Flying Unicorn Gives Back ... blog hop ...

Every year in the month of November, Flying Unicorn sponsors "Flying Unicorn Gives Back."

This year, we've chosen a nationally recognized charity, Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.

For each project that is uploaded to our forum gallery, Flying Unicorn donates $1.00 to a maximum of $1,000 and. we've always reached our goal.

With your help this year we will again.! Flying Unicorn also donates 5% of all sales during the month of November to the charity.

Finally, do not forget to mark your calendars for our Silent Auction November 8th - November 16th . We have set up the Flying Unicorn page on the Best Friends site where monetary donations can be made as well to help us reach this year's goal of $3000.00 in charitable donations.

Best Friends' mission of No More Homeless Pets tries to place dogs and cats who are considered "unadoptable" into good homes, and to reduce the number of unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs. Since its inception, the number of dogs and cats being destroyed in shelters has fallen to approximately 5 million a year. There has been much progress, but there is still much more to do. Best Friends made national headlines with
their intensive efforts in rescuing so many animals in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

Dream ...

It's my turn to share one of my Flying Unicorn creations today and as you can see I've whipped up a canvas, aptly titled 'dream'.

A dream of mine for many years to one day see, in real life, the Eiffel Tower.

Let me share my creative process for putting this canvas together and trust me on this one, it's not difficult.

Let's go ... I've liberally applied gesso all over the front of my canvas and even splatted a little along the sides of the canvas as well.

I could say that I strategically placed cos it sounds better, but I didn't really, I really did 'splat'. I've torn pieces of paper from a 6x6 paper pad and for this canvas I have used a selection of papers from the Authentique 'Cherish' paper pad.

Using a little more of that gesso underneath and over the top of those torn papers to adhere everything.

Now it's a case of watching and waiting for it all to dry.

In my case, my patience is ummmmmmmmmmmm perhaps a little lacking, so I grabbed my heat gun and went to work.

When you are wanting to play a little and dabble with gesso and pastes and inks, who wants to sit and wait for everything to dry, come on, let's be honest. We want to play and we want to play now. Sounds good to me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I've then grabbed my clock stencil and modeling paste and randomly applied clock shapes and I have to say, I did actually let this dry naturally, just for a change.

Next up a few squirts using the Fireworks mists ... OMG, these wee bottles are so adorable.

another shot ...

On this canvas I've used Angel Pink and Bamboo Leaves and I love them both together. That heat gun had another work out ... had to keep everything flowing girls ... as you do.

I've then used a Kaisercraft acrylic stamp and randomly stamped the image here and there over the top of my canvas. And I truly do mean that ... definitely random!!! Random is good.

I've pulled together a collection of embellishments and some more papers and then I've layered and layered and layered some more.

Before I started 'sticking' everything down I decided I needed to add a little something else and so I used a little of the sticky mesh that has been around for years, no idea what it is called and I've applied a little more modeling paste here and there on some of my paper layers.

Then I went for it with the hot glue gun and liberally applied hot glue to hold everything together and as you can see, I've tucked in a few baubles here and there [well you will see them later on the close ups]. I like to add bitsers of this and that.

The Petaloo flowers I've used were originally white, but I've snaffled a paint brush and dabbed more of the Angel Pink mist over the top and then with my finger I've dabbed on a little more modeling paste here and there.

Last but not least, I found a piece of rub on with the word 'dream' and ta da ... one 'dream' canvas done and dusted.

and some close ups of the completed canvas ...

here we go with another one ... gosh, I love these colours together, one of the many colour combos that I like playing with ...

and just one more ... promise ...

ta da ...

From the Flying Unicorn store you can find all these gorgeous scrapping supplies [and a whole lot more] ...

Authentique 'Cherish' paper pad
Web weave ribbon
Web weave ribbon - black
Petaloo flowers
Clocks template
Fireworks Angel Pink spray
Fireworks Bamboo Leaves spray

I guess it would be fair to say, sometimes dreams do come true.

Never give up on them.

Now if you are looking for a little inspiration or perhaps a whole lot of inspiration to jump start your next creation, how about popping in and saying 'hi-de-hi' to everyone on the forum at Flying Unicorn.

So much talent and inspiration there and the girls truly are a friendly bunch.

Mojo ...

