I found a newspaper article that mention the recording at T.T. The Bear's the following night.

I also added an article on Living Colour from Spin magazine from 1989.  It's not the right year but from the perspective of 2026 it seemed okay to me.  I also included an article on black radio that mentioned Living Colour.

Another tape I got in trade back in the 1990s.  This isn't sourced from the original 1979 show, but from a later broadcast.  Based on the announcer's comments, my guess is it was from a few years after the Jam called it quits in December 1982.

I have this marked as "1st Generation" and sounds like it, it's a great sounding show. My original cassette didn't have a date, it was noted as "4/79."  A quick look at Newspapers.com proves the date was April 12th, 1979.

I found a review from the Boston Globe saying the Jam were originally booked at the Orpheum (capacity 2,700) but were downsized into the Paradise (capacity 933) due to "anemic ticket sales."  The Jam were touring their third LP, "All Mod Cons (released November 1978)," and were about to become the biggest band in England, inspiring a revitalized Mod subculture and dozens of imitators. 

In America, they were headed for cult status.  They'd just released "Strange Town," a non-LP single a month earlier in March.  It didn't chart here. In my opinion, their two best albums lay ahead of them (Setting Sons (1979), Sound Affects(1980)), but they weren't destined to burn up the U.S. charts.

Besides the review of the show, I included an article on the change in the Massachusetts drinking age, which was rising from 18 to 20, and how this would specifically impact New Wave bands.  While it has nothing to do with the Jam, it was probably on the minds of a lot of people at the show.  If you were 18 or 19 and the show had taken place a week later, you would not have been able to attend.  

What was the drinking age where you lived at the time?  Here in California it was 21.  Most night club shows were 21 and up, so we couldn't attend them.

I've confirmed the date, and the review from the Boston Globe tells us this was the late show. The review didn't think much of the early set, writing, "He seemed to be saving himself for the radio broadcast of his later show."

The adjectives and nouns weren't any better: cold and dispassionate, nihilism and pornography.

I happened to like that first LP quite a lot, and unfortunately missed seeing the band when they played San Francisco, so I'm happy to ignore the review.
