As a parent, watching our children grow up ... our heads swell from time to time, as our children achieve, our hearts race and the heart beat truly does go a little faster [major understatement]. Sometimes it just pounds!!!
Last night at the annual school prize giving, we had one of those moments ... one of those times that the heart raced just a little bit quicker – I sat there beaming ... that’s my boy ...
The young man went up on stage and received the prize for small bore rifle shooting, he captained the shooting team at a tournament ... go N!!!! He knew he was going up to receive this particular trophy and while it was an honour to do so on behalf of the team [and it was], it still wasn’t ‘his’ prize as such, if that makes sense.
We sat there watching as the awards ceremony progressed, clapping, nodding, doing all those things that you do ... as we recognised names of students and obviously children of friends and acquaintances.
But then ...
The big one ... OMG ... it was a biggie ... our young man was awarded the Colonel D G Grant Memorial Prize – Year 11 for Citizenship – upholding the school values of compassion, honesty, perseverance, responsibility, respect and service.
We had absolutely no idea, N had absolutely no idea ...
We didn’t have the video camera going ... we didn’t know ...
Today as I write this post, I am still stoked, I’ve got real tears ... I’m so very proud of our young man ... he does know that ... I’m sure he does.
Just saying.
Later
