TANTRUM RELEASE NEW SINGLE: "THE DARKEST OF TIMES / TORNADO OF SOULS"

PRESS RELEASE:

SCOTLAND’S FINEST HEAVY METAL, TANTRUM, RELEASE “THE DARKEST OF TIME / TORNADO OF SOULS” SINGLE

The double A-sided single brings a new line-up, the strongest in their career, with a new original song “The Darkest Of Time” and a stellar version of Megadeth’s classic.

PROMO VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2n7Mw1GhGw

Tantrum is a Glasgow-based old-school metal band with a modern slant, combining classic guitar-driven riffs and driving rhythms with strong lyrical themes and solid vocal harmonies.

Formed by drummer Billy Angus in 2014, Tantrum released the Rough Cuts EP in 2016, with the debut album Melt it Down following in 2018. Immediately prior to COVID hitting the UK, Tantrum parted company with vocalist Steven Swanson, using the lockdown period to search for a replacement.

After a 24-year absence from the music scene, current vocalist Mark Reid joined the ranks in September, 2021. During the recording of what was slated to be the second album, guitarist Steve Waddell left to pursue a solo career and it was decided that the four completed tracks would be released an EP, entitled Worlds End.

Some thirty-eight days and myriad applicants later, Tantrum welcomed Baz Fitzsimmons to the ranks alongside long-standing guitarist Stoo Condie. Known for his work with Syth, Baz brought his own style of playing while still maintaining the tight, twin-guitar cannonade that Tantrum have become known for.

After the departure of bassist Ritchie Davison, the band asked temporary bassist Micah Snow—who Baz had played with in Farseer—to join the band on a full-time basis, and work soon began on the writing and recording of the second album.

With the recording of the album now complete, but still prior to its release, both Billy and Stoo decided that it was time for them to move on, with Billy retiring from playing and Stoo taking a well-earned sabbatical.

The band’s second album, Another Life, was released on July 28th 2023 with the debut single, “Sands of Time” receiving excellent reviews and boasting more than 25,000 Spotify streams as of August 23rd.

Rather than begin the search for a guitarist to replace Stoo, it was clear that the best candidate for the position was already in the band—Micah. A virtuoso guitarist at heart who had only taken up the mantle of bassist out of necessity, Micah didn’t take much persuading and so the hunt was now on for a drummer and bassist to complete the lineup for the next evolution of Tantrum.

In order to fill their bass-player-sized hole made by Micah’s jump to guitar, Tantrum once again opted to use a temporary bassist while they auditioned for the full-time replacement, this time turning to Chris Horne, a friend of Mark’s who had offered to swap his trusty guitar for a bass to help out. As before, Chris took the decision to make this a permanent position, much to the delight of the others.

Rather than stagnate while looking for the perfect drummer, Tantrum took the decision to place vocalist Mark—already an experienced drummer on his solo projects and session for others—behind the kit to allow them to continue moving forward and record their traditional Christmas EP without any loss of momentum.

In early January 2024, Tantrum embarked on a search for the perfect drummer to complete the lineup for the next phase of their musical journey. The auditions attracted numerous talented musicians, ultimately leading to the selection of Mark Riches as their new drummer.

Riches, renowned for his drumming prowess from his time with MacTallica, expressed his enthusiasm for joining Tantrum, stating, "Having been recommended to audition for Tantrum by my longtime friend Tony McShane of MacTallica, I spent an evening listening to their latest album Another Life and fell in love. It´s exactly what I was looking for musically". Tantrum are excited about the energy and expertise Mark Riches brings to the band and believes that his addition will further elevate their sound. Recording for the third album is already underway, more than half of which was written during the mixing and mastering process of last year’s Another Life. The second evolution of Tantrum has begun.

Battle-hardened Glasgow death metallers get ready for war with all-guns-blazing debut EP…

Words: Sam Law

The rumbling grind of diesel-fuelled tank tracks. Piercing rat-a-tat machine-gun fire. Distant obliterations. An endless chorus of moans of the dying and screams of the hopeless left behind…

War is hell. Its infernal soundscape has been the backdrop for the darkest moments in human history. Yet there is a primal need to return and re-examine that darkness – a morbid fascination, somewhere between bloodlust and horror – that means we cannot help but look back at the damage wrought and wonder how we, as individuals and as a species, are capable of such carnage.

Suffering Rites distill that chaotic captivation into soul-rattling sound. Across the four tracks of cast-iron first EP Eternal War, the Glasgow quintet – vocalist Kenny Campbell, guitarists Andy Cattigan and Joe McGonagle, bassist C and drummer Steve Wilkinson – build on the rich history of death metal to weave a weighty but nuanced picture not just of the awesome destruction of warfare, but also of the psychological and emotional trauma that’s still being inflicted around the world in 2024.

