Shake, shake, shake

Shake, shake, shake ...

Sharing a shaker card.

and now a closer look ...

Now if you know me at all you will know that purple is my most favourite colour.

I was asked recently if I wanted to play with some sequins and to pick a couple of colours.

Ummmmmmmm ... no brainer ... that would be a purple selection.

And you guessed it ... I did just that ... I played with some purple sequins.

Personal opinion only, I think this card turned out fabulous teamed up with a little black and white and a splash of gold.

You can find this gorgeous mix of sequins right here.

For dies, stamps and plenty of crafting goodies check out Anita's website.

It's been a while ...

It's been a while - life just really got in the way - definitely got in the way of being creative - my poor ol' head just hasn't been in the right head space.

But that has to change - it's not a nice feeling.

It's time for me to play a little in my craft room before I head back to work in the New Year.

I've got a heap of unfinished projects lying around.

But I've got lots of things to share over the coming days and weeks.

Promise.

Let's get started.

Here's a project that I finally finished and whilst I am normally absolutely rapt with the photos I take of my projects - the photos of this one - nope, can't say that at all.

I couldn't find my big white sheet when it came time to take photos - I searched high and low and couldn't find it anywhere.

Then, well then I remembered that I used it on the TV in the dining room so that I could cover our TV stand and at the moment there sits the fibre optic tree and my Santa and Snowmen parade.

Duh moi!!!!

So whilst the photos aren't as sharp as normal, they are here.

Might just have to rephotograph this one in the New Year.  Time will tell.

The tray itself is a wooden tray that was full of Prima resins.

It started off with that naked look.

It needed to be dressed shall we say.

I applied gesso and let it dry.

I have then used a selection of three different mists and a paintbrush to apply colour to the wooden frame tray.  When it was dry I then randomly applied gesso and then a little medium gel and dipped my finger tip into black spun sugar and randomly applied a little around the edges.

I've used Prima Rossibelle papers and flowers.

I've also used two really old Prima vines.

The main photo is annoying me now, big time - I'm thinking those Santas and Snowmen have to be packed away so that I can use my white sheet for new photos. - ROFLMAO.

Now you knew that you were going to see heaps of close up shots - cos that's the way that I roll.

My wee bottle has pink and white beads - it has a cork glued into the top - a double row of pearls glued on - the word love and then I have added a little gel and dabbed a little black spun sugar on the top of it - randomly applied it on my bottle.

So there you have it - a little creativity from me.

I actually have a Christmas tray very similar to this one that needs to be photographed - must do that.  It's now on the 'to do list'.

If you are having a few days off work this festive season, sure hope that you find a little time to be creative - a little 'you' time.

I plan on a little 'me time' tomorrow.

Happy creating everyone.

A special friend ...

On Friday night New Zealand time I wrote the following post on my Facebook page.

What's on my mind - I'm heartbroken.
Today the paper crafting world lost someone special.
Many lost a very special family member. ‘The child’ [said ever so affectionately] lost a wonderful Mom.
Our creative team lost both a mentor and a friend – we lost our Grand Unicorn.
Me, well I lost a special friend. Alda was more than one of those special online friends – unfortunately she was one of those friends that now I will never get to meet in real life. [if I could fast forward next August, I so would - honest].
This special friend had an amazing talent, she had so much to share, so much to offer others, she was so very generous and she gave so much of herself to so many. She was unique, and yes, she was definitely one of a kind.
It has been a privilege and an honour and I am proud to call you my friend.
Fly free Alda and spread your glittery pink dust wherever the path leads you.
Memories are forever
and forever we will cherish them
Big squishy hugs 'boss',
Me, the one at the bottom of the world

Watch out for her - she will be playing.
Well I sure hope that she finds the time for playing.

Earlier today I posted the following ...

Sometimes creating can be very soothing for the soul.
I was thinking about a very special woman whilst creating this card last night.
A special woman who inspired so many, and with love I will fondly remember a special friend, for now and for always.
Too dearly loved to be forgotten.
Rest in peace

Alda loved the colour pink and in my last box of goodies I received some gorgeous Prima Rossibelle papers together with some 13 Arts mists/sprays.

So you guessed it - definitely fitting to make a special card for a special friend.

With love ...

Me, the one at the bottom of the world

Christmas creativity

Christmas creating is in full swing at my place.

Let me share a wee project with you today.

A tag, a matchbox and a house - truly!

What a combination.

and this tag sits inside the drawer

another wee look

So what have I done.

I have made a large matchbox using a Sizzix metal die set.

To give you some idea of how big the matchbox is, I have used the journalling cards from a Prima Rossibelle 3x4 journalling notecard pad as my patterned paper on the matchbox, my house and my tag.

Recently I saw a matchbox house made by the fabulous Monika Jakubowska and I thought to myself, love that idea and so I played.

A structural engineer I am not, but I played with some paper, a very old bird house template that had long sat buried in my craft room and then some cardstock and paper before I was a little happier with the way I was going to be building my house.

