One of the fun things about these old syndicated radio shows is songs never released by the artist.  In the case of Tommy Tutone, there's a power-poppish cover of Cat Stevens' "Wild World," and on the David Lindley set, a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Rattlesnake Shake."  (I've now discovered there's a live download of "Wild World" available at Amazon, released just a few years ago....but at the time, this live show was the only release of the Tutone version...)

The announcer was David Perry, who was a disc jockey on Southern California radio stations (KWST, 1975-76; KMET, 1976-82; KLOS, 1984; KHTZ (Texas), 1985; KMET, 1986-87; KLSX (Phoenix AZ), 1989-92).

The group was founded on democratic principles – there was no "leader". They soon began performing live in clubs, winning a recording contract with Epic Records. The first single, "Please", was released in December 1966. It was produced by Barry Friedman (later known as Frazier Mohawk), as was their first album Side Trips, released in June 1967. The album showcased the group’s musical diversity and studio experimentation. It included Feldthouse's "Egyptian Gardens", Darrow’s "Keep Your Mind Open", and versions of Cab Calloway's "Minnie the Moocher" and Dock Boggs' "Oh Death". Crill, for reasons he never made clear (but ex-bandmates speculated had to do with concerns about overreactions from his "straitlaced" parents), was credited as "Fenrus Epp" on the first album and adopted various other pseudonyms on later recordings.
Between them, the group played a huge collection of stringed instruments in such psychedelic songs as "Egyptian Gardens" and "Pulsating Dream." They played fusions of Middle-Eastern music with rock in longer pieces such as "Taxim," which they performed live at the Berkeley Folk Festival on July 4, 1967.

Jackson Browne / Superstars In Concert CO 89-27

I've digitized a half dozen or so of these Superstars In Concert shows, and this one has more music than usual.  On all of the prior shows, the music easily fit on an 80 minute CD, with room to spare. This Jackson Browne show is several minutes too long to fit on one CD, even if leave out the the show intro, outro and all of the breaks.

Browne is joined by David Lindley, who plays some nice slide guitar on this one.

(.... and there's a certain irony in hearing Mr. Browne sponsored by the U.S. Army Reserve.  :)  

NOTE:  I've seen this show reposted on other websites, attribued to  "Shoreline Amphitheater."  I do not know if that is correct; at no time during this show do they refer to where the show was recorded. There is a DIFFERENT Westwood One show (86-E) that was from Shoreline,  but this is not that show.  They may be right... both shows may have been recorded at Shoreline, but there's nothing in the original syndicated broadcast that indicates that's true.

"Oh Death" is a creepy song--but well worth the reflections of Lindley's fears and worries about the topic.   Besides, the guy is a ferocious steel pedal player in the business.
