Sam Redmore Shares Instrumental Cumbia Cover of Giorgio Moroder's "Tears" In Homage to DJ Shadow's "Organ Donor" (Jalapeno Records)

DJ Shadow expertly sampled boat-loads of artists including everyone from Metallica to Björk across his 1996 break-out debut, Endtroducing..... On an album full of stand-outs and fan favorites, "Organ Donor" has stood the test of time and gradually become a cult classic over the course of the past 26 years. Shadow painstakingly built the track upon samples of Giorgio Moroder's "Tears" from Son of My Father (1972,) The New Breed Feat. Tim & Bill's "Someone" B-side to "Little Bit A Soul" (1967,) and Samson & Delilah's "There's A DJ In Your Town" (1969.) Instrumentally covering the sample source or original track interpolated has become a thing in recent years, as well, so bands, such as Japanese Jazz Fusion trio NAUTILUS have covered "Tears" in tribute to both DJ Shadow & Giorgio Moroder. Birmingham, UK-based DJ, musician, multi-instrumentalist, and Jalapeno Records signee is the latest to take a cr...

Japanese Jazz Fusion Trio Nautilus Return with DJ Shadow/Giorgio Moroder & The Stylistics-flipping "Tears" 7-inch (Palette Records)

Tokyo Jazz trio Nautilus have returned with an exclusive Europe-only limited edition release of their latest 7-inch single, "Tears" B/W "People Make The World Go Round." Yes, you read that right: Toshiyuki Sasaki, Daisuke Takeuchi & Shigeki Umezawa have effectively decided to record and release a mind-bending cover of DJ Shadow 's "Organ Donor" from Entroducing..... (1996) as well as one of the songs in which it samples, "Tears" from Giorgio Moroder 's 1972 album, Son of My Father. Then, on Side B, Nautilus have expertly flipped "People Make The World Go Round" from The Stylistics' self-titled Avco Records debut, also, released during 1972. I, actually, first heard about "Tears" through DJ Oonops , whose label, Agogo Records has previously released Nautilus' two most recent Beastie Boys & A Tribe Called Quest-flipping singles; "Massive thanks to Nautilus from Japan for their brand new 4...

Daft Punk, Pharrell & Nile Rodgers - "Lose Yourself to Dance" (Soul Train 2013?)

Pharrell was quite arguably the undisputed hit-making champion of Summer 2013; having his hand in chart-topping mega-hits like "Blurred Lines," "Get Lucky," and "Burgundy." Over the past 10-12 years, Pharrell has effortlessly transformed from a relatively in-demand producer/ N*E*R*D frontman to a viable Hip-Hop-R&B hookman and he's most recently become Daft Punk 's pseudo-lead singer, more or less. "Lose Yourself to Dance" has been slowing picking up steam since it's radio/online release back in August. It's one of 2 devilishly smooth Funk -based Random Access Memories (RAM) cuts that feature Pharrell and Chic bassist Nile Rodgers , along with founding members Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo & Thomas Bangalter , of course. Pharrell stated in a recent interview that the track "makes [him] feel like waking down the street in the middle of the night in London and it's 1984, 1985," elaborating that ...

The Boys Are Back!: Daft Punk, Pharrell & Nile Rodgers - "Get Lucky" (Coachella Teaser)

Spearheaded by a guerrilla-style video "performance" that was broadcast @ Coachella late Friday night, the robot helmeted men behind Daft Punk have finally revealed some concrete info about their upcoming album, Random Access Memories . Eager fans rushed to pull out their cell phone cameras as a 2-minute teaser clip for "Get Lucky" with Pharrell and Nile Rodgers flashed on-screen; about 1 minute+ worth of shaky video was haphazardly captured by a few tech-savvy concert go-ers. It also revealed Daft Punk 's genre-blending list of friends-collaborators: Julian Casablancas , Panda Bear, Giorgio Moroder , Paul Williams, Chilly Gonzales , DJ Falcon, and Todd Edwards . Rolling Stone then posted fragmented pieces of a featured article/interview, which will most likely be released to coincide with Random Access Memories (May 20-21st). Funnyman Aziz Ansari soon Tweeted , "Can anyone confirm the rumored Daft Punk show at the Palm Springs Chuck E Cheese ? #C...
