It's been a hell of a week really ...
Tuesday dawned just like any other day ... no reason for it to be any different from any other working day.
You hit the alarm, just to give you another few minutes in bed ... you leave it too long and then you really do dive out of bed, hit the shower, do the make up thing, get dressed and you are out the door and on your way to work.
I was looking forward to lunch on Tuesday. I was meeting up with a friend that I hadn't had the chance to catch up with, in what seems like ages.
Lunch time came, we did the lunch thing ... yummy lunch it was too by the way ... she mentioned to me about the new pedicure place in town that I didn't know anything about ... we shot down to the arcade to have a wee nosey.
While in the vicinity we popped into another shop to have a look, her cell phone rang as it does, she is a busy lady.
I watched the expression on her face, she went white, she truly did ... I normally switch off when I hear people talking on cell phones and quite simply put, I don't take any notice of what they are saying, it's none of my business ... now remember I said though, that her face, well she went white ... I heard her say ... are you alright ... there's silence our end ... she's waiting for a response ... they continue to talk ... she mentions to me that there has been an earthquake, her husband was in Christchurch for the day on business, he was on the second floor of a building in the CBD ... he's out, he's scared, but yes he's okay ...
My friend's face is still white-ish ... we keep walking down the arcade, we say our goodbyes, we talk about scrapping and catching up again ... cos that's what you do.
At this point in time, neither of us knows just how bad it is in Christchurch ... but OMG it didn't take long to find out.
At 1.00 pm on Tuesday I sent a text to my sister living in Christchurch ... are you ok.
At 1.01 pm on Tuesday - her response ... yep
At 1.01 pm on Tuesday I sent her another text ... big earthquake
At 1.03 pm on Tuesday - her response ... how did you know
Won't bore you with all the details of all the other texts ... but we all know that cell phones whether calling or texting brings information to everyone so much quicker. [and for so many they have proven to be a life line].
So in between times I was sending a flurry of texts to some friends to check up on them ... still not knowing the full extent of the damage.
The damage ... unbelievable.
The destruction, the loss of life, the missing, the loss of so many things ... it is truly beyond belief.
The photos, the stories, the television coverage since ... well it all looks like something that we have seen before now ... but from places overseas ... a war zone ... and definitely not somewhere so close to home.
Mother Nature has a lot to answer for.
I've been typing away and changing this and changing that to try and make sense of what it was I wanted to say ... don't know that I have been overly successful ... but will leave it the way it is.
Many things that we all take for granted, so many of you in the Christchurch area are struggling with at the moment or are totally without.
Life for so many will have changed for ever.
Over the coming days and weeks [and longer] ... look out for each other.

Scottie Crafts sketch ...
If you read my last post and went wandering and had a looksy at the Scottie Crafts blog post you will have come across a sketch ... their first sketch up on their blog ...
Don't be shy - have a go.
Sketches can be interpreted in so many ways and you can use a sketch as a starting point and go with the flow.
Here's my creation.

Shopping ...
I need to do a little shopping, sooner, rather than later ... at Whitcoulls.
I'm another one of those gift card holders.
It's a shame really - one can only hope that they can trade out of their difficulties.
Just saying.

It's an early start ... tomorrow ...
N has to be at the airport tomorrow morning at 6.15 am ... yep, you read it right ... that would be at 6.15 am, you know, in the morning and it's a Sunday ... there goes my ... oops ... there goes DH's lie -in ... ROFLMAO ...
N is flying to Christchurch and then heading here ... http://www.thewillows.org.nz/ to play cricket for the day.
Up until just over 24 hours ago, I had never heard of the Willows ... but what an opportunity for the team.
So Mother Nature would you please listen to me, I'm asking very nicely ... blue skies and around 20 degrees would be pleasant for the boys to play a little cricket ... N is more than a little sunburnt from earlier in the week ... so be gentle.
It's a long day ... not due back in until 8.20 pm tomorrow night ...
So wowser, cricket today, cricket tomorrow ... ummmmmmmmm ... cricket Monday and cricket Tuesday ... interschool against Shirley Boys' on Monday and Tuesday.
Right then, better check the chicken nibbles that are baking away in the oven ... the joys of having a home game today ... to provide something for lunch.

