Altered wooden block

'Seaside Girl', the latest release from the team at Couture Creations is available now - if it's not available at your local stockist, it should be.

I'm back to share a little creativity using this brand new release.

Let me show you my altered block.

I have run the edge of my chocolate sprinkles stamp pad around the edges of the wooden block.

I've used papers from the 12x12" paper collection and cut squares of patterned paper, inked around the edges with a small brown ink pad and adhered to each side of the wooden block.

To go with the beachy theme of the papers I added beach shells, pearls, mixed media stones, muslin, gesso, tucked in a few die cuts from the ephemera pack, cut out the birds and popped them in amongst the beachy collection of bits as well.

I found a quote and made a small wall hanging for one side of the cube.

I grabbed a ball of twine and made a net to hang over the side and edges of the wooden block.

Found some rub ons for the top and bottom edge of this side, cut out two anchors and adhered them together for a little more sturdiness before adhering to the top of the edge of the netting.

Another few close ups of the beachy embellishment cluster.

Close up to show that I have adhered pearls to the base of my altered box.

And again in its entirety.

An oldie ...

Recently I was asked about a project I put together quite some time ago.

I dug deep and found the instructions, so let me share them with you.

And now the instructions and how to cut and sizes.

A close up of some of the panels.

I've cut out doily shapes and used them whole or cut them in half and I have also cut lacey edge strips for the skinny panels.

A few butterflies, a little bling, a little muslin, some smallish flowers and voila.

A side on view of the card folded and with a belly band around it.

A belly band for me is always trial and error.  I cut, fold, score and score some more until it fits just nicely around my card.

Measurements will always differ depending on the embellishments that you have used - when you fold your card up, you definitely don't want to squash the inside.

All closed up.

I then made a box to pop it in ... and now it's all ready for gifting.

And again in its entirety - because I can.

In fact I loved this card and box when I first put t together, it must be time to make something similar again.

Happy crafting my friends.

Until next time, keep warm and dry.

Whimsical Notions

 Hi everyone and welcome back.

It's good to see you and can I say a big thank you for visiting my little ol' blog in blogland.

Admittedly my blog posting has been somewhat intermittent of late - life kinda got in the way really - but I really will try to blog more often ... promise!

Today let me share with you a new project featuring the gorgeous 'Whimsical Notions' card collection from the team at 3Quarter Designs.

There is a 12x12 scrapbooking collection to keep the avid scrapbookers happy and a card collection to keep all the cardmakers and other paper crafters happy.

Let me share.

I've made a mini folder/tag album.

Side view ...

The inside ...

Looking down on the inside ...

The tags ...

Let's begin ... and before you start to cut anything, please read through the instructions so that you know in your own mind how everything is put together.

Measurements :

Cardstock - cut one piece of cardstock 2" x 12".

Score at 3", 3.5", 4", 4.5", 5", 5.5", 6", 6.5", 7", 10" and 10.5".

Patterned paper

4 x 3"
2 x 0.5" [i.e., 1/2"]
2 x 1.5" [i.e., 1 and a 1/2"]

Note : you will need to cut just a sliver off one end of the inside panels - just to allow a clean edge just before each fold - does that make sense ... so that it folds neatly and doesn't catch.

Now you will also need to cut the following :

Cardstock - cut one piece 2" x 1.75" [i.e., 1 and 3/4"]

Patterned paper - cut one piece 2" x 1.75" [i.e., 1 and 3/4"]

Adhere to each other and leave aside until you have covered the album in its entirety with patterned paper..

I have cut four lace edge paper strips - you could use real lace, or you might wish to keep the lace edge out altogether - I have adhered to the inside of the cardstock album before putting the patterned paper on.  It was easier to use a thin line of wet glue for this.

Now using the cut panels of patterned paper, ink around the edges and then adhere to the album - I used double sided tape.

Easy peasy.

Now adhere the final patterned paper panel on this piece of cardstock and by looking at the photo below you will adhere to the edge of the front left hand side so that it sits level or flush with the inside of the concertina thingymajig.  Gently curve this panel around to the back of the album and adhere to the back, flush with the inside of the concertina thingymajig.

Just remember to do this part after you have put on all the rest of the patterned paper panels.

Hope you all understand that.

I have a small file folder die that I run through my die cutting machine.

Score, fold and make up four folders.  Ink and adhere to the concertina edges of the album.

Make four tags and add quotes, sentiments or photos [or whatever], punch tags and tie twine and insert into your folders.

Cut another piece of twine - my piece was 26" so that I could wrap it around my album twice and tie into a bow.

Voila - you are now done and dusted.

Thank you for swinging by.

Happy crafting.

Until next time,

How about another one ...

Hi there and welcome back. Yep, I'm on a roll. I realised that I hadn't shared this layout - another one ... White, green and orang...
