Richthammer remains a captivating and constantly evolving chapter in the Austrian metal scene.

TARLUNG is a doom / sludge power trio from Vienna, Austria. Since 2013, TARLUNG stand for a thick and colossal sound: Two low-tuned guitars, a hard-hitting drum-set and brutal vocals create an earth-shattering live sound and mesmerizing records.

TARLUNG was formed in late 2013. After just 6 months the band recorded their self-titled album at DeepDeepPressure Studios and released it before playing a single live show. A series of gigs in Austria and Germany followed, with bands like Saturnalia Temple, EyeHateGod, Arabrot, Suma and Conan.

In 2016 TARLUNG hit the DeepDeepPressure Studios again to record the "Void" EP and the follow up full length album "Beyond the Black Pyramid" in a three-day session. "Void" was released on tape in October 2016.

In 2017 TARLUNG had their first festival appearance at United We Stand, along with other gigs in Germany and Austria. The second full length "Beyond the Black Pyramid" was released in May, with the support of Black Bow Records (Jon Paul Davis of Conan). The cover art was created by Alex Eckman-Lawn.

2018 brought touring through the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland with Throne from Italy, including the Stoner Doom Festival in Katowice.

2019/20 were focused on writing new material for the upcoming third album. Two releases followed in 2021: A split EP with heavy noise rock heroes KRPL from Graz, and the new full-length album, "Architect". The response to "Architect" was overwhelmingly positive, which included making it into the Doom Charts as #12 of June 2021. One of the highlights of a Covid hampered 2021 was co-headlining the first night of the Doom Over Vienna Festival.

Since 2022, TARLUNG worked on the new material for the new full-length album “Axis Mundi”. In 2023, they toured Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Czechia and Slovenia with their friends Mares of Thrace from Canada for two weeks. “Axis Mundi” was recorded in 2025, again at DeepDeepPressure Studios, and again featuring artwork by Alex Eckman-Lawn. It will be released January 30, 2026 by Argonauta Records, on Vinyl, CD, and on digital platforms.

On the surface, this album tells you the story of a witch enduring a path of suffering—ripped from her Hiding Place, betrayed (The Betrayal), and ultimately coming to terms with society’s condemnation (Forsaken). Heresy presents the viewpoint of the clergy: a hymn against all heretical forces, condemned during Inquisition (which borrows themes from Franz Liszt’s Spanish Rhapsody). The Cleansing brings her journey to an end—through the witch’s burning at the stake—while L'Inferno, a piano solo piece, captures her descent through the abyss, symbolizing her newfound peace.

On a deeper level, the album's meaning translates to modern times, particularly in tracks like Lighthearted, a piece about self-acceptance, and Psychosis. The figure of the witch can be replaced by any minority or individual who is marginalized and oppressed by society (the "clergy") for their differences. Musically, most of the songs are structured as a dialogue between the afflicted person (clean vocals) and society/the clergy (growling/screaming).

Ebony Archways Unveils "Misanthropia" - A Gothic Metal Masterpiece

Austria and Vienna are better known for The Sound Of Music, Mozart, Empress Sissi, and some sense of cozy beauty than grim music. But Unsane’s Chris Spencer barely survived an act of violence there, Henry Rollins wrote about being impressed by the borderline assertiveness of the local punks, their all-time favorites are the infamous Pungent Stench, and when the Viennese Actionism was up to mischief in the 1960s it drove worldwide astonishment. There’s legendary fields of unpleasant deviance and transgression in Vienna, and that’s where DESOLAT stirs around.

Established in 2018, DESOLAT’s grimy noise rock is rooted in hardcore/punk and infused with elements of sludge, crust, and death metal created by three veterans of the Viennese DIY anarcho punk scene, current and former members of Phal:Angst, Cyruss, Dim Prospects, La Ligne Maginot, Gfrast, Face The Owl, Radikalkur, E.M.S., and others. The band’s beginning days were cut short as COVID-19 lockdowns were put into place after playing only three shows. Nevertheless, they have since managed to release two EPs and one LP, with album number two now on the way.

This time more noise and less death metal, DESOLAT’s crushing Get Sick And Let Me Watch You Die deploys eight ripping tracks with a riotous, relentless momentum, while lyrical undercurrents of political unrest, societal disgust, and a live fast/die young callousness shred their way through. The record’s artwork and title were inspired by Texas’ Brutal Juice and their 1995 Alternative Tentacles-released masterpiece, I Love The Way They Scream When They Die. Get Sick And Let Me Watch You Die was recorded and mixed by Rainer Spänle at Cosmix Studios in Vienna, mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound (Opeth, Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath), with design elements by Lisl Matzer. The track “Great White Northern Shitlicker” features saxophone by Michael Masen. This is music for fans of Unsane, Neurosis, Entombed, Iron Monkey, Helmet, Discharge, Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth, and The Jesus Lizard. Get sick!

