Brought to you by the Collective For Live Music
Includes the cue and promo sheets.

The cue sheet says this was recorded in "upstate New York." Bill Minkin just says "live in New York."  At the start of "Ready To Rock" the singer says "it's New York, the rock capital of the U.S.A." That's something you say in New York City, not in Albany, so I suspected the "upstate New York" claim might be wrong.

Concert Vault lists a show from New York City, January 7, 1985.  Concert Vault does not name a venue.  I've compared the tracks and it's the same concert. That gives us a city and a date.
Setlist.fm has the venue as the Palladium.

I was unable to find proof confirming this, such as a ticket, poster, print ad, or concert review, but for now, it's the best we can do.

I was unable to confirm the commonly attributed date of April 10, 1983 for this show. That date is on Discogs, Setlist.fm, and Concert Archives. I could not find independent confirmation from a primary source such as a newspaper ad or review.  I did find a ticket...but it was ripped in half and you can only make out "83-Sun-7:30 PM"

That's a partial confirmation, as April 10th was a Sunday.

There's also a copy of this attributed to May 23, 1983, which is (once again) the common error mixing up the syndicated broadcast date with the recording date.

We're still trying to track down the name of the band (or artist) on #19.  Who is the mystery Budweiser singer?

UPDATE:  I thought I'd run a search for the Pat Travers portion of the show....and found this...which confirms the April 10th date:  Pat Travers – Going Down To Jacksonville - 1983 – CD (), 2025 [r33770505] | Discogs

Roseanne Cash "Roseanne Cash Live In Cincinnatti"

Yes, "Cincinnatti."  That's the spelling on all three disc labels, the commercial spot affidavit, and the cue sheet.

When I bought this, I thought it was part of Starfleet Blair's Jamboree U.S.A. series. The Jamboree U.S.A. shows are very rare; I've only seen a few turn up on Ebay over the last twenty years.  I've identified 14 shows, and there may be more, but only two show up on Discogs: Janie Frickie and Razzy Bailey. I've included a text file with a list of Starfleet Blair's Jamboree U.S.A. shows sourced from information in Billboard, Cashbox, and Discogs.

I don't believe the Roseanne Cash show was part of that series, in spite of using the same cover. I note that the same cover was used for Pretenders Live At The Santa Monica Civic, and that was a Warner Brothers Music Show.  The cover alone isn't enough to prove that's it's a Jamboree U.S.A. show.

There are other details that don't match. Both the Janie Frickie and Razzy Bailey shows are recorded at the Capitol Music Hall, Wheeling, WV.  The Roseanne Cash show is from Bogarts in Cincinnati, OH.

The Jamboree shows have a yellow sticker on the cover displaying "Razzy Bailey Jamboree U.S.A." and "Janie Frickie Jamboree U.S.A."  The Roseanne Cash show has a silver sticker that says,
"Stroh's and Starfleet Present Roseanne Cash."

The Cash show's Air date of August 3 - August 9, 1981, is a longer window than that listed in Billboard for the Jamboree U.S.A shows; seven days as compared to three days. This window overlaps with the air dates of the Jamboree U.S.A. Johnny Cash show (July 31 - August 2) and Johnny Russell (August 7 - 9).

As for the music, this one's a goldmine.  At the time, "Oh, Yes I Can" was unreleased, turning up on 1982's Somewhere In The Stars.  Crowell's "Seeing Is Believing" wasn't available, and had to wait until 1984's Right Or Wrong before you could buy it.  As far as I can tell, her cover of her father's "Big River" is unreleased to this day, and I don't see a release of what I believe is titled "What Kind Of Girl Am I Really Am."

This digitization MAY 2024, IN STEREO, and corrects the last version, which was MONO.  Posted to the wonderful V-Wagon on November 1st, 2025.  Flac files, plus a Boomtown Rats poster, newspaper ads, and an interview with Saint Bob.

A Flock of Seagulls were recorded on June 19, 1982 at Perkin's Palace, Pasadena.

I found that date on setlist.fm but ran searches to confirm it, and it's correct.  Not only that, but they played three gigs in the Greater Los Angeles area:

June 19 (Saturday) Perkins Palace, Pasadena
June 20 (Sunday) Country Club, Reseda
June 21 (Monday) Laguna Hills Skate Park

Reseda is 26 miles west of Pasadena, Laguna Hills about 75 miles south, down in Orange County.

The Boomtown Rats show was recorded at Rissmiller's on October 24, 1982.

Note that the Discogs entry for IC 83-04 says it was at "The Country Club."  Both names are correct.  The club was also known as the Reseda Country Club, and Wolf & Rissmiller's Country Club.  The print ad for the show proves they were going by the name of "Rissmiller's" at the time, so I'm going with the facts, man.

