It's a Ballroom Blitz!: SBTRKT & Ezra Koenig - "NEW DORP, NEW YORK" (Young Turks)

The mysterious masked London -based producer has been hinting at the follow-up to his critically-acclaimed self-titled 2011 LP for quite some time now and recently released a series of mid-album Transitions EP's . Wonder Where We Land will see a wide release on Young Turks this forthcoming September 22-23rd; SBTRKT has recruited his frequent collaborators Sampha and Jessie Ware along with Chairlift songstress Caroline Polachek , A$AP Ferg, Warpaint , Denai Moore, Koreless , Raury, and Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig . The aforementioned Koenig-featuring track, "NEW DORP, NEW YORK," serves as the album's lead/teaser single; it's a weirdly fitting modern mash-up of Post-Dubstep break-beats and a slightly re-tooled infamous line cherry-picked from "Ballroom Blitz" (...

"About a year and half ago, [Heems] sent me a bunch of Bollywood tracks he wanted to sample. I'd take the tracks and chop them up on my MPC and then just let them fuck around until we'd found something we liked... "Michael Jackson" was originally an entirely different song. Right after we made the beat, the guys rapped on it and then it just sat in our vault for about 8 months. The next time we listened to it, we decided to trash all the verses and put the newly-written ["Mike"] hook on it. Then they wrote the final verses. We were working on that track off and on for almost an entire year. Chairlift Craft Something Weirdly Interesting for "Amanaemonesia"

I bet that many of you may be fairly familiar with Chairlift and don't even know it. For example, the Boulder, CO Synth Pop group's 2008 track, "Bruises" was used in one of the initial iPod Nano [Chromatic] commercials. Chairlift have been noticeably inactive since the release of their debut long-player, Does You Inspire You? (2008) and lost a founding member, Aaron Pfenning - Now in pursuit of a solo career as "REWARDS." Chairlift 's remaining 2 members have also been focusing on a number of side-efforts, as of late: Songstress Caroline Polachek appeared on Washed Out 's recent lead single, "You and I," in addition to Popular tracks from Flosstradamus and Acrylics .
