Concept album about Transylvania. Nothing more, nothing less.

The lyrics however does not follow a certain storyline even though the vocals sometimes seem a bit narrative. This is intentional. I didn't want to think about verses, bridges or structure.

I wanted this record to just be an inspirational flow. I see myself continue on that path in my songwriting as well. No boundries, just pure inspiration in it's finest form. Untamed fire. Through the strength of individuality."

Notorious Swedish black metal collective WATAIN is proud to unleash "The Howling" - the first single from their upcoming new studio album, "The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain," which will be released on April 29th, 2022. 

"The Howling" sets the tone for what will be offered on the band's 7th full-length, an unsettling blackened voyage in 10 chapters that is as inexorably vicious as it is enticing.

Watain crawled out of Satan’s cunt in 1998, and has since then ascended and grown into one of the world’s most well known and notorious Black Metal bands. Their legacy is often referred to with fear, love, confusion or awe, but seldom with indifference.

Their infamous live shows have become a worldwide phenomenon; inimitable ceremonies of wild Black Metal fanatism where the sacred and solemn collides with raw unadulterated force. With their greatly anticipated seventh studio album, Watain continues to arouse and electrify their audience with an unmistakable, adventurous brand of Black Metal Magic, processed and distilled over the course of a 25-year long history.

Recorded live by long time collaborator Tore Stjerna in his infamous Necromorbus studio, now re-located to an old church on the Swedish countryside, ”The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain” takes the listener one huge step closer to the innermost heart of a band that despite always being surrounded by rumors and controversy has always strived for a most sincere and genuine form of expression.

With 10 songs written by the founding trinity of Watain (E. Danielsson, H. Jonsson and P. Forsberg), it is also the first Watain album to be recorded live with a full line up completed by A. Lillo, H. Eriksson and E. Forcas.

The material is further enriched by noble contributions from Farida Lemouchi (ex The Devil’s Blood, now in Molassess) and Gottfrid Åhman (ex In Solitude, now in PÅGÅ).

RIMFROST RELEASE NEW SINGLE "KILLER INSTINCT"

Swedish black metal act Rimfrost recently reunited after their split in 2019. The trio has worked hard during the brightest months of 2021 to rev up the engine and dismount the breaks, and is now ready to go full throttle with two new tracks that depict the story of a killer. “Killer Instinct,” the first of those singles (but the final one from the tale), got its premiere via MetalSucks. 

“Killer Instinct” will be available on all digital/streaming platforms on October 31st. A music video for the track will be revealed soon.

“When we started to write music for the comeback, we really didn’t know what we wanted to write about, but we quickly felt that we wanted and that we should continue on the horror path from ‘Expedition: Darkness’ since we all are huge horror fans, especially, we all share some extra love for 70´s-80´s slasher/zombie horror.

“After some discussions back and forth, we decided to create our own storyline that runs over 2 singles with our own made-up killer with inspiration from Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees, Leatherface, and all those classic killers. The story starts with ‘The rise of Evil’ (to be released later) and ends with ‘Killer Instinct.’ It all ended up as ‘The rise of Evil: Killer Instinct,’ and we are very happy and proud of how it all turned out!”

ÅSKOG PREMIERS NEW ALBUM "VARþNAþER"

Swedish black metal unit Åskog has premiered their debut album via Toilet ov Hell, with Black Metal Promotion unveiling it on YouTube. Their debut full-length, Varþnaþer, will be out on 12th May 2021 via Grind to Death Records (CD) and Leviaphonic Records (digital). A vinyl and cassette release by Corrupted Flesh Records should land on 25th June.

Åskog comments on the track: “Varþnaþer is an ode to the duality of nature—good and evil. The music follows this dichotomy with heavy, chaotic parts or slower, melodic—sometimes ambient—moments. there are twists and turns, which keeps the listener on their toes, never sure what to expect next."

Åskog took form during the early summer of 2020 by Adam and Lars after disbanding their previous band, Murdryck.

A demo, titled Varg, was released in October 2020 — quickly selling out its initial limited edition cassette run. The band’s blend of heavy, doom, and death metal under a black metal layer soon attracted listeners, metal media outlets, and even record labels. Amidst interest from several other record labels, the Vänersborg duo sealed the deal with Sweden’s Grind to Death Records for a CD release and Germany’s Corrupted Flesh Records for vinyl and cassettes. This spurred the drive to complete the album, Varþnaþer, by the end of December 2020, with the band keen to ride the sudden wave of interest with the strongest material they have ever written. However, the demo still garners interest and has since been reissued on CD and will be reissued again on cassette later in the year.