Other things to note... One of the Budweiser commercials is by A Flock of Seagulls.  I finally decided the Budweiser "blues" version was Buddy Guy.  The other remains unidentified.

Today's Lesson In Rock & Roll Geography:

From The LA Weekly:
"The Reseda Country Club, located on Sherman Way near Reseda Boulevard, has a rich history. Now a church, its notoriety lives on in the film Boogie Nights.

After starting as a Sav-On drug store in the 1950s, the club came together after renowned club owner Chuck Landis (The Roxy, Largo) saw an opportunity to expand into the Valley. When Reseda Country Club opened in 1980 it was billed as a space for country western music — that's where it got its name — but it was originally known for punk and new wave, and then rock and roll.

Celebrated promoter Jim Rissmiller managed the venue until 1984, bringing in top acts like B.B King, Iggy Pop, Roxy Music, Captain Beefheart, Slayer and James Brown. The 1,000 person capacity spot also saw Mick Jagger shoot several music videos there and MTV hold events including a New Year's Eve party and an awards show after-party concert by Prince.

The acoustics were highly praised, and the shows were often sold out. U2 had their first Los Angeles concert there, in March of 1981. But Rissmiller left after becoming depressed following business partner Steve Wolf's murder, leaving Landis to push on alone. He introduced more hard rock and metal acts, and the venue also became home to boxing matches half of the week, dividing its audience."

Six Grateful Dead Hour shows from 1992

Okay, gang, this one is for the completists.  Our pal Sam mailed these to me a few weeks ago.  You can easily find the later CD-r versions of this radio show on Ebay.  These are from when the show was distributed on cassettes.

Given that the Dead have released about ONE BAZILLION HOURS of live music, it's certain that the majority of this is out there on CDs that you can buy in higher quality.

It's noteworthy that host David Gans distributed the early versions of this show on cassette tapes with hand-written labels.

The main reason to grab this is (as mentioned) for completists who want everything.  Hey, I've even included the 1 kHz test tones just for them.  The other reason is there's a couple of interviews and a notice about the Dead cancelling shows due to Jerry Garcia's ill health.

My mom turns 102 in December, and she says, "Don't snort coke when you have a heart condition, and eat your vegetables."

One version from the Sam Eliot's Mustache Collection, the other from Matt's Collection, brought to you by the Collective For Live Music.

While the Guinness Book of Records entry for "Most Isolated Rock Concert Location" goes to Metallica at Carlini Station in Antarctica in 2013, the title was held formerly by this Queensryche show from 1995.  Queensryche performed at the Very Large Array, a radio astronomy observatory in the middle of nowhere.

The Very Large Array

Well, not really the middle of nowhere, but on the Plains of St. Augustin in New Mexico at the Very Large Array. You've seen pictures of this place:  More than two dozen giant radio dishes stretching out in three directions, covering twenty-two miles, picking up the ethereal electromagnetic traces of quasars, pulsars, and black holes. The site was chosen "because of their isolated location away from large population centers, and the partial shielding effect of the surrounding mountain ranges."

The closest town is Magdalena, NM, twenty miles to the east, with about 1,000 people. Another twenty miles to the west is Datil, a crossroads community with 54 residents.

Datil, New Mexico

All of this is in Socorro County, which in 2025 only has about 16,000 people in a huge area that's larger individually than Rhode Island, Delaware, Puerto Rico, or Connecticut.

I created a graphic to illustrate the size of the place.
If Soccoro County
were in New Jersey...

With no one nearby, in a county the size of a state, with a population smaller than your average Rolling Stones stadium gig, where do you find the audience?

You bus them in: "two from Albuquerque, one out of El Paso, one out of Amarillo."  It's a six-hour drive to Amarillo, so this wasn't a show for casual fans.

It really was the middle of nowhere.  You can hear the desert wind whistle by as they do the interview segments.  These days, the Very Large Array website says "There are no food options on-site at the VLA. Please bring adequate food and beverages for your visit. During April-August is generally the warmest months at the VLA, with temperatures ranging from 70℉/20℃ to 95℉/35℃. Please keep in mind the site is at 7000ft/2100m and adequate sun protection & hydration is recommended."  That's now, it had to be even less accommodating a location in 1995.

The Album Network brought in a team of disc jockeys from around the country: Cathy Faulkner from Seattle's KISW, Larry Miles from Tucson's KLPX, and Phil Mahoney from New Mexico's 94 Real Rock (KZRR).  Faulkner takes the lead role on most of the segments.

