Call me traditional ... perhaps ...

Something you might not know about me ...

I love Christmas.  I truly do.  The build up to Christmas, the shopping for Christmas gifts, the wrapping, the creativity, the decorating, the gifting ... I love it all, the cooking ... everything.

And as far as I’m concerned, it’s never too early to start making Christmas cards and decorations for the festive period.

And wait for it ... I love traditional.  Call me a little old-fashioned ... but I love the traditional Christmas colours of green, reds, burgundy, gold, cream ... the rich, warm Christmassy colours.

This is what I have whipped up for you all ... an easel card and a ‘how to’ if you like ... it’s not difficult, in fact, it’s not even that time consuming ... here you go.

Products used :

and two close ups ...

How have I put this card together ...

I’ve used white cardstock as my base, folded it in half and cut out my shape using a Spellbinders die and run it through my Cuttlebug.  I’ve folded the top back halfway and scored.  I’ve cut out another piece of cardstock using the die and adhered to the top half of my card.

I’ve then cut out two shapes using patterned paper, one adhered to the top of the card and I’ve torn it, to layer it a little.  For this particular card I am using a 6” pad from Kaisercraft ‘Belle’ ... gorgeous traditional Christmas colours.

Another piece of patterned paper through the Cuttlebug and this has been adhered to the inside of my card, or more correctly, the top of the bottom piece of card.

Remember how I said that I love adding bitsers to my creations, well I do.  I’ve turned the hot glue gun on and then I’ve glued down a little muslin [cheese cloth] and then glued down bitsers that I have raided from the leftovers of another Christmas project.  I’ve also used the white flowery piece from one of the Manorhouse Creations flowers that Alda has available in the shop.  I’m forever pulling things apart and re-using them on various projects when I create.

I’ve then glued a few Christmas baubles here and there, and added a little piece of fake Christmas tree branch as well.

I’ve made a seam binding bow and added a few baubles to the top of the card.  I’ve cut out a butterfly, which I have painted over with an irridiscent medium and dried and voila.

Just like that.

A Christmas card made for a special friend.

Happy creating everyone.

A time to play ...

I don't seem to play with the Cardabilities sketch often enough ...

Will definitely try and do something about that !!!

Their latest sketch ...

and I thought to myself I am going to make time to play with it and here you go ... my take on it ...

and a close up was always going to happen ...

And this card, was whipped up using the gorgeous papers again from Bo Bunny - Prairie Chic 6x6 pad ...

A few baubles, a flower or two, some leaves and voila ...

Happy creating everyone.

Bo Bunny - Prairie Chic Collection

... and the papers in this 6x6 paper pad are bea-u-ti-ful ...

They truly are.

A little close up first off ...

these papers are stunning, I've also used a rub on, a little corrugated cardboard - love ripping those pizza boxes up, layered a Kaisercraft wooden flourish on the top, popped on a flower or two, dug deep and found some really old lace and cut a little seam binding and voila ...

just like that ...

and moving right along ...

doesn't this embossing look amazing ... this is a little Stampendous shabby embossing enamel

I've cut out a cardstock diecut shape using my Cuttlebug and a metal die

then I've swiped an embossing pad over the top, sprinkled this embossing enamel over the top

grabbed the hot glue gun oops, should read heat gun and heated from underneath

and voila ...

I'm in love with this stuff ...

and my card, in its entirety

The papers in this paper pad are divine.

I love creating with these paper pads.

Happy creating everyone.

Studio 75 and a little Sunshine Love ...

It’s no secret that I love to make little boxes.

Little boxes can come in all different shapes and sizes, we all know that.

Little boxes to pop a treat or two in and send or gift to someone to bring a smile.  To let that someone know that I was thinking of them.

Let me share something else with you ... I love to create with those small paper pads and the papers from Studio 75 are absolutely fabulous for doing just that.  They are a brilliant weight for scoring and folding.

I’ve made this little box – well to be honest it is more like a packet.  To get the shape of this wee treat box/packet I have used an old Wrigleys Extra gum packet and traced around it.

I’ve cut it out and used my Scoreboard to score all the lines, folded, used double sided tape and then I’ve run two Prima fluid chalk ink pads around the edges, added a Velcro dot and then I’ve embellished using a few Prima flowers, some muslin, a tag and I have also used a little Prima packaging ... waste not, want not and then I’ve run a metal die through my Cuttlebug and cut out a butterfly ... and just like that ... voila ...

and a wee close up ...

[oops, I've just noticed I was a wee tad heavy handed with the glue gun ... have to say that I didn't pick up on that when I was putting this wee project together ...]

 And from the store ...
Happy creating everyone.

A little Christmas in July ...

Don't shoot me down girls ... it's never too early to start creating for Christmas ... ducking for cover now ... come on, you know I'm right ... you might not want to hear it at the moment, but you know that I am right.

One of the July challenges ... well that would be a Christmas challenge ... head over to the forum and have a look ... it's not difficult ... create a little something Christmassy and enter the challenge.

I grabbed a few supplies as you do ... you must have known that I would always have a play with a challenge that has a little something to do with Christmas ... just saying.

I’ve used shipping tags as the base of these tags, but if you haven’t any in your stash, a piece of cardstock will do the trick and cut it into a tag shape.

I’ve adhered a background paper from the Belle 6” pad and cut around the tag and then I have run my sandpaper block around the edge lightly – not to give it a truly distressed look, just a light sanding.  I’ve then cut out another tag, slightly smaller than the bottom tag and once again run the sanding block around the edge.

One tag I have then run through an embossing folder and the other I haven’t.

That’s part of the reason I make two in conjunction with one another, if I don’t particularly like the look, I can tweak it a little bit while making the second ... or if I change my mind part way through, I do that for the second one.

I’ve then grabbed a stencil and some modelling paste and stencilled over both tags and waited for them to dry, purely to give my tag a little texture.

While that was drying I have cut some Christmassy foliage shapes and lightly dabbed snowcap paint on them.

I’ve heated up the hot glue gun and started assembling and gluing all my embellishments onto the tags.
And to finish, I’ve lightly touched areas with picket distress crackle paint.

and the second tag ...

and close ups ...

and I even made my wee pine cones ... that's the first time that I have actually been reasonably happy with the end of result ... I'm one of those ones that has to keep tweaking ... you know how it is ...

Just like that ... voila!

From the Flying Unicorn store ...

Happy creating everyone ...

And if you are in my part of the world, wrap up warm people, keep warm and batten down the hatches ... we are in for a wild and windy weekend ...
