Behind The Beat, Vol. 2 Part 1: Homeboy Sandman & Aesop Rock Producer @m_slago Speaks On His "Panacea" Beat Contribution from TRIPLE FAT LICE EP (The Witzard Twitter-view)

@SharpCheddar856: Hey what's up, M Slago? How's it going? How did get involved with Aesop Rock & Homeboy Sandman's latest TRIPLE FAT LICE EP, man? I know you produced Sandman's All That I Hold Dear a few years back (phenomenal record, might I add!) @m_slago: Let me get to a laptop and I'll start answering questions to avoid (some) typos lol. SC: No worries, man! I'm gonna go jump in the shower, but I'll be back momentarily... just send whatever you think may be interesting and useful. Thanks! m_s: Much thanks on the [All That I Hold Dear] props. Homeboy Sandman and I met back in '09 and have been doing joints together, since The Good Sun . When Aesop Rock & Boy Sand were touring during the first Lice release, I met Aesop for the first time, here in Dallas, at their show. We talked lightly about future work and other things... and "Panacea" is the result. SC: Oh OK, nice! So, you're one of Homeboy Sandman's initial pr...

The Witzard Presents: Behind The Beat (Part 2) Homeboy Sandman & Aesop Rock's Lice 2: Still Buggin' EP "Mud" Producer SOBER MINDED MUSIC (Jobe of The Outliers)

" Boy Sand contacted me last week saying that Lice 2 [Still Buggin'] was dropping this week and my "Mud" track would be Track #4; he then swore me to secrecy. This will be the third song of mine released that Sand has blessed. I also did "Grand Pupa" from the 2014 Hallways album and "There It Is" from the 2015 Tour Tape . I've been sending him beats for about 6 or 7 years. I was first introduced to his music through the Good Son album, which is a classic. I was participating in a Best Albums of The Year list on Illmuzik.com and one member mentioned his name and that album in particular. I contacted him and he responded right back. Ever since then, we've communicated. I'm always grateful for the opportunity, because [Homeboy Sandman] actually does listen to all the beats you send to him. He really doesn't have to do that. Actually, when we first started corresponding, he would comment on every beat I sent and I ...

Stones Throw Announces Sharp-tongued Emcee Homeboy Sandman's Third Full-length, Kindness for Weakness; Unleashes Edan-produced "Talking (Bleep)"

It appears as though reclusive early 2000's rapper, producer, and cold-cuttin' DJ Edan has finally decided to re-emerge from his self-imposed sabbatical and unleash his first batch of new material since 2009's "Echo Party" mixtape; Edan recently contributed production work to old sharp-tongued friend Mr. Lif 's long-awaited comeback single of sorts, "Whizdom," as well as Homeboy Sandman 's newly unveiled Kindness for Weakness album teaser, "Talking (Bleep)." Sandman 's latest Stones Throw Drip can likely best be described as a Hip-Hop -laden amalgamation of pop culture's beloved, often over-used "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH" filler phrasing for drab, long-winded, unnecessary, etc. conversation we're often subjected to throughout our every day lives – be it Ke$ha 's chart-topping No.1 single, Charlie Brown & The Peanuts' "WAH, WAH, WAH" diction substituted for adults talking, or Seinfeld prota...

Underground Emcees Homeboy Sandman & Aesop Rock Partner Up to Generously Spread "Lice" EP Across The World (Stones Throw/Rhymesayers)

Earlier this fine post- Thanksgiving Weekend morning, whilst I was at Boscov's getting my new suit pants tailored, I had a sudden burst of creativity in the form of a clever one-liner to start a tentative review of Animal Collective 's cringe-worthy mess of a new single, "FloriDada:" "There's an age-old music industry joke that goes something along the lines of, "if Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke recorded the sounds of himself sh*tting or farting into a mic backed by the band's music, people would likely still buy it.'" But rather than give those talent-less Art-Rock Three Stooges any more unnecessary spotlight, I've instead decided to review veteran underground emcees Homeboy Sandman & Aesop Rock 's far more noteworthy surprise-released Cyber Monday FREE EP, Lice . "You're probably scratching your head right now wondering why this EP is called Lice ... The truth is, [Aesop Rock] and I always have all these ide...

Spray Paint & Ink Pens: Aesop Rock - "Zero Dark Thirty" (Block Block Chop)

Honestly, the only primary element missing from "Zero Dark Thirty" is pre-choreographed breaking [breakdancing]. But collaborators Aesop Rock , Coro , and Isaac Ravishankara really managed to do a pretty good job incorporating a few other Golden Age Hip-Hop elements: between that hard-hitting Boom-Bap rhythm, intricate lyrical pattern, and stop motion graffiti art backdrop. Comfortably seated on the ground, Aesop Rock laments about "brown grass both sides" and "sugar skulls in the rain," amongst other quote-ables. Coro simultaneously proceeds to paint and un-paint a series of beautiful/sinister graffiti pieces on the blank wall directly behind him. While Skelethon (July 10th) is Aesop Rock 's first solo release in nearly 5 years, he's remained far from silent during this "Lost Weekend" period... contributing to a wide array of side projects: Felt , The Uncluded , Hail Mary Mallon , Nike+iPod, 900 Bats , Jeremy Fish, etc. Skeleth...
