One of the longest running punk acts in the German punk
rock world, EA 80 formed in Mönchengladbach in 1979 as Panzerfaust and changed
their name to EA 80 in 1980. Their first release, a 7" entitled Der Mord
Fällt Aus, pretty much straight up Joy Division worship hit the streets in
1982, and the group has had a fairly regular release schedule over the past decades.
The album Vorsicht Schreie (Beware of Screams) was recorded in September of
1983 at Joswig Studio in 3 days and self-released by the band later that year.
Vorsicht Schreie was a huge leap forward and set the bar pretty high for German
punk in the early '80s. The first track is sung in English, and the rest of the
album in German. It was re-recorded in 2004 and contains a cover version of Heinrich
by Yacoepsae.
EA 80’s Junge (vocals / guitar); "10 good reasons to
be careful about re-recording “Screams”:
1. the old LP / CD has been sold out for years, a new
edition would have been a fresh start so why not, right?
2. a little finger exercise (against gout)
3. a search for the roots (and find yourself)
4. the incisive experience of having heard the original
version loudly in a pub
5. curiosity; how might it sound 21 years later
6. record a complete LP with Master Bolz, who has been
with us for years
7. close a circle
8. the idea with the 'glow in the dark' Pic-disc, so you
don't have to buy the record just because of the ingenious new packaging
9. instead of a tribute or greatest hits record and there
was no real new one now
10. Printing of the record company and the management."