The first single from Get Sick And Let Me Watch You Die is the LP’s closing track, "(Gin) Tonic Youth." The band writes, “The song celebrates escapism, self-destruction, self-hatred, booze, drug use, and partying hard. The band are ‘90s kids; grunge-era, Generation X, heavily influenced by ‘80s punk and hardcore culture as well. The current Gen Z zeitgeist is quite a strong counterpoint to that, where the kids sometimes seem to be more uncool and uptight than their parents. Can you believe that booze and smoke are considered not cool among youngsters? People want to work on their work-life balance, go to bed early, do yoga, and go to the gym and shit. It goes hand in hand with the rise of security society where it seems people expect insurance for every problem instead of taking responsibility and action. Get loose! Gimme danger! Getting wasted and taking things not too seriously is still loads of fun!”

Get Sick And Let Me Watch You Die is DESOLAT’s first release on legendary US noise rock label Reptilian Records. The catalog of this label carries such great bands as Buzzov*en, Unsane side project Cutthroats 9, PG. 99, Lubricated Goat, Negative Approach, Easy Action (with Negative Approach’s John Brannon), Heroine Sheiks (Shannon Selberg of the Cows), The Upper Crust, Supersuckers, Electric Frankenstein, Oxes, the Chris Spencer (Unsane) and Steve Austin (Today Is The Day) collaboration project UXO, Thrall (Mike Hard from the God Bullies), The Dwarves, and many others. The label released the first Mastodon 7" and some early Pig Destroyer records and still show they are up to date when it comes to finding the gems in cutting edge rock music which was proven with the discovery of contemporary noise rock sensation Chat Pile, Nerver, and more. The label spawned its roots in the Baltimore-based record store of the same name in 1989 which closed its doors in recent years, while the mailorder/label are still going strong, now based in Texas. When it comes to the labels of the heydays of the genre in the late-1980 and ‘90s, the names Amphetamine Reptile, Touch & Go, Alternative Tentacles, and Man's Ruin are synonymous with the output of Reptilian Records.

Dive in into a journey written by life itself about depression and self hate. This is my first BM/ Blackgaze track with german lyrics and my old vocal technique.

The track lives with the contrast of softer and melodic parts as well as more metal type parts. Each part flows into another and it reaches the climax at the end.

As said the lyrics focuses around depression and the resulting thought of hopelessness while comparing to apparently ''perfect'' other people.

DEMONICERA RELEASE NEW SINGLE "CRAWLING THROUGH FLESH"

The band DEMONICERA was established in 2015, with a group of like-minded musicians coming together to create something new and exciting in the music world. The lead guitarist, Rene Gattermair, was a driving force behind the project, but he did not do it alone. From the beginning, the band was a collaborative effort, with each member contributing their unique skills and perspectives.

After forming their first instrumental crew, the band began searching for a vocalist who could bring their music to life. In 2016, they found Sam Fernandez, who was eager to join the project and help take it to the next level. With a full lineup in place, the band began writing and composing new songs, honing their sound and developing their style.

As is often the case with new bands, DEMONICERA faced its share of challenges along the way. Member changes and other setbacks threatened to derail the project, but the band persevered, determined to make their mark in the music world. In 2017, they welcomed Dave Ramella as their rhythm guitarist, and the group began working on their first demo songs for their debut EP.

The band's first live performance came in 2019, at a band competition where they made a strong showing. They followed that up with a gig as an opening act for Blood for Betrayal and No Zodiac, gaining valuable experience and exposure along the way. When the pandemic hit and live performances were no longer possible, the band turned their attention to recording their EP with the help of Mike Stöckl, who contributed to the bass tracks and managed the production and mixing aspects of the project.

Another stroke of good luck came in the form of Moritz Pik, a talented young drummer who joined the band and quickly became an essential part of their sound. With Pik on board, the band decided to re-record their EP, giving it a final polish before its release on August 13, 2021.

Despite the challenges and setbacks they faced, DEMONICERA has remained committed to their music and their vision. They continue to experiment with new ideas and sounds, eager to push the boundaries of what is possible in the rock and metal genres. Keep an eye out for this up-and-coming band, as they are sure to make waves in the music world in the years to come.