The songwriting on the debut album, Varþnaþer, furthers the musical ideas presented on the demo, adding the group's own fingerprint and identity on the black metal-influenced sound. The 8 songs were carefully crafted to affect the listener's mood — taking them through a journey from the blistering fast down to a slower, doomy pace, with the more mid-tempo sections allowing room to explore Lars' vocal styles. The variation in the music is aided by the band’s disciplined uniformity in style, which allows the different elements to blend in seamlessly. The lyrics generally deal with the dichotomy between good and evil in the context of the natural environment. While almost all the lyrics deal with death in some way, Åskog delivers these themes in a more unusual manner, going beyond the notions of good/evil and focusing on human interpretation.

Consumption is a relatively new Swedish duo producing crushing Carcass-like Grind/Death. This project is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Håkan Stuvemark, famous for his works with a huge bunch of Extreme Metal bands (and the most notable from that list is Wombbath). And he invited the experienced drummer Jon Skäre to complete his band to a new level. The grinding death metal with eerie melodies sound like Carcass in their 90’s prime yet they also have a distinct own touch. The overall sound of the album is raw and unpolished just like it should be. Best of all is that this does not sound like they wanted to artificially give it this touch. It has an all natural feel to it which makes it even more intense and interesting. The array of vocal techniques and the way passages differ in speed and intensity give “ Recursive Definitions of Suppuration” just that little bit extra.

Ereb Altor presents “Eldens Boning”, a classic vinyl only 12” Mini-LP featuring 4 four new Scandanavian Metal songs full of pagan epicness!

Ereb Altor always promises one thing with each release: Epic, Folk-blended Metal inspired by the Norse legends. “Eldens Boning” keeps any fan satisfied with a true and sincere Pagan theme in its lyrics and art. Each song delivers in full and features some of the best work from the band yet.

The opening track “The Twilight Ship” builds the atmosphere before exploding into a classic Ereb Altor, a True Heavy Pagan Metal song focused on epicness. Sharp Heavy Metal riffs, Nordic melodies, catchy choruses and pounding drums, an enrichement to the bands future live-set. Followed up by “Fenrisulven” which sees Ereb Altor tread new paths, that of an all acoustic song, that really leaves an appetite for more of this. Very atmospheric, calm as a Swedish lake in the morning it features great violin parts, skaldic in feel, a great addition to the Metal songs! The title track is the third song on this EP and it is classic Ereb Altor, blending in their Blackened roots, full speed ahead with the grim rasping vocals taking the lead. Never losing the focus on epicness, and graced with killer guitar solo-work. A raging song for sure. Closing song “Sacrifice 2.0” might refer to the “Sacrifice” song on the “Fire Meets Ice” album, but this new song is a much swifter and tighter, that is once more the mix of epicness and Ereb Altor’s blacker roots.

Ereb Altor’s songwriting style is their biggest strength, they write killer songs, memorable songs. When they break away and get into some real shredding they even add to the incredible strong atmosphere. Just like on their last album “Järtecken” from 2019 Ereb Altor incorporates keyboards to even build up their strengths some more. Ereb Altor succeeds in blending Viking/Pagan themed Epic Metal with the more dark roots of Swedish Black Metal, resulting in an EP (20 minutes playing time) that is classic Ereb Altor.

DEAD SUN is one of the first bands created by Swedish mastermind Rogga Johansson (PAGANIZER, PUTREVORE, REVOLTING, THE GROTESQUERY, RIBSPREADER and dozens more...) back in the year '96, having released 4 demos until 2005, but it wasn't until 2013 that he released his first album, and since then he has released 5 albums and one EP. "Night Terrors" is perhaps his finest work to date, where he combines a Swedish Death'n'Roll that at times reminds ENTOMBED of their "Wolverine Blues" with incredibly catchy melodies and riffs in the vein of EDGE OF SANITY, FURBOWL, ILLDISPOSED...

"Night Terrors" has been mixed and mastered by Håkan Stuvemark (WOMBBATH), and it contains some guitar solos made by himself on this album. The cover art has been done by Roberto Toderico.