Before I headed away on holiday I had a few wee projects to put together and this layout was one of them.

I was on Mojo Monday duties with the girls at Flying Unicorn while I was away.

And I used this sketch as inspiration ...

to put this layout together ...

actually this layout turned out just a little askew and unbalanced, but I quite like how it turned out and I can live with it ... looking at it now, the main part of my layout should have come down another inch ... must have moved it a wee tad before I got busy with the adhesive ...

and it goes without saying that you were always going to see a close up ... or perhaps two of them ...

and here's the other close up ...

Don't forget to visit the forum at Flying Unicorn and check out this week's Mojo Monday sketch ... it's a pearler of a sketch.

Don't be shy.

Happy creating.

Bonjour ...

Oops,

I was on duty on 'post of the day' with the girls at Flying Unicorn before I went on holiday and for some reason this post didn't do its thing on my own blog ... so here it is, albeit a little late.

I thought that I would share a project I put together whilst still on the Kaisercraft contributing team earlier this year.

Using the Bonjour collection – an older release from Kaisercraft, but one that I still love and I seem to keep going back to – it’s just one of those collections that for a long time will be one of my faves.

Let me talk you through my project ...

Take a sheet of 12” x 12” patterned paper

Cut one piece of paper 6” x 11”

Score at 1”, 5”, 6” and 10”

Rotate patterned paper and score again at 1” and 5”

Now you can see that I have rotated my patterned paper so that it is landscape in the next photo.
Cut your score marks one inch along the score – four snips on each side and then place adhesive where I have indicated and as you can see I use double sided tape.

Fold tabs in and fold in to box shape.

Grab a circle punch and punch out a wee smidgen on the front of your box so that it really does look like a pizza box.

I’ve then cut a strip of co-ordinating patterned paper 1 ½” long, used my lace edge doily punch and punched each side and folded the strip around my pizza box and used a small piece of adhesive to join them together underneath.

I’ve cut another thin strip of paper, the same as my pizza box and adhered on to my lace edge strip and then I’ve run a piece of bakers twine around on the strip edge as well.

I’ve traced around one of the Kaiser MDF wooden stars on some patterned paper, run my sanding edge around the star and then inked the edges as well.  I’ve layered muslin underneath my star and on top of my star, grabbed a couple of leaves, some paper blooms, tags and pins and using my hot glue gun have glued everything down on the strip.

This band can then slide on and off as required.

Here’s another photo to show where I have used my circle punch to punch out that wee smidgen of paper that I talked about earlier.

Using another co-ordinating paper I have made an envelope starting with a piece of paper 5”x 5” using my score board.

I’ve run an ink pad around the edges of the envelope, cut out another star, glued on a little muslin, a tag, my star and punched out some butterflies as well and glued them to the front of my envelope.

I’ve cut a small piece of cardstock and made a card, once again using a little Baker’s twine, some muslin and a punched butterfly.    I’ve tried to keep using the same supplies all the way through to tie my project together.

I needed to keep this card flat embellishment-wise, otherwise it would not have fitted into my wee envelope.

Here’s a wee peek inside my mini pizza box ... and you can see in this pic that I have straightened my Baker’s twine, my apologies for not picking up on that in earlier photos.

Just like that, one card, one envelope and one mini pizza box for a special friend.

All I need to do now, is buy a voucher and pop it inside as well.
Happy creating everybody.

Did ya miss me ...

Yep, I'm back ... six weeks overseas and now I'm back home and back in the saddle, so to speak. Man alive did that time fly by. Everything is now unpacked, clothing all washed, ironed and put away. I'm back to work, back to doing housework and I'm back to playing a little with all those crafty supplies that seem to accumulate in my scrap room. And boy-oh-boy have I missed being creative. Today I had a little play with a canvas and gesso and sprays and my hot glue gun and I have to say, I had forgotten just how much a hot glue gun can hurt all that tender skin on my fingers ... didn't take long to remember just how much it hurts either, just quietly. I now have a couple of tender fingers. Yee-ouch. Anyway ... I'm back!!!!!!!!!!! Still have to download, upload, do something with thousands of photos ... but these things take time. CYA M

How about another one ...

Hi there and welcome back. Yep, I'm on a roll. I realised that I hadn't shared this layout - another one ... White, green and orang...
