In the heart of Hamilton, Ontario LAST RETCH returns with Abject Cruelty, their most punishing and refined statement to date. Due out September 26, 2025 via Time to Kill Records, this eight-track slab of old-school death metal captures the raw energy of a band embracing its fury and focus with sharpened intent. It's a soundtrack to social rot: tight, unflinching, and seething with contempt.
Formed in 2021 in nearby St. Catharines, LAST RETCH burst onto the scene with a no-frills demo and soon followed it up with their debut full-length Sadism and Severed Heads in 2023 (CDN Records), a brutal introduction that married memorable riffcraft with pit-ready aggression. With the Ergotism EP (2024, CDN/Iron Fortress), they pushed their sound forward, showing flashes of melody, groove, and lyrical scope, before turning their sights fully on Abject Cruelty, their most cohesive and devastating effort yet.
Written against the backdrop of a city in collapse, Abject Cruelty channels the band’s surroundings (mental illness, addiction, poverty, political abandonment) into lean, groove-driven death metal that cuts like a rusted scalpel. Opener "Abject Cruelty" sets the tone with oppressive atmosphere and relentless tremolo, while "Beasley Meth Merchants", inspired by frontman Finlay Blakelock’s view from a Hamilton apartment, layers upbeat riffs with bleak commentary on drug abuse and systemic failure. "Dissecting the Leper" resurrects decade-old riffs into a live favorite built around a crushing breakdown, and "In the Polder They Reek", strikes a balance between stomp and melody, capped off by a rare, ripping solo.
Much of Abject Cruelty was crafted during and after the Ergotism sessions. "Resinous Drip of Decay", the first track written, plays like a BOLT THROWER homage filtered through modern existential dread. Its lyrics lash out at capitalist environmental collapse with almost prophetic rage. "Dissolved in Lye (Down to Rot)", is a whirlwind of chaos, penned and recorded in a flurry just before studio time. Written collaboratively in 15 minutes and featuring drummer Spencer Robson’s on-the-fly contributions, it’s a sonic freefall into what the band calls the “nightmare zone," a spastic, gory mess that gleefully collapses under its own weight. The lyrics are proudly dumb (zombies, mutilation, puke) but the music slaps hard enough to get away with it.
From there, "Oozing Pustules" takes things even lower: Drop A tuning, fat riffs, and a painfully real story about guitarist John Russell’s run-in with blood-hungry black flies while camping in Colombia. Finally, "Gatling Gun" closes the album with militant swagger, a track drenched in BOLT THROWER worship and big “hell yeah” energy. It’s an anti-fascist battle hymn built around warlike rhythms, written in 2024 but somehow more relevant in the burning political wasteland of 2025.
Throughout the album, LAST RETCH leans into their greatest strengths: short songs, big riffs, and a clear throughline of OSDM brutality fused with memorable hooks. Their influences, CARCASS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, BOLT THROWER, are never hidden, but always filtered through their own perspective. There’s no pretense, just power: straightforward songwriting, blistering performance, and the urgency of a band with something real to say. The songs are compact but dynamic, swapping between Drop B and Drop A tunings to carve out contrasting moods, one moment frantic and angular, the next slow and suffocating.
Produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by DAVIS MAXWELL at Schoolhouse Studios, Abject Cruelty sounds as mean as it plays. The cover art by BRAD MOORE adds an appropriately grotesque visual to the record’s themes of bodily and societal decay.
With a reputation for high-energy live shows and previous gigs alongside GUTALAX, UNDEATH, GATES TO HELL, KRUELTY, and more, LAST RETCH stands poised to carve their name into the modern death metal landscape.