Biography

The band started in 2005 under the name "Teach Children to Worship Satan". One song (Cyclops) remains from this early period, written by then guitarist Irem, re-arranged and eventually recorded years later. Fredrik Alerud is to be the growler for some years to come and long time riff-forger Börna took over after the departure of Irem around 2007. With the introduction of new bass-player Piotr in 2010, the band was starting to take the form we recognise today, refining their sound and changing the name to "Fist Fight". Writing riffs and drinking beers into 2014 they're hearing some interesting bass playing further down the corridor. The young bassist Hampus was persuaded to pick up the lead-guitar and join, making Fist Fight a five-piece. The first demo recording was produced this same year. Playing some festival-shows here and there, the main focus is put on writing. During the next 3 years the band tries several different growlers, with the eyes on a full-length album. Finally settling with the voice of Joel Nylén and changing the name to Odeum Deus, debut album "Fist Fight" is recorded in a matter of days and released independently in 2018. The first album is released while the band is already in the studio again, now with legendary producer Tomas Skogsberg in hunt of the metal sound. It is to be released as "Knife Fight" in 2019. The collaboration works out great with Skogsberg and they decide to do it all again with another album, improving what they've done on the previous album with the writing and production. Their earlier releases caught the interest of record label WormHoleDeath and this new third album is signed with them to be released worldwide in 2021.

PAGANDOM SET RELEASE DATE FOR "ASHES"

Cult Gothenburg’s thrashers PAGANDOM have just revealed the release date of their third album, “Ashes”. It’s going to hit streaming and download services on January 29th. The physical release is planned for late February.

Last December they released the official video for “Don’t” off their upcoming album “Ashes”. “Don’t” can be found on all popular streaming platforms.

PAGANDOM released demos (1989-92) that had a huge impact on the Gothenburg metal scene. Future members of internationally aclaimed death metal bands used to be devoted fans of PAGANDOM. Disbanded 1996. Reunited for Gothenburg Sound Festival 2014.

Signed with Gain/Sony 2016 and released “Hurt as a Shadow”. Reunion line-up featured Anders Björler of At The Gates, who has been their fan since he was a kid.

PAGANDOM recorded “Ashes” in 2020 at Studio Fredman by Fredrik Nordström, and at Hell´s Island by Martin Carlsson. Mixed by Martin Carlsson.

CARNAL AGONY RELEASE NEW SINGLE "THE WITCHING HOUR"

If Judas Priest and hit songwriter Desmond Child had a love-child, it would undoubtedly be a hideous creature with sex appeal. Much like Carnal Agony. Hailing from northern Sweden, the band is on a mission to pick up the torches left behind by their musical heroes. Their incendiary blend of metal energy and pop melody, spiced up with classical horror themed lyrics, is now ready to be unleashed upon the world.

Building on and further expanding the musical direction of debut album ‘Preludes & Nocturnes’, the second album ‘Back from the Grave’ is already a success with critics and audiences alike. With well over 300 000 Spotify-streams in just a few months the first two singles from the album, ‘Werewolf of Steel’ and ‘Love Will Tear You Apart’, have proven Carnal Agony's ability to write memorable melodies.

In order to let even more people discover the treasures within "Back from the Grave", the band is now releasing one of their favorite tracks as a follow-up single.  "The Witching Hour" is the perfect example of the  foundation that the band builds their music upon and showcases  the bands Unholy Trinity of headbanging rhythms, larger-than-life choruses and irresistible scary stories to tell in the dark.

With music and lyrics by Mathias Wallin, the track was recorded at Studio Seven Sweden in Örebro by Ronny Milianowicz. “‘The Witching Hour’ is unusual for us with it’s clear influences from bands like Whitesnake, Heart or Survivor. They’re a part of my musical DNA as well and it was fun to explore that and try to infuse it with metal”, says Mathias. “And when I got the chorus melody in my head I knew I had something special going on.” Guitarist Pär-Olof Persson agrees: “The moment I heard the song for the first time I decided that we had to record a new album. I can’t wait to play this song live!” Vocalist David Johagen chose a different approach to his vocal delivery on the track. “The lyrics called for a more storytelling feeling than the other tracks. I wanted to convey the curiosity, horror and ultimately power in the character's development and I think that you can hear it in my voice. Hopefully you’ll become afraid, disgusted and intrigued.” The Witching Hour is upon us!