“We’re don’t write ‘War Metal’,” stresses the band. “We write metal about war. It’s brutal. It’s horrible. In the end, no-one wins. Mostly, we reflect those truths in sonic, rather than philosophical ways, but this is also encouraging people to understand the violence of history so as not to repeat it.”

Indeed, Suffering Rites are the latest product from a Scottish scene that’s flourishing through co-operation rather than conflict. Through outfits like Coffin Mulch, Penny Coffin, Rancid Cadaver, BrainBath, Enucleate, Party Cannon and Scordatura the UK’s frosty far north has become a breeding ground for truly cutting-edge heavy music. Veterans of acts like Circle of Tyrants and In Tongues (GHC) – Kenny also sings in BrainBath – Suffering Rites is all about adding their horsepower.

“We’ve never seen anything like what’s happening just now,” the band continues. “It’s incredible, not just to see every show absolutely rammed, but to have that atmosphere where people are moshing from start to finish – for bands from here. It’s also an incredibly supportive scene. From putting on shows to encouraging people to actually get out there and turn up to them to actually helping push forward with getting this EP out, it’s meant so much. We’ve had offers to help with artwork; to get cassette tapes made; to have songs played on the radio. It’s a great environment to be part of!”

The resultant songs are staggering. From the uncompromising ferocity of the opening title-track via the pulverising swagger of Overlord and blast-beaten highlight Dark Future to bludgeoning, shapeshifting, cataclysmic closer Blinding Light, the incorporation of hardcore, thrash and even black metal influences adds untold dimension to an already heavily-armoured attack.

Big on riffs. Big on atmosphere. Big on potential. It’s a frightening first release from a band who’ve already been ripping it up onstage for months, and a promise of so much more to come. Just don’t even think about getting in their way. Because only in death does duty end...

ORDER OF DECAY RELEASE "MORTIFICATION RITES"

PRESS RELEASE:

Sentient Ruin is proud to finally announce that mysterious Scottish dark doomed death metal behemoths Order of Decay are about to emerge with their crushing debut album "Mortification Rites", a blackened necrotic specter of omnipotent, atmospheric, slow-moving death.

The colossal work has been teased by Metal Injection via an exclusive premiere of the song “Blood Libation”, remarking how the track is “is sure to drag your day way down into the blackest reaches of nothingness” - you can check out the track and feature HERE.

Humongous in its scope and vision, and inexorably annihilating, "Mortification Rites" sees the anonymous collective construct massive and enveloping visions of moribund decay, conjuring premonitions of total doom across a forty-six minute, eight-track death-devoured sonic abyss. The album's immense and lightless aura is brought forth by an onslaught crushing and dissonant guitars enshrouding a monolithic, telluric rhythm section. Keyboard-laden soundscapes and necrotic vocal proclamations feed its imposing aura further, shaping a sonic beast of truly otherworldly traits. The work falls beautifully within the framework of the recognizable and iconic contemporary UK death-doom and dark death metal scene, following excellently in the footsteps of bands like Indesinence, Esoteric, Pantheïst, Grave Miasma and Cruciamentum, with its dismal atmospherics and oppressive onslaughts of dark, dissonant crushing, yet melodic guitar work. But "Mortification Rites" also brings a whole new breadth of darkness and destruction to the platter, often branching out into the same realms of infernal sonic maelstrom we've seen from Finnish dark death metal acts like Desolate Shrine, Maveth and particularly Krypts, to bring forth its own vision of absolute, abyssal death metal bedlam.

While anonymous, Order of Decay are no newcomers to the darkest death metal craft, and are formed by long time veterans of the UK underground death metal scene.

"Mortification Rites" is slated for a June 2 2023 worldwide release on LP, CD, MC and digital formats via Sentient Ruin with all formats now pre-orderable via all Sentient Ruin´s channels

INGRAVES RELEASE "HUMAN ABYSS"

PRESS RELEASE:

Hailing from central Scotland, Ingraves are a band of remarkable power and intensity. Their brand of gritty, raw metalcore is infused with a fierce determination to tackle difficult questions and give honest answers, to bare their wounds unashamed and offer a strong, supporting hand to those lost in the killing vortex of emotional struggle. This is not easy listening and there are no fake smiles to hide behind. With their debut EP Ingraves present a bloody, uncensored trip through the black hell of the Human Abyss.

