Hello again you lucky, lucky people and welcome to
Monday. We begin the new week with a wee New Wave / Post Punk band that you’ll
have never heard of. I picked this up purely on a whim and was well rewarded
for my efforts. The blurb claims that they’re from France but my ears don’t
hear many songs sung in French or even song titles written in French…Seriously,
these blokes must be a wee bit confused as they sound and sing in, well, German
which is no bad thing in my book of modern Post Punk and New Wave. Anyway,
apart from that this is a nice little self-released album with drum machine
driven beats, sparse bass and guitars, dark vocals, a pinch of overdriven synth
with a nod and a wink to similar early and mid 80’s beat combos. I’ll let you
make up your own minds about how this works in todays over saturated European music
scene since there has been a huge resurgence in Coldwave / Darkwave and Post
Punk in recent years. Steriles Land fits nicely with the music I was buying and
listening to during the great pandemic. If melancholy and restless sleep is
your nightly partners, this won’t help to raise your mood in the slightest. Enjoy!