Formed in 2012 in the UK’s West Midlands, Suffering are exponents of occult black metal, conjurers of fevered nightmares and invokers of darkness and madness. Their music draws upon the oppressive weight of soul crushing doom and the violent fervour of the blackest metal, bringing them together in an elixir of spirit staining, mind warping venom. Their first arcane offering was the 2018 album, 11, which was followed by two EPs – Temen-Ni-Gru (11:11) in 2022 and last year’s Symphonies: Diabolis. Now, newly signed to Apocalyptic Witchcraft – a label which band front man Sturmgeist Fornicator Insultus describes as one that “…supports, encourages and thrives on pushing the boundaries within extreme music…” – they are ready to unveil their second full length album, their most enthralling and disturbing work to date, Things Seen But Always Hidden.
Notes of dread, enticement and sorrow emerge from the storm and lead you away from all you know and all you understand as first track, ‘The House With The Red Door’ begins. And once your disorientation and dislocation is complete it erupts into furious violence and intimidating domination. The band’s most recent full length recording and tragically the last to feature the band’s late founding guitarist Michael Stewart, Dark Abstraction, was originally released in 2015 on CD by Polish label Hellthrasher Productions and LP by Swedish label Blood Harvest Records. A massive step forward in every way from the outfit’s well regarded if unpolished debut album, Dark Abstraction represented an energetic, riff-focused, and creative spin on the cavernous blackened death metal sound that was flooding the scene in copious amounts in the mid-2010’s. With eight varied and memorable tracks, a greatly improved production, and an ever-advancing sense of expression and craftsmanship from all instruments, this was the sound of a young band stepping out of their formative beginnings and emerging confidently as the established and respected outfit they are known as today.

The chorus blends double bass drumming with blast beats under a surprisingly melodic guitar riff, leaning toward a more modern or melodic death metal sound. That contrast — the violence in the drums and the melody in the guitars — mirrors the clash between rage and twisted self-reflection in the story. The outro is one of my favorite moments on the record: the antihero’s voice shifts to an almost theatrical monologue, justifying his actions through a storm of conflicting emotions.”

Wounded In Forest is a death metal band from Oulu, Finland, born from tragedy and reborn with a sharpened edge. Formed in 2023 following the death of the drummer from a previous project that had lasted over 15 years, the surviving members regrouped with a stripped-down, more direct musical vision. Every member took on a new role or instrument to forge something raw and uncompromising — an outlet for grief, rage, and reflection.
Musically rooted in old school death metal, Wounded in Forest blends the primal ferocity of early ’90s death metal with a conceptual storytelling approach. Their lyrics, written in English, revolve around one fictional narrative per release, each grounded in a real event or period from Finnish history. Themes of violence, war, trauma, and moral decay are explored with unflinching intensity.
The band’s upcoming debut EP, Antihuman Artist, is set during the Great Wrath in the early 1700s — a time of Russian occupation and widespread atrocities in Finland. The EP tells the disturbing story of an individual shaped by violence — born into abuse, sent to war, and ultimately transformed into a serial killer who expresses himself by creating grotesque art from the remains of his victims.
Wounded in Forest’s dual-vocalist setup deepens their storytelling Joni Moisanen delivers classic low-end death metal growls, while Miikka Pyykkönen unleashes high-pitched shrieks more akin to black metal. This contrast creates a dynamic narrative texture, with each voice representing different facets of the characters and their descent into darkness.
Musically, the band combines relentless blast beats, simple but sinister riffing, and shifting rhythmic patterns that keep listeners on edge. Guitarists Joni Moisanen and Joonas Kokkoniemi mix chugging riffs, open-picked chords, and black metal-style tremolo passages with the occasional technical flourish. Drummer Jussi Tuomisto drives the chaos with aggressive blasts and constantly evolving grooves that mirror the tension in each story.
For fans of old school Death Metal with a conceptual twist, Wounded In Forest offers stories carved from something raw and real. These are stories steeped in blood, rooted in Finnish soil, and delivered straight from the heart of the forest.

Born in the shadows of a slanted farmhouse outside Vancouver, SYRINX is a heavy metal/progressive rock collective led by guitarist, producer, Graham McGee. Known for their theatrical flair and cerebral songwriting, the band delivers a fresh and unique blend of oldschool heavymetal and classic prog wizardry — echoing the likes of Rush, Genesis, Fates Warning, Queensrÿche, and Judas Priest.
SYRINX began over a decade ago when McGee met powerhouse vocalist Jean-Pierre Abboud (JP) during a wild 30-date Canadian tour with their former band Funeral Circle. When that group folded, the two set their sights on a more expansive sonic path — moving away from gothic and occult themes into deeper, more musically daring territory. From this shift, SYRINX emerged. After their first two releases in 2019 and 2020, SYRINX went dormant as McGee battled a severe case of Lyme disease, stepping away from music entirely. But the silence didn't last. Returning with renewed fire, McGee unexpectedly linked up with drummer Seth Lyon—whose precision, creativity, and shared love of odd time signatures (and black coffee... and Rush) sparked an instant chemistry. In the foothills of the Pacific West Coast mountains, SYRINX breathed again.
Their upcoming sophomore LP Time Out of Place was nearly derailed just weeks before recording when their bassist unexpectedly left the band. But rather than crumble, the band saw it as an opportunity. Enter Bobby Shock — a multi-instrumentalist from New Jersey who slid effortlessly into the SYRINX groove and smashed it out of the park on incredibly short notice. A fully aligned creative energy, Bobby is SYRINX in every way — and his presence elevated the album to a whole new level.
The band’s lineup now includes Graham McGee (guitar/synths), JP (vocals), Seth Lyon (drums), and Bobby Shock (bass/synth), with supporting vocals from Lady Chanelle, McGee’s wife a gifted vocalist whose harmonies add dimension and grace to the band's already diverse sound. McGee and Shock also both wield Moog Taurus pedals and synths live, giving the band a crushing live presence rarely matched on modern stages!
Despite being spread across Vancouver, Denver, and New Jersey, the members work with focused intensity whenever they’re physically together.

