WCYDW ...

Every Wednesday, one of the girls on the Flying Unicorn Creative Team shows you a new technique, a tutorial, how to use something, make something.

And you guessed it ... it's my turn this week, today actually.

Ta da - a home decor project and my base is a tin milk can.

I've used the gorgeous Inkido papers - 6x6 Forever Collection No. 4

I've cut two sections of the 6x6 paper and I've used the butterfly/writing as my main paper.

I've cut two strips of apricot stripe paper, one strip 1 1/2" wide and another strip, 1" wide.  I've used a lacy edge doily punch, curled or lifted the punched edge gently with my finger tips.

I've then sewn my two strips to my feature 6x6 paper.

I've sprinkled a mixture of steel blue crushed glass glitter, shabby blue embossing enamel and shabby white embossing enamel on a diagonal across my paper.

I've used my heat gun by heating the mixture from underneath my paper until it has melted and it really does melt together.

Papers have been modge podged to the milk can itself and the milk can now looks like this.

The top of the milk can has been gesso'd, then painted with Ayeeda Matte paint, dried, then I've used Ayeeda medium and sprinkled a combination of Diamond Dust, seed beads and crushed glass glitter around the top of the milk can.

I've cut two strips of paper, punched the edge and adhered to the bottom outside edge of the lid with modge podge.

The milk can now looks like this ...

Now it's time to play a little with some embellishments.

Using Ayeeda Matt Raspberry paint, I have dab painted a Prima wooden heart and key and sprinkled Ayeeda Powder 3D glass filler and a little shabby blue embossing enamel on the top.

I've used a heat gun, this time heating from the top, not having any idea what to expect, but I have to say, I quite like the finished effect.

I've grabbed some twine and tied the heart and key together and adhered to one of my handles.

A little muslin and two Manorhouse Creations vines have been adhered to the front of the milk can.

I've tied a blackboard wooden heart to the neck of the milk can.

a few close ups ...

On the lid, I have adhered a little more of the vine, some wire beading, a craft cotton reel and a bird.

I've then randomly dabbed a little gesso here and there

and just like that ...

voila!!!

Mine ...

It's not very often these days that I get pics of the kids together and so when I do, they are precious.

Living at opposite ends of the country, they don't see each other on a regular basis.

N went to Auckland late last year when his year at uni finished ...

I kept saying before they met up, don't forget to take pics for me.

They did ... some cheeky shots that they knew would have their Mother ranting.

But then they took this one ... and I was more than a little happy.

and that close up that you knew you were going to see ... a little layering going on

and this photo was scrapped using the fabulous contents of the January kit from Flying Unicorn

Happy creating everyone.
Wrap up warm and batten down the hatches, Mother Nature has forgotten to flick the heat switch in my part of the world.

Treasure box ...

This paper would have to be the most gorgeous paper I have seen in a long time.

Have to say that I just wanted to stare at it.

Didn't want to cut into it ... just wanted to stare.

Rather strange really.

Hasn't happened for a while.

But in the end, I decided to take the scissors and the cutting thingymajig to it and go for it.

A wee round cylindrical treasure box for want of a better term for it ... the lid completely lifts off and you could tuck a wee treasure or two inside and gift it to someone.  Or, you could keep it for yourself ... hmmmmmmmmmm ... decisions, decisions, decisions.

My wee treasure box - made using the January monthly kit from the team at Flying Unicorn.

If you are looking for a monthly kit - Alda at Flying Unicorn puts together the most amazing kit ... don't be lagging though come release time ... they quite literally walk out the door.

Happy creating everyone.

Time to play a little ...

It's no secret that I love to play with paper.  Sometimes I really do just play.

I whipped up this tag, the base of which was from an empty packet from the January kit from Flying Unicorn - waste not, want not!!!

Just about everything else came from the kit as well, with just a few things coming from my stash.

I've also used a Memory Box clock die and stamp - now I've had them for a while, trust me on this one, they were buried in my craft room, but I found them while looking for something else.

Maggi currently has a 'pop it up' challenge in the forum and this too has a whole lot of  'pop it up' going on.

Now have a closer look at my tag ... there's lots of flower clusters and here and there, there are a few handmade flowers as well.

I'm going to share how I made them ...

Cut out, die cut or punch out numerous flowers.  You are going to need a set of three different sizes for each flower, although sometimes, I do only use two to make a flower.

I distress the edges using one of those fabulous distressing tools which Alda has in the store.

Now I've got a set of three flowers - snip into the middle of the largest and leave it.

The next slightly smaller flower, cut out the triangle in the bottom left hand side flower.

The smallest flower in your set, cut out a double petal portion as in the bottom right hand side flower.

Nothing difficult, easy peasy.

Not grab your glue and put a dab of glue on one of petals beside one of the edges that you have snipped, the lift a petal over the top and hold until it sticks.

Sometimes I distress the edges a little more here before I do anything else.

Now grab some muslin [cheese cloth].  You can't go wrong with muslin ... I truly just rip it apart, pull and pull some more.

That edge piece in the circle around my flowers in the next photo, that's the edge piece of the muslin. Now I grab a pair of scissors and cut a portion of that, wrap it around in a circle and glue that under my hand made flowers, to build another layer.

Working with the largest flower as your base ... dab a little glue in the middle, place a small piece of muslin, another dab of glue, layer another flower, another dab of glue, another piece of muslin and then glue on your top flower, another smaller piece of muslin and then glue on a pearl.

And you guessed it, you always need more than one flower to make a cluster.

I searched through my stash and found some other wee baubles that I also use - the flower stamens work a treat as well.

These papers were all in Flying Unicorn's January kit of the month ...

I found some black Petaloo flowers in my stash, a little bling and then layered them.

Love the way these wee treasures turned out.

And that tag again ...

Voila!!!!

And yes, there is a whole lot of corrugated cardboard underneath those layers the clock and the flower clusters.

Giving it a bit of height.

And it makes layering your flowers a whole lot easier.

Happy creating everyone.

oops ... forgot to share ...

I love the way this card came together.

A little distressing, a little layering, a little hand sewing ...

A little more layering, a little modelling paste, a few flowers

and voila ...

and whipped up using the January kit from Flying Unicorn.

How about another one ...

Hi there and welcome back. Yep, I'm on a roll. I realised that I hadn't shared this layout - another one ... White, green and orang...
