After the unexpected and much too early demise of The Nefilim, guitarist Paul Miles and drummer Simon Rippin pulled together with Peter ‘Bob’ White to knock out an album that puts Gothic influences in the foreground, even more than the Neph’s masterpiece "Zoon", and which apart from the tough production hardly shows any metallic elements. That the music does not degenerate into a mere copy, especially because of the somewhat harder guitars, which remind me of The Neph’s, and when it comes to the vocals, you may just feel reminded of their former employer. After all the half-baked metal combinations from Carl McCoy and the boys, it is good to hear thoroughbred darkwave again. The atmosphere is bloody and like a dark red thread draws you through tracks 'This Emptiness', 'My Life', 'The Calling' and 'Dreams Of The Dead (Remix)'. Purists should enjoy the dark heart of this album when listening, which is consistently committed and then recommitted to the traditions of Fields Of The Nephilim. Unfortunately, this album has not been able to step out from its overwhelming big brother’s shadow. But no matter as those who know good Goth Rock can be a little more guitar-driven, will surely find this a nice addition to their collection.