After I made my matchbox I layered a piece of corrugated card [read here, cut a piece from your pizza box], adhere to the top of your matchbox, then adhere a little pulled apart muslin.

Cut a variety of pieces of Christmas foliage - I have used three or four different dies here and I have layered them on top of each other.

Add another piece of corrugated card, a little more muslin and some more dies.

You really are building up the layers on this one.

and then I have added a branch embellishment with a little colour
and another foliage die cut and of course my house.

Don't be shy using plenty of adhesive when you are gluing down your house.

Now my house - let's talk a wee bit about the house.

Built from cardstock and patterned paper.

My roof - well that was a bit of a mission - I punched out numerous cardstock brick shapes and built them up on my roof, some I doubled up and some I put another piece of corrugated cardboard underneath them, giving them height as I was building my roof to help keep the slope, before I then glued on some icicle pieces [a Marianne Design Creatables die LR0392].

Then I grabbed a paintbrush and some Aleene's Glitter Snow and randomly applied on the roof and surrounding areas.  I was quite generous with the Glitter Snow and then I sprinkled glitter everywhere and trust me on this one, I mean everywhere [including me].

A closer look at the roof.

Remember earlier in my post I admitted to not being a structural engineer [and I'm not] - so since building this wee house, there are many things that I would do a little differently next time.

And so I will.

When I make a matchbox, I have to make a tag as well - it just wouldn't be right without a tag.

and yes, it tucks away just snugly inside the matchbox drawer

So there you have it.

Prima Rossibelle journalling notecards used to build a matchbox,
a house and a tag - truly Christmas creativity.

Happy creating everyone.

It goes without saying that you can find many of these items in the Flying Unicorn store.

Kaisercraft extra large pearl brads

I will admit though to digging deep in my stash for some long lost Prima product - some of it may have been ummmmmmmmmmm ... from pre 2010 - crikey.

Nothing like mixing the old with the new.

We have to remember not to keep things 'for good' my friends, for then some of these 'for good' things get overlooked and buried.

Happy creating everyone.
Until next time,

A little black, white, grey and PURPLE ...

I sure hope that you all aren't sick and tired of me sharing my screen cards - why?

Cos here is another one - can't help myself, sorry.

Be patient, I'm sure to get sick of making them, sooner or later.

Nope, chances are - not for a while.

This time a little grey, a little black, a little white and a little purple.

Quite an elegant colour combination in my opinion.

The grey papers are from a 6x6" paper pad - Say Cheese - which you can find in the Flying Unicorn store here.

I teamed them up with the gorgeous Petaloo purple flowers which you can find in the Flying Unicorn store here.

And I am still loving the self adhesive butterflies - these are a Kaisercraft product.  And you guessed it, you can find them in the Flying Unicorn store too - right here.

Happy creating everyone.

Christmas cards

It's getting closer - it's closer than you think and no, I will not count out and tell you how many days there are between now and then.

Well I could, but I won't.

What I will do is quickly have a show and tell on how I put together a Christmas card.

It's a whole lot easier than you think and I have to say, pretty darn quick to whip them up.

For this particular card I have used a Christmas paper pad from Kaisercraft.

Before I started I used my Big Shot Plus/Cuttlebug to cut out a variety of pieces of Christmas foliage.
On this card I have used four separate metal dies.

The base of my card is a piece of white cardstock 5" by 10" and I have scored it in half.

Now I start to cut additional layers, going down in increments of 1/4".

Cut one piece of patterned paper 4 3/4" x 4 3/4" and adhere to the cardstock base.

Cut another piece of white cardstock 4 1/2" x 4 1/2 and adhere.

Cut a piece of patterned paper 4 1/4" x 4 1/4".

I've got this one just sitting on the top of the cardstock.

I have then torn the edge from the right hand side down on an angle and left it raw.

Adhere to your cardstock.

This is the base of your card.

And now, well now I realised that something happened to the camera and I haven't got pics.

Grrrrrhhhhh - no idea what happened to be honest.

But let me talk you through what I have done.

In this photo here ... you can see a small piece of corrugated cardboard [ex pizza box].

I have used this piece and adhered near to the top of the left hand side of my card.

I have pulled apart a small piece of muslin [cheesecloth] and adhered.

Then I have put another dollop of glue on the top and layered some of my pieces of Christmas foliage.

I have also rolled a strand of red cotton and just left it lying on one of the dollops of glue between the foliage layers to add a little colour amongst the white.

On this card I have used a very old Prima flower and popped some stamens and a little more muslin through the top.

I have also cut out a Christmas sentiment and I have to admit something here, that is really, really old from a Websters paper pack from yonks ago.

I have then glued down a couple of red sequins.

And to finish off my card I have randomly applied the most fabulous Christmas snow stuff - well in my opinion it is - it is a product called Aleene's True Snow.

This wee tub is a glitter snow and if you click on the photo itself you will see that it has a glitter shine to it.

So there you have it.

One Christmas card and it really was surprisingly quick to whip up.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy creating.

How about another one ...

Hi there and welcome back. Yep, I'm on a roll. I realised that I hadn't shared this layout - another one ... White, green and orang...
