In 2013, SPILLAGE was born from a vision of guitarist Tony Spillman. Initially conceived as a musical "project", SPILLAGE developed into a solid riff-rock band, with its roots firmly planted in hard-rock, blues, jazz and other musical influences inherent in its members. SPILLAGE band members have known each other for the most part, since childhood playing in various bands in the Chicago suburbs for nearly 40 years. Tony Spillman had been touring with Earthen Grave for 5 years when Earthen Grave disbanded in 2013. Tony decided to fully focus on bringing his vision to life, creating SPILLAGE with drummer Chris Martins in April 2013. Drawing from songs written by Tony in his younger days, SPILLAGE released their debut album "Spillage" featuring Lothar Keller ( The Skull, Sacred Dawn ) on vocals, Nick Bozidarevic on guitar, Willie Max ( Mudfish ) on bass and featured guest musician Bruce Franklin (Trouble) on guitar and backing vocals on several tracks on the 2015 release. Paul Rau played keyboards on the album but did not tour with the band at that time.

Lothar and Willie left SPILLAGE in 2015 to pursue other musical projects, and Billy McGuffey who was friends with several band members, joined on bass. SPILLAGE was scheduled to play the Maryland Doomfest in 2016, and through connected circles, Tony offered Elvin Rodriguez (a singer from the Philadelphia area) an opportunity to learn their songs and audition for the band. Elvin basically had his audition during the Doomfest, quickly learning their songs prior to taking the stage, and effortlessly performed to a thrilled audience! Needless to say, Elvin became the new singer for SPILLAGE and the band lineup remains unchanged. In January 2019, SPILLAGE released their 2nd album, "Blood of Angels", which was well-received worldwide.

As the world faced the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, SPILLAGE continued to forge ahead writing epic new songs for their 3rd album "Electric Exorcist" which showcased a more mature, developed, and collaborative songwriting process while continuing to develop their evolving SPILLAGE style. Despite their plans to tour in Europe being cancelled due to travel restrictions during the pandemic, SPILLAGE successfully released Electric Exorcist in late October 2021 and they hit the ground running, bringing their fun and energetic performances to fans locally at the end of 2021 and made appearances in several US festivals and shows during the summer of 2022. SPILLAGE recorded their performance during RIFF FEST in July 2022, and their new SPILLAGE Live! Digipak became available March 31, 2023 to appease fans until their 4th album is scheduled to be released on September 8, 2023 (CD/Digital formats, Vinyl in Nov 2023) in celebration of ten years of SPILLAGE!

Fresh after being signed to From The Vaults, epic doom metallers Altar Of Oblivion announce the release of the EP “Burning Memories”. The five tracks were recorded in 2016 just after the completion of the band’s third full-length.

Now, seven years later, the EP is finally ready to see the light of day. On it, the band conjures up classic timeless epic doom metal, whilst at the same time exploring untrodden ground under the gloomy auspices of this Nordic collective.

The origins of Altar of Oblivion can be traced back to 2003, when Martin

Sparvath (guitars/vocals) and Allan Larsen (drums) formed a duo called

Summoning Sickness. Around three years later, this doubtful project morphed into Altar of Oblivion and the entity went from playing simple black/speed/ heavy-metal to epic doom metal. To complete the lineup, two new members in the shape of former opera-singer Mik Mentor and bassist/caffeine-addict Christian Nørgaard were recruited, and the band has, so far, several demos, EPs, a live album, and three full-lengths under its belt. Now, a new chapter opens up for Altar Of Oblivion, while the band closes the door on a brilliant past before looking forward to a new album in 2024.

COMA HOLE are determined to make an impact with their debut EP both musically, drawing from a plethora of genres, and lyrically tackling face on darker aspects of life. The commanding drum and bass duo fuse doom, stoner and 80s/90s grunge styles into their compelling sound.

“We are beyond stoked to be releasing our debut EP Coma Hole in late Spring of 2022. We’ve diligently worked on carving our own sound over the past three years, attempting to traverse through upbeat grooves, aggressive high-energy riffage, and incorporate some droning, heavily hypnotic melodies. The album focuses on the existential struggle of self worth, identity, and mortality, which is all woven tightly together through natural archetypes in the lyrical wordplay as well as the cover art. As only two people, we are a small band trying to craft a big sound and aspire to blend our dynamic and style seamlessly with our lyrical themes. Steve and I hope this collection of recordings hits every mark on the musical spectrum and is as enjoyable to listen to for others as it was for us to create it." 

Drawing on an internal sense of self-sabotage and struggles to overcome it, “The Familiar” is an intense track and the inspiration for the cover art. Emerging through an eerie drone soundscape, COMA HOLE creates a sense of vastness. Soaring vocals, heavy fuzz and dramatic percussion break out into a powerful groove. Driving rhythms energise “Old Climb” emphasising a sense of desperation repeating the same things over again and expecting a different result. Dark, descending riffs aptly portrays the exploration of mortality and our timely return through decay into the natural order of life in “Wind and Bone”. Stunning vocal melodies and harmonies introduce a beautiful contradiction of tones alongside the heaviness. “Sinking” brings the release almost to a cyclical end returning to ideas of isolation involved in “The Familiar”, before diverging to deliver a positive tone and sense of achievement for overcoming these harsh struggles.

COMA HOLE has produced a beautifully raw and authentic debut. The EP immerses into the very depths of the darkest emotions human beings can endure but also celebrates the strength to keep going and passage to recovery.

VESSEL OF LIGHT TO RELEASE "LAST RIDE"

 

VESSEL OF LIGHT, the metal band formed by Nathan Opposition from Cleveland's Ancient VVisdom and riff master Dan Lorenzo (founding member of both the powerful thrash / power metal masters HADES and NON-FICTION, will release their new album "Last Ride" on October. Strongest Death SS album up to the date, at least talking about riffs and sound !. A short intro called "Paraphernalia" with some keyboard sounds and voices in english and spanish leads us to "Let the Sabbath Begin" a song destined to be a new  Death SS classic. The hard rock/heavy metal sound of this band is more evident here and the voice of Steve Sylvester takes new and very different directions (similar to Alice Cooper/Trent Reznor/Kevin DuBrow and many more). "Hi-Tech Jesus" is still more rock and roll with interesting double bass drumming (almost mechanical). I think that what makes this band really special are the hooks that their songs have, you listen to them one time and you are singing the choruses along the record. It is interesting to see how they can mix this more rocking songs with darker ones like "Lady of Babylon" (with Francesca Cassio´s female vocals) or "The Equinox of the Gods" (lot of keyboards here). Originality is what comes to my mind here, because nowadays there are only a few bands trying to do this style of music and trying to experiment with the songs at the same time. This is a classical band from Italy, whose mainman Steve Sylvester is a cult hero among metal fans of that country. Their record "In death of Steve Sylvester" is a classic. This two CD set is comprised of one disc of studio and remixes tracks and one disc recorded live on tour in the "Panic 2000 Tour". The Studio Disc has an interesting version (Pandemonium Remix) of "Let the Sabbath begin" very close to the original but with some more keyboard touches and faster than the original version didn´t had. For those who doesn´t know the band, they make an interesting mix of hard rock and heavy metal with strong eighties influences and a very modern sound (on keyboards and guitars). "Rim of Hell" is another track remixed here that has an interesting result.The live disc is more energetic but the sound is quite muddy. Thumbs up for the medley consisting in parts of six DeathSS classics and the "Equinox of the Gods/Ishtar" track (more than twelve minutes long) that show what this band can do in front of an audience.