The five songs that together complete the bleak, horrifying architecture of Human Abyss send you spinning through the darkness into a pit of despair, rage, rejection and nerve-shredding anxiety. Riffs are delivered like traumatic hammer blows from every angle; they circle, slithering, then attack with horrendous force. The ragged, rabid vocals unleash a venomous torrent of grief and fury, an acidic storm that dissolves defences and layers of pretence. Completed by a granite rhythm section that grinds the blackened, broken spirit into a new resolve, hard as diamonds, Ingraves are an explosion of fearsome, cathartic savagery. There’s a sense of redemption to be had within the sonic violence, but the transformative process is going to hurt.

While the global pandemic and despondent slough of the accompanying lockdown restrictions sucked the will to create from many bands, Ingraves embraced the unnerving uncertainty and battered it into a truly intimidating set of songs. They emerged bruised but unbroken, carrying Human Abyss with them. Step into the darkness of Human Abyss on March 10th, face your demons and beat them down.

ASHENSPIRE TO RELEASE "HOSTILE ARCHITECTURE"

PRESS RELEASE:

Unleashing on July 15, 2022 the Glaswegian avant-garde black metal act presents challenging and abrasive musical textures in a progressive, black metal framework.

ASHENSPIRE debuted in 2017 on Code666 records with Speak Not of the Laudanum Quandary, a critique of British Imperialism. The new album Hostile Architecture is a commentary on the widening of the inconceivably vast wealth gap between capitalists and the working class, and growing alienation between one another. Musically the outfit create alluring and yet disturbing soundscapes which develop as the album progresses. Grounding the mood with intense dissonance and distortion, jazz influences and ethereal violin parts construct a stark contrast. The discomforting chaos emerges through contrapuntal melodies such as those used in "BÉTON BRUT". Manipulating dynamics amid tracks, and throughout Hostile Architecture, enhances the emotional anguish of ASHENSPIRE's powerful message. With an anguished tone, the unsettling vocal quartet in "HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE VISION" diverges significantly from the darker sounds that dominate elsewhere.

Hostile Architecture sees ASHENSPIRE leaning further into avant-garde jazz tendencies and black metal dissonance in a more full realization of their own Sprechstimme. Engaging with evolving compositional styles and experimental techniques, ASHENSPIRE are cultivating exceptional music.

The band has unleashed a video for their first single "Tragic Heroin" which you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBNY-l3NT9s

MISOPHONIA JOINS SLIPTRICK RECORDS

PRESS RELEASE:

MisophoniA are a melodic metal act hailing from Glasgow Scotland. The group is heavily influenced by European melo-death acts such as Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates while showcasing some black metal and doom tendencies akin to the stylings of Satyricon, Primordial, Paradise lost and My Dying Bride. The Band formed back in 2017 and performed their first show in 2018, they went on to play a handful of shows alongside local Glasgow and Edinburgh acts as well as playing as opening support to Godthrymm.

2019 into 2020 saw the band going through a very rough transitional period due to sudden line-up departures in April of 2019. It took the band until 2020 to find suitable replacements complicated by the Covid 19 pandemic as well. The band prevailed and in the summer of 2020 MisophoniA were joined by Justin Laidlaw on Guitars and Kenneth Boyle on drums. The band then managed to compile a 5 track EP aptly titled New Beginnings which saw the band trying out a new sound and got the band back on the radar.

MisophoniA have gone from strength to strength, you could say it’s the bands resurrection. Now in 2022, the band are stronger than ever and are enjoying the newest fruits of their labour, the release El Silencio Será Eterno.

TYRANNUS RELEASE "IT TAKETH"

PRESS RELEASE:

Tyrannus

It Taketh

Independent, Born Too Late Tapes

27 July 2021

Location: Scotland

Genre: Black/Death/Thrash Metal w/ (Psychedelic atmosphere)

FFO: Absu, Mystifier, and Mortuary Drape.

Scottish extreme metal group Tyrannus presents the demo, It Taketh, which originally came digitally on 25 June 2021, and later got released on cassettes via Born Too Late Tapes on 27 July 2021.

Formed in 2018 by Callum John Cant and Alasdair Dunn, Tyrannus concurrently brings forth ruination and obliviousness. In 2019, soon after the formation, the Scottish duo unleashed the self-titled EP, which mostly dwells in the dominion fierce black/death metal, conjuring an agile speed/thrash metal vivacity.

While the first EP is very much an example of Tyrannus figuring out their sound but perhaps not being committed enough to an approach yet, the latest demo release, It Taketh, ushered in the new dawn as the band finally untangled their songcrafting approaches and tracked down their fully-realized vision. The songs on the demo can perhaps be labeled as “psychedelic thrashy black/death metal,” due to the erratic appearances of eerie, demoniacal synth passages. Although the psychedelic atmosphere inflicts an atypical experience on this escapade, the calamitous, barbaric blackened death metal is still the spine of this three-track demo release.

