Well folks, I think it's time I give you an update on why I have been away so long. You see me and some old high school buddies recently got our old band back together. We have been hitting the Holiday Inn, school prom, Golden Corral circuit. If we have not yet been to your town, hold on cause we are coming. We've got an advertising campaign that can't miss. We've taken ads out on radio and T.V. The thing is we change our band name constantly. For instance tonight in Vaughn New Mexico we are billing ourselves as The Temptations now you may ask yourself how in the fuck can they get away with that? Well after consulting with our lawyers we've been assured we are not breaking any copyright laws. You see I happen to have a turtle-neck sweater that once belonged to David Ruffin. At a show many years ago David was on a crack binge when he came out on stage and started to undress. Before he could get his speedo off he was tossing his clothes out into the audience (Goddammit the old lady next to me got one of his Stacey Adams) An alert roadie whisked him off the stage but not before I wrestled away the black turtle-neck from some little kid. According to our lawyer as long as I wear the turtle-neck we can call ourselves The Temptations. Tomorrow in Moscow Idaho we are billing ourselves as AC/DC as our guitar player caught a guitar pick thrown into the crowd by Angus. And once again as long as our guitarist uses this pick we can't be sued. We will also be billing ourselves as The Rolling Stones seeing as how our drummer has a drumstick that he caught when Charlie threw it into the crowd. Our bass player has a pair of panties that were thrown onstage at an Elvis concert and The King proceeded to wipe the sweat off his brow with said panties then return them to the crowd to which our bass player was right place right time. The only problem when we bill ourselves as Elvis Presley is the bass player has to wear the panties on the outside of his leather pants (he hates that) So look for us shortly coming to your town. We have no original members of the band we are representing that night but we have something that they once owned or touched. Just like any of the other sham bands that own the rights to the group name but have no one from the original band THEY REPRESENT.  See scans

You know we've been at this thing for 5 years?  6 years?  or is it more? or is it less? I'm sure The Boss will chide me for not knowing. Well...I wonder where the group of us rank as far as legendary blog sites go. Are we up there with the likes of Williard, Nargo, Big O, Burning Wood, Hear Rock City or Guitars 101? or are we down there with the blogs like, Toilet's I Have Known, Spewing Cock Shit, Pictures From My Yellowstone Vacation, The Correct Uses Of Shovels? Either way like some of the above mentioned blogs, we are at a disadvantage due to the fact we only post boots (well at least on this page.) As you are fully aware there are only so many bootleg recordings but all of us try seeking them out when requested. wacocrimatty you are one of the reasons I keep doing this, thanks as always for the great things you say about us. Another reason I do this is because of The Boss himself, even though I have never met him face to face I do speak with him about this time every year by phone and believe me this guy's passion for music has no limitations. Athens, GA – ATO Records will reissue the Drive-By Truckers’ Alabama Ass Whuppin’ on September 10, 2013. Alabama Ass Whuppin’ is the band’s third album. Originally released in 2000, the record has been out of print for years. The album has been re-mastered and includes updated artwork by Wes Freed. This will also be the first time the album has been available on vinyl.

Alabama Ass Whuppin’ documents a specific time for the band. Recorded from March 1999 through August of 2000 in clubs across the southeast including Tasty Word, The High Hat, The Star Bar, The Caledonia Lounge and the 40 Watt.

“This was our third album and the connecting thread between our earlier work and the band that we went on to become later. It’s a documentation of a period in time that I wouldn’t go back to for all the money in the world, but I’m proud of the shows that we played and the songs that we wrote, “ says Patterson Hood.

ATO Records will re-release the record September 10, 2013.

A live recording featuring a great collection of punk-based country rock. This is some stomping, driving music, with an urgency not heard in most alt-country. Patterson Hood's raspy vocals perfectly fit the music, and the warm guitar sound dominates. Since this is a live album, the songs incorporate some extended bluesy jams. The performance is staggering enough to elicit the drunken shouts for "More!" at the end of the album. The punk roots of the band are evident, most explicitly in the Jim Carroll cover on track 11. "Steve McQueen" is a rousing tribute to a childhood hero, which segues into "Gimme Three Steps" and back again. "The Avon Lady" is an improvised tale of a neighbor who's a tad overzealous in the pushing of make-up products. "Margo & Harold," a song about how people grow weirder with each passing year, also does the service of explaining the title. The most powerful track on the disc is "The Living Bubba," a plaintive cry from a musician dying of AIDS, needing just a little more time to live as he's "got another show." The drunken pyschobilly is what gives the compositions their energy and momentum, but it is songs like this one which gives the album its power. Great stuff.