That time of the year again ...
You need a whole lot of this ...

and a whole lot of white paint ...
to look like this !!!!!!!

At 7.30 am I was out on the front lawn painting his back ... I kid you not ... the neighbours must have thought we were completely bonkers really ...
and a whole lot of white paint ...
to look like this !!!!!!!
and yep, this is the way this young man went to school this morning ... I know this how ... cos I dropped him off at school on my way to work.
At 7.30 am I was out on the front lawn painting his back ... I kid you not ... the neighbours must have thought we were completely bonkers really ...
It was interhouse sports day today, the fun day ... the day that the boys dress up in their house colours and face paint sales rocket in the days leading up to the big day.
They still have to perform enough so that they qualify for the 'real athletics day' though ...
Honestly you've got to wonder what the year 7's think ... the new boys at school, they've only been at school for two weeks and then they have something like this ... and the big boys are thundering down
We must have had one of the hottest days this Summer today and trust me on this one ... the sun still managed to get through this paint ... now he's sporting the colour red - you and I both call it sunburn.
He took the other digital camera to school with him today and he got some bobby dazzler photos.

Sneak peek ...
I've been a little creative with the gorgeous monthly kit from Country Papercraft in Australia ... love the blues in this kit, but felt like I needed a little more colour ...
So out came my peeled paint distress ink - one of the many from the man himself ... I've also used Martha Stewart's frond punch and voila ... my punched out leaves were once blue!
I handmade my flowers, using my Slice, a little glimmermist and a little distressing and scrunching.

Loving the way this wee embellishment cluster turned out.
I will be able to share the whole layout when the newsletter heads around cyber space sometime next week.

Woo hoo ...
school's back ...
Like many parents, I breathed a big sigh last week knowing that school was a couple of days away ... well that was the start of the week [last week] ... lol ... and I'm honest.
School subjects confirmed, stationery lists flying, naming pens, school uniform and yep, I thought, he thought ... that DS's blazer had been to the dry cleaners - turned out it hadn't, but it has now ... crikey!
And we are now how many days into the school term ... school notice came home today - please sign here type thing and $140 later ... that's one subject, done and dusted ... wonder what is coming out of his school bag tomorrow night.
On that note ...

P.S. looks good though everyone's lunch box full and sitting in the fridge for tomorrow --- one for DH for work, one for DS for school and one for me, for work ...

WHY is it ...
Why is it that when you have a nice clean, sparkly fridge, someone near and dear to you slops something and doesn't let you know.
Why is it that when you have made a nice cup of coffee and you feel like something naughty, you head to the box of choccie biscuits that you have seen sitting on the shelf in the fridge and there is only one left. Why do they do that?
Why is it when you go into the pantry to grab a muesli bar, the box is empty ... I mean hello ...
Why is it when you have done all the washing for the day and I mean two or three loads, one decides to actually remove dirty washing from ones bedroom floor and put it out in the laundry basket ... grrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhh!
Why is it that when you are on the phone, someone else just has to tell you something?
Why is it when you have just been down on your hands and knees scrubbing the kitchen floor, someone comes along and spills something and doesn't clean it up ...
Why is it the day that you decide the do the housework first instead of showering and dressing, you will have visitors arrive at your door.
... and we so WON'T TALK about the loo ...
On that note ...

A little loving ...
perhaps ... that's not quite the right title ... but it will do for now ...
My weekend challenge with the girls over the ditch - to be a little creative with red, pink and white ...
Why those colours ... cos it is coming up to Valentine's Day ... you know that 'special day' that some people spend an arm and a leg on ... wow, the commercial side of it is absolutely huge. Crazy really.
Don't get me wrong, I love receiving little treats too ... but there truly is no need to break the bank.
So here we have my wee creation - ta da ...

A little white cardstock, another layer of cardstock, four squares of patterned paper, a little tulle ruffled under a heart shaped doily and as you can see I have grabbed a couple of chippie hearts and a little bakers twine ...
Now that wasn't difficult was it ... looks better in real life though.
Just saying.
