It seems that every step you have taken, every choice you have made has led you to this place. You have fled from it, appalled by what you can sense within, but no matter where you run you find it waiting…an impossibility that can never be found, yet never left behind. In resignation…or is that anticipation now, lurking in the blackest corners of your heart…you turn and walk towards the crimson door, beneath his heavy gaze.

Formed in 2012 in the UK’s West Midlands, Suffering are exponents of occult black metal, conjurers of fevered nightmares and invokers of darkness and madness. Their music draws upon the oppressive weight of soul crushing doom and the violent fervour of the blackest metal, bringing them together in an elixir of spirit staining, mind warping venom. Their first arcane offering was the 2018 album, 11, which was followed by two EPs – Temen-Ni-Gru (11:11) in 2022 and last year’s Symphonies: Diabolis. Now, newly signed to Apocalyptic Witchcraft – a label which band front man Sturmgeist Fornicator Insultus describes as one that “…supports, encourages and thrives on pushing the boundaries within extreme music…” – they are ready to unveil their second full length album, their most enthralling and disturbing work to date, Things Seen But Always Hidden.

Notes of dread, enticement and sorrow emerge from the storm and lead you away from all you know and all you understand as first track, ‘The House With The Red Door’ begins. And once your disorientation and dislocation is complete it erupts into furious violence and intimidating domination. Walls of haunting, unnerving blackness close around you, fear rises from the gloom like mist and shadowed shapes seem to move within the enveloping sound. Each track bleeds into the next as Things Seen But Always Hidden progresses, an unbroken journey into the unknown. ‘The Chamber Of Breathtaking Delights’ ensnares you in a conflict of desolation and ecstasy, a dying of conscience and birthing of consuming depravation. Dark, doomed riffs providing a funeral procession for the self you once knew. Songs rise like unholy entities from the album’s fever dream torrent…the aching ritual, ineffable darkness and oppressive weight of ‘Consorting With The Devil’, ‘Apocrypha Through The Keyhole’s ragged, bloody conjuration – dust in the mouth and rust on the blade, its inescapable atmosphere a lament and glorification entwined. At the last, ‘Behind The Green Door’ brings together intensity and power, insistent rhythms, dread pronouncements and desolate melodies. Monolithic marches and ritualistic immolation, agony and remaking before a final release into an eternal screaming nightmare…

Serving as a sister band to his other project, Fragmentary Solid Abyss, both projects explore similar musical and conceptual territories. However, Incineration in the Infinite has distinctive tempo shifts and streamlined song structures.

Those who have been following Shores Of Null from the very beginning know that their influences touch many genres, and those who loved “Quiescence” and “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” won’t be disappointed. The band considers “The Loss Of Beauty” to be the natural evolution of those records, while “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)” represents a slight detour from the main road. Those who have known them from “Beyond The Shores” might find this new offering a bit different, faster in tempo, but still very gloomy and melancholic.

“The Loss Of Beauty” is melancholic dark metal with a wide range of influences, from gothic metal to doom metal and melodic black/death metal, with frequent use of vocal harmonies and deep growls. It is recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Amorphis, and Enslaved.

"As we've received multiple requests to have and this album available digitally, we decided to remix and remaster it since the original mixes have been slightly muddy and over-compressed. However, we tried to retain the "production" feel of the band's unique sound for this period similar to the “Perfectly Calm” album.

This album was released in the year 2010 on our 10th year anniversary and contains some of the unreleased tracks from the early years of the band. Most of the songs were written chronologically after "Promo 2004” and were supposed to be out in 2006 on a split CD with the french black metal band ARS MORIENDI.

It was put on a strictly limited 150 hand numbered CDRs with pro printed artwork (scans are available). It was released by the small Ukrainian label GRIS RECORDS which hails from DNIPRO.

In 2021 I had a chance to visit this beautiful city and tried to contact the label owner Eugene, but unfortunately unsuccessfully."

French black-doom metal torchbearers MOURNING DAWN have announced the upcoming release of their sixth studio album, "The Foam of Despair", on January 12th 2024. The first video from the album, "Blue Pain", is out today. Watch it HERE.

The journey of our personal evolutions should be intrinsically integrated within, and carve out, our creativity.

MOURNING DAWN have always reflected the rich cycles of their lives within their albums – both the bad times and the very bad times. With “The Foam Of Despair” MOURNING DAWN undergo their own metamorphosis, emerging to reach a heightened level of perception, doomed spirituality and self-reflection.

This new album has all the benchmark qualities of MOURNING DAWN – the blackened doom pacing, the anguished vocals and the captivating songwriting – but with any great album there needs to be a creative alchemy, the Je ne sais quoi that brings everything together. “The Foam Of Despair” certainly has that, with this new material elevated beyond that heard before from this now established line-up.

Strong words considering the quality of albums created in the past two decades – just listening to “For The Fallen”, “Les Sacrifies”, “Dead End Euphoria” it’s clear to see the impact MOURNING DAWN have had upon this scene.

This album takes their blackened depressive doomed music to new levels – with the freedom to explore new territories and industrial overtones - and solidifies their position as one of the most important bands of the genre.

Most of all, “The Foam Of Despair” feels like a whole – there’s a new confidence and comfort in their own creativity – reflecting on their journey, really being at one with both their despair and their evolution.
