"If someone had told me 15 years ago that the main themes of my most sincere album will be nostalgia and homesickness, I wouldn’t take this seriously – but fate, it seems, has a very peculiar sense of humor. The Diary was born as an attempt to rethink the loss of literally everything and to find at least some solid ground under my feet. Usually, when we evaluate the artist’s professionalism and craftsmanship, we use his ability to express (or imitate – depends on how you look at it) emotions as a main criterion – I, in case of The Diary, tried to make the opposite and to sound as detached and contemplative as possible – and still, when I listen to this album, I cannot get rid of the feeling that I let out too much. 

Letters From The Past is clearly one of the centerpieces of the album and it is the only song that contains a glimmer of hope in it. It was also a serious challenge to our video production team (Olga Kann and Alex Rabets) to visualize its essence (editing of existing memories after accumulation of new data), so it is a very complex and multilayered work – not many will get it (and it is completely fine) but those who will, will definitely enjoy it and return to it more than once.

After the completion and release of The Diary I don’t really feel like writing new songs (as I said – I’ve already let out too much), but I feel a strong urge to perform these tracks live, so, despite the obvious difficulty of our situation, we have big plans of returning to the stage. HANGING GARDEN formed in 2004, starting out as a heavy, doom-oriented project. Roughly two decades, seven albums and a couple of line-up shuffles later, the band shifted to a more melodic, contemporary sound, surrounded by a veil of melancholy.

The compositions are dark, atmospheric & emotional, and concomitantly lean towards open-minded and playful musicality. While entrenched in metal's doom, gothic and melodeath branches, HANGING GARDEN displays a versatile, many-layered style of playing, packs female & male vocals, and draws influence & inspiration from music and art, far and wide.

The new album - "The Garden" - dives deep into atmospheres both "tender and harsh, devilish and serene" and "embarks upon a journey to mankind's spiritual roots, contemplating the fragility of our technological society" - as poetically described by the band. "There is a kind of energy in the songs that there wasn’t before," introspects Toni Hatakka of HANGING GARDEN. "A feel of hope to contrast our old friend the despair, a strong notion of action against the familiar melancholy, or maybe a light amidst the comfortable gloom."

"The Garden", the follow-up to "Skeleton Lake" (2021), was produced by Jussi Hämäläinen (vocals, guitars) and Jarno Hänninen. The album was mixed and mastered by the latter at D-studio (Beherit, Shape of Despair). Cover artwork and new band photos are by Finnish artist Kalle Pyyhtinen. "The Garden" marks the return of new-old drummer Antti Ruokola, last seen in HANGING GARDEN seven years ago.

HANGING GARDEN may appeal to fans of Swallow the Sun, Ghost Brigade, October Tide, Katatonia and Type 0 Negative.

This wonderful band comes directly from Slovakia and they have composed nine tracks of incredible beauty while at the same time they deliver savage riffs and black metal vocals. One of the main elements here are the keyboards that create the artmospheres that are essential to Thalarion´s music and orchestrates each of the compositions while contrasting with the fast guitars and the heavy drumming. It is really interesting the contrast between the melodies and the devastating guitars, between Juraj brutal vocals and Nela´s clean female vocals (she is great through all the recording). There are many changes on the songs and the band uses a lot of clean guitars combined with keyboards to deliver new atmospheres. One thing to remark is the excellent sopund that this release has, really making all the music shine with its perfection. A must

"Septem Aquae", a string quartet intro opens this five song MCD before In Peccatum enters in all their magnitude to show their powerful and climatic music. The music here is dark metal with a lot of keyboards, really great guitars which play interesting and melancholic melodies (also they have killer solos). Also here are Neves vocals that fit the melancholic and dark music of the band perfectly. This is a perfect showcase of how a band can be heavy and dark and at the same time melodic and melancholic. The keyboards passages are extremely obscure and atmospheric (check 1:20 of "Watery Portrait" to see what I am talking about). So, here is what I would say to anyone that reads this review: Let darkness embrace you with In Peccatum´s music.

The Wounded...everything in my mind told me that this was going to be a death metal album. But I was mistaken. In fact the music of this band reminds me a lot to Paradise Lost or the first Anathema because of the song structures...but they have a big difference, the vocalist. He things in a more medium ranged type of voice and the band has harmonized vocals in some parts. The guitars are really heavy (I would have liked to have them mixed a little bit higher) and the drummer uses a lot the crash cymbal an open hi-hat to give a lot of support to the guitars and bass. Some vocal parts which are harmonized me sounded to me really seventies progressive rock. Cool and strange at the same time!!! They have hooks in most of the songs and I wouldn´t be surprised if this band gets a hit single in the underground scene. !!! Favorite tracks: The whole CD....a great album!! I must congratulate The End Records because of this excellent release!!! Opening with an amazing orchestral part with cello and eastern sounding vocals (in fact this made me remind of the soundtrack of a movie called "Before The Rain" which is a Macedonia/UK coproduction). Then suddenly all explodes and the orchestration is joined by an extremely heavy band on "Embrace"!! This is the perfect combination between ethereal music and extreme heaviness (this is why I think that being heavy doesn´t mean necesarilly to be at full speed all the time). Excellent guitarist...she is Samantha Escarbe and plays very interesting riffs with a very loud sound, she creates melodies and also gives space for the keyboards and the drums to breath. A beautiful keyboards introduction opens this powerful gothic/doom metal album. Marko Hautamäki is the composer and author of all the music and lyrics. And he also plays all the instruments. There are many good ideas in all the songs. Spectacular in the case "Embraced by Dawn". Marko uses heavy guitars all over the place and that gives and extra push and power to all the tracks contained on this dark album also there are good orchestrations through all the tracks. There are good vocals here which are sometimes more guttural and sometimes melodic using middle and low range. There is a certain feeling like it had the first Godsend album...and I relly like that !
