GOBLIN REBIRTH SIGNS WITH RELAPSE RECORDS

Legendary band Goblin Rebirth (formerly known as Goblin), whose music was featured in many Dario Argento films, have signed with Relapse Records. Here is the label´s press statement: "Relapse Records is extremely proud to announce the signing of Italian progressive instrumentalists GOBLIN REBIRTH. A new incarnation, inspired by the legendary Goblin, the 1970's horror-synth / film score icons responsible for such soundtracks as Suspiria, Zombi and Tenebre, GOBLIN REBIRTH came together after a short-lived reformation of the original group in 2009. The new group contains the famed rhythm section of the original Goblin (drummer Agostino Marangolo and bassist Fabio Pignatelli, who both played on the classic soundtracks to Zombi/Dawn of the Dead, Suspria, Profondo Rosso/Deep Red and more), with the addition of Aidan Zammit and Danilo Cherni on keyboards and Giacomo Anselmi on guitar.

The band formed in 2010 and started with a live repertoire of Goblin hits and some unusual songs from more obscure Goblin soundtracks. The band members soon began creating new material and decided to look to the future, creating songs that grew out of an organic process, through a combination of individual compositions and jam sessions. Now the first new recordings from GOBLIN REBIRTH will see the light of day via Relapse in the Spring of 2015. The group's debut album was mixed and produced by Fabio Pignatelli, and recorded in Rome at Greta’s Sound, Zamusic Studios and Cherni Studio. The drums were recorded in Trani by Ciccio "Frums" Dettole at Scuola Sul Mare. The album was mastered by Bob Fix at BobFixMastering.

The group commented on the new material: "It was clear to us from the start that we wanted to do an album that in some way evolved from the original Goblin sound but also took a new direction reflecting the personalities of all the band members. The pieces all fell together to make up a story that loosely describes the destruction and rebirth of a strange creature. This is itself a loose metaphor referring to the band history."

ANATHEMA: NEW ALBUM DETAILS

The band Anathema will release their album "Distant Satellites" on June 10th. The album was recorded at Cederberg Studios in Oslo with producer Christer-André Cederberg. "Distant Satellites" will be released through Kscope Records.
The band says: “Distant Satellites is the culmination of everything Anathema been working up to so far in our musical path. It contains almost every conceivable element of the heartbeat of Anathema music that it is possible to have. There is beauty, intensity, drama, quietude, and extra musical dimensions that the band has previously only hinted at. All built on the song writing chemistry of Daniel, John and Vincent - and the haunting voice of Lee Douglas.
Produced and mixed once again by our very own Christer-André Cederberg (Weather Systems, Universal) and with some songs also mixed by the unassailable Steven Wilson, it's a special and unique release for the band. Anathema hopes the fans get as much joy from listening to and feeling the music as we did in creating it.”

"Distant Satellites" tracklist is:

'The Lost Song Part 1'
'The Lost Song Part 2'
'Dusk (Dark Is Descending)'
'Ariel'
'The Lost Song Part 3'
'Anathema'
'You'Re Not Alone'
'Firelight'
'Distant Satellites'
'Take Shelter'

SHIP OF FOOLS - LET´S GET THIS MOTHER OUTTA HERE (Peaceville Recs., 2002)

Produced By: Peaceville Recs.

Tracks: 1- Diesel Spaceship, 2- L=SD2 , 3- Where is Here, 4- First Light, 5- In the Wake Of, 6- From Time, 7- Passsage by Night, 8- Western Lands, 9- Guidance is Internal, 10- Video CDRom track: L=SD2

Here we have tracks coming from the two albums that this really interesting band released for Peaceville´s sister label Dreamtime Recs in the early nineties. For those who doesn´t know the band it features Les Smith on keyboards who is now playing on Anathema and used to play in Cradle of Filth. The music here is instrumental an full of interesting arrangements, most of them done by the keyboards. Here you can appreciate how this guys were exploring sonic boundaries while developing each of their compositions. This can be trully heard on this CD that feature amazing moemnts from this glorious band. The songs have been mixed by Les Smith to give a more perfect sound and show the world Ship of Fools music in all its magnitude and with better sound.

REVIEW: RUSH - VAPOR TRAILS

RUSH - VAPOR TRAILS (Atlantic Records, 2002 )

Produced By: Rush and Paul Northfield

Tracks: 1- One Little Victory, 2- Ceiling Unlimited, 3- Ghost Rider, 4- Peaceable Kingdom, 5- The Stars Look Down, 6- How It Is, 7- Vapor Trail, 8- Secret Touch, 9- Earthshine, 10- Sweet Miracle, 11- Nocturne, 12- Freeze (Part IV of "Fear"), 13- Out of The Cradle

Cover Art by Hugh Syme

Recorded at Reaction Studios

Since I am a fan of Rush´s music I could not let this album pass without reviewing it. This album starts with "One Little Victory" that is one of the most energetic tracks by the band since some years ago. As always here we have the combination of distorted and clean guitars used by Alex Lifeson, and here we have Gedy Lee´s bass lines and unique vocals and also we have Neil Peart´s unique drumming style (this guy is extremely influential for progressive bands like Dream Theater or Fates Warning). The songs are more direct than in many of the later albums by the band and that would maybe be liked by fans of the "2112" or "Fly By Night" era of the band (even if Geddy Lee is using now a different vocal tonality). Rush continues to make good albums.

Favorite tracks: "Ceiling Unlimited", "One Little Victory" and "How It Is"

REVIEW: THINE - IN THERAPY

THINE - IN THERAPY (Peaceville Records, 2002)

Produced by Thine

Tracks: 1- Best Kept Secret, 2- Feel, 3- In Therapy, 4- Homewrecker Extraordinaire, 5- Never Learn, 6- Contact Point, 7- In Red Rooms, 8- Last better Day, 9- Deny Everything, 10- The Bar, 11- Running, 12- Bleaker Audio

Here we have this ethereal yet experimental release. The sound here has (in my opinion) shades of bands liek Anathema, Pink Floyd and some Katatonia. The melancholic vocals are essential for Thine´s sound nad also the harmonization that backing vocals do with te main ones (as for example in bands like Alice in Chains this harmonizations are fundamental). There are distorted guitars but they are used to make arrangements and melancholic melodies that add a lot to the feeling of the songs. Feelings like sadness, despair, sorrow and sensations like beauty, depression and many more are present on this CD. The songs have a lot of hooks for the listener in the choruses and despite the depressive kind of melodies you will find yourself singing the choruses along with the recording. A good option for lovers of the bands that I mentioned above.

Favorite tracks: "Best Kept Secret", "In therapy" and "In red Rooms"