Overview: OMICIDIO are the first incarnation of what would later become NIHILI LOCUS. It's 1989 and four very young musicians approach Metal and do it in an instinctive and violent way at the same time with a demo-tape of six songs that presents a very old-school Death Thrash Metal but that is already characterized by the dark magic that will be the trademark of the sound of NIHILI LOCUS.
Together with the new album "Semper", we will release the reissue of 1991 OMICIDIO demo-tape "Premature Exequie" on LP format.
The release has been completely re-mastered by Giuseppe "Buzz" Nicolò at Lost Soul Studio and feature a great cover created by the great Norwegian photographer Kjetil Karlsen. "Premature Exequie" is the definitive testimony of a primitive and obscure sound that has been able to create from these roots, the absolutely unique and uncompromising sound of NIHILI LOCUS.

NIHILI LOCUS, a name Doom and Black Metal fans are no strangers to.
They came from Turin area and were born from the band OMICIDIO, formed in 1989, with Massimo Currò (bs), Mauro Veronese (gt), Bruno Blasi (v) and Roberto Ripollino (dr). After the recordings of the demo "Premature Exequie" in 1991, the band change their name in NIHILI LOCUS and in 1992 Valeria De Benedictis (gt) joined the group who released quite soon the 7"EP "Sub Hyerosolima..." distributed by Obscure Plasma. In 1994 they released the concept tape "...Advesperascit..." which led them to have their first official contract with Boundless Recs, for the release of the MCD "...Ad Nihilum Recidunt Omnia" in 1996.
In the years to come the group's activity was very unstable, until 2009 when they found themselves in an essential formation with the original members Massimo Currò (bs), Mauro Veronese (gt), and Roberto Ripollino (dr). With this line-up, it was recorded "Mors" only available for free download online. In the following years, Terror From Hell released a collection of all the recordings up to 1996 on CD.
The last years was used by the band to the conception, creation and recordings of the new album "Semper", the release that will finally allow the band to reap the fruits of a career always characterized by a melancholic pathos embodied in a dark sonorous extremism.
"Semper", along with the reissue "Nihil Morte Certium" on vinyl, the reissue of OMICIDIO demo "Premature Exequie" on vinyl and the celebratory box "Ineffabilis Memoriae Regurgitatio", are scheduled for September 2025, all on My Kingdom Music

Born Divided is a melodic death metal band hailing from Québec, Canada. Composed of five seasoned musicians—including three former members of Blinded by Faith (Tommy Demers on bass, Michaël Beaudoinand Fred Bédard on guitars), along with Lucas Biron on drums and Maxim Levesque on vocals—the band delivers a powerful and richly orchestrated sound. Their debut album, Impending Doom, released in October 2022, showcased a dynamic range of seven tracks marked by precision and intensity. Following their 2022 video Human Masquerade, Born Divided returns in October 2025 with Chronicle of a Shipwreck, a new album mixed and mastered by Chris Donaldson of Cryptopsy, diving deeper into their signature style. The release is accompanied by the haunting new video Everything Comes to an End.

Formed in 2023 in Bogotá, Colombia, Eunoe is a black metal band exploring philosophy, psychology, and history through dark, atmospheric soundscapes. Their music shifts between chaos and melody, guided by anguished vocals. The lineup features Stvn (vocals, rhythm guitar), S.O.N. (lead guitar, backing vocals), R.A.G. (bass, backing vocals), and N.B. (drums). Inspired by Heidegger and Nietzsche, Eunoe’s performances evoke Dante’s Divine Comedy, challenging beliefs, traditions, and modern conformity through raw intensity and liberation.