Tyrannus has recently expanded the lineup by adding Alistair Harley on bass. He will be featured on the debut full-length, which is currently in process.

States the band:

“The ‘It Taketh’ demo is meant to be a taster of more to come from Tyrannus — an album which takes varied influences and warps them into a concept and a story with themes of Lovecraftian horror and antifascism. We want people to listen to this demo and to be as excited as we are for what's next to come from us. We firmly believe in the music we have written and are looking forward to finally sharing our fully realized vision.”

5.Rancid Guttation

6.Devoured by Hypomyces

7.Essence of Deliquescence

8.Stipe Full of Maggots

9.Marginata

The spores of MYCELIUM were dropped in the diseased Spring of 2020, and germinated throughout the period of self-isolation and lockdowns. Founded in Glasgow, Scotland, by sole member Greg Edwards [Necronoclast], Mycelium is a mould-ridden musical entity, inspired by the diversity of the fungal kingdom and taking influence from classic 90s death metal. Mycelium explores the dark side of mycology; a world of decay, parasites and poisons which form an essential part of our repulsive world.

With the debut album "Scream Bloody Spore", Mycelium takes the listener on a forage through some of mycology's darkest inhabitants, mixing the mystique and ambience of these evanescent organisms with harsh, yet memorable, aural brutality. With lyrics rooted in science and nature, yet extending into a world of horror and death, "Scream Bloody Spore" is at times as educational as it is macabre. The dark journey through fungi such as the Destroying Angel and the Funeral Bell is further enhanced by spectacular artwork created by Slovakian maestro Dávid Glomba [Ascension, Teitanblood].

With "Scream Bloody Spore", Mycelium has formed a putrescent bridge between the worlds of death metal and mycology, beckoning with abhorrence to those who dare to cross.

PRESS RELEASE:

Hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland, Husband-and-wife two piece HAND OF KALLIACH arose in December 2020 with the launch of their fascinating debut EP, "Shade Beyond".

As their touching eclectic ATMOSPHERIC CELTIC METAL sound is defined by distilled Scottish, Gaelic and Celtic overtones, blended with a poisonous Melodeath Metal foundation, it was picked up very quickly by stations and playlists as 'January's Band Of The Month' on the Midnight Hour show on Metal Meyhem Radio.

Official release: Dec. 8ᵗʰ, 2020

TRACKLIST:

01. Fàilte 04:56

02. Fathoms 02:59

03. Overwhelm 03:27

04. White Horizon 05:19

05. In Tempest Wrought 07:08

total: 23:49

Whilst influenced by Folk music, HAND OF KALLIACH creates minimal use of traditional instruments, instead lifting rhythms, time signatures and patterns from Folk music and adapts them for distorted guitars.

The tracks of "Shade Beyond" range in atmosphere from the charged energy of "In Tempest Wrought" and "White Horizon", to the raw aggression of "Fathoms" and the darker intonations of "Fàilte", and to the more classic Metal punch of "Overwhelm".

LINE-UP:

Sophie Fraser • Vocals, Bass

John Fraser • Vocals, Guitars, Drums

The overwhelming mixture of the multi-talented pair is truly as unique as it is hypnotic - just dare to imagine a deeply lovely voice like Sarah Brightman's, as in "White Horizon," where the vocals then soar into gripping epic visions of world escape!

SCORDATURA TO RELEASE "MASS FAILURE"

Scottish death metal beasts SCORDATURA have announced the released date for their new album "Mass Failure": September 25th. As the band states:

"After three years the undisputed kings of Scottish death metal have returned with their third album of unrelenting savagery. SCORDATURA’s unholy union of old school song writing and new school intensity has never been more brutally, wickedly effective than on the nine canticles of carnage that together form the mighty Mass Failure.

Scordatura have always pushed hard at the boundaries of extremity, delivering pulverising death metal of the very heaviest kind. From their 2013 debut, Torment Of The Weak, to their acclaimed second album Self-Created Abyss and now with Mass Failure, the band have striven to harness the horrific, the skull shattering and the heart-stoppingly brutal within a framework of finely crafted songs. They have never achieved their goals in such absolute fashion as they have on Mass Failure, with songs like ‘Skin Trophy’ and ‘Collapse Of Humanity’ hacking and carving their way into your brain, sculpting a shrine to their own metallic malevolence into the sacred library of your neocortex. These odes to obliteration, this evensong for the last days of humanity simply will not be forgotten, in all its glorious, frantic violence - balancing precariously between precision delivery and wild attacking power.

Together with their label, Gore House Productions, Scordatura are preparing to bring a scourge of real, ruthless death metal to the world - steeped in the blood and guts of the genre’s pioneers. The assault will begin on September 25th and total victory is the only option. Chaos is about to be unleashed!
