Exploding White Mice - A Nest Of Vipers 12”

Another essential piece of Australia's garage rock revival of the 1980s, the inaugural release by Adelaide's Exploding White Mice, A Nest of Vipers on the Greasy Pop label, a solid, short and sharp blast of MC5/Stooges/Radio Birdman type stuff in that post-punk garage style. A release into that 80s garage space alongside Screaming Tribesmen, Lime Spiders, The Stems and so on. The six tracks offered here feature three originals plus three raw, punked up covers. Of the originals my pick is definitely the EP's final song, Jeff Stephens' "Dangerous", a good rough ride, plenty of momentum and great sneery attitude. My pick of the covers is their version of Bo Diddley's "Let The Kids Dance", although all are good, I appreciate the slow building cover of The Wheels "Bad Little Woman" that speeds up and up. Important release as it kicked off the EWM, not to mention that it made me aware of that Adelaide Greasy Pop scene.