As to why they picked a radio astronomy observatory, the answer is "space aliens."  While the band never comes right out and says they want to talk to the blubber-slime crab people from Epsilon Eridani, the "X-Files" theme music sprinkled throughout the special gives the game away.

It's a good show. I was not familiar with Queensryche before I chaptered Sam and Matt's cassettes.  As one of the later "superfluous umlaut" bands, I had dismissed them as outside my post-punk area of interest.  Big mistake on my part, it turns out.  I missed a solid hard rock band.

I've included press coverage I found on Newspapers.com.

In the download are two versions, each with a unique j-card.  One has ads, the other doesn't.

As it's a big file, I should mention MEGA sometimes stops in the middle of a download.  Close the window.  Click the link again.  You may have to do this many times for a large download, but it will eventually finish the download.  The problem does not happen every time.  Sometimes it downloads without a problem.

Feche a janela. Clique no link novamente. Pode ser necessário fazer isso várias vezes para um download grande, mas ele eventualmente será concluído. O problema não ocorre todas as vezes. Às vezes, o download ocorre sem problemas.

This is the only three-artist Captured Live show, and it's a bit of a missed programming opportunity. The first thing that jumps out is two solid American bands fronted by a woman singing...and then Australia's INXS.  There's nothing wrong with the line-up, but it seems like a missed opportunity to me. If the RKO Radio Networks had picked... say... Berlin...  we'd have three American bands fronted by women singers, providing a theme for the show.  As it is, INXS looks like the odd man out.

There wasn't much I could find about venues or dates...there's no venue mentioned for Quarterflash or INXS (other than "America" on the INXS show).  Perkin's Palace in Pasadena is the location for Scandal.  However... searching for "scandal" in the newspaper.com database produces more results than I can sort through.

On the Scandal show, two songs ("I Second That Emotion" and "Child of the Night") were unreleased at the time.  They appear to be released now, but still on unofficial recordings.

When I worked at the newspaper, there was a running joke about yelling "Stop the presses!" like they used to do on television shows.  You never want to stop the printing press, it takes hours to set up.   This was uncovered SECONDS before I posted, so STOP THE PRESSES!  Up there in the right-hand corner, (no, your other right hand...) I found a print ad for the show!

And then in pointless investigation, I had a mailing label for the production company, P.G. Productions, of 7200 Vineland Way in Sun Valley, California.  Here's what it looks like today:

Here's how we figured out that this was Houston, and not Seattle:

The cue sheet is marked "Seattle, Wash."  No venue is listed.

I checked Concert Vault, as the Star Session shows were produced by DIR, the folks behind the King Biscuit Flower Hour.  And sure enough, Concert Vault has a show labeled "Arena (Seattle, WA) Date: Sep 15, 1981"  It also says, "recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour during the Little River Band's 1981 U.S. tour"

I cross referenced the tracks with the Concert Vault streaming audio, and they're from the same source as Star Session.  However, this Star Session show has three additional tracks not on the Concert Vault version. The additional tracks are "I Don't Want To Worry," "It's A Long Way There," and "Reminiscing."

We know that Concert Vault occasionally lists incorrect recording dates by mixing up the broadcast and concert dates. I confirmed the Seattle show took place on September 15, 1981 at the Seattle Center Arena. Their date and venue are correct. I've included a print ad as proof that the basic underlying information is true: there  was a Seattle show on September 15, 1981.

However, I also looked at the original King Biscuit broadcast.  Discogs lists a KFBH broadcast on November 15, 1981 (split with Mink DeVille) The cue sheet for this show says it was "recorded in concert in Houston."  They played the Summit in Houston on Oct. 7, 1981.

The songs on the King Biscuit show are all duplicates of the Star Sessions songs, as follows:
Man On Your Mind
The Rumor
Don’t Let The Needle Win
Help Is On The Way
Lonesome Loser
Night Owl

So... how do we decide if this is Houston or Seattle?

We let the band settle it.

The Collective For Live Music had a copy of the King Biscuit show. I did an A/B comparison of Star Sessions with the King Biscuit show, and here's what I hear:

Man On Your Mind
On the KBFH version they introduce this song with "this is Houston, baby...greetings from Australia, we are the Little River Band, we hope you enjoy yourselves, we aim to..." On Star Sessions, it's "...we are the Little River Band, we hope you enjoy yourselves, we aim to.."  It's the same introduction, though, and the same music...the Star Session edits out the reference to Houston.

The Rumor
On both versions, there's an adlibbed "thank you" at the start.  The versions are the same.

Don’t Let The Needle Win
On both versions, there's a distinctive whistle from the audience.  Same.

Help Is On The Way
Again, whistling in both versions at the same place.

Lonesome Loser - Same versions

Night Owl
On the KBFH version they say, "All right Houston, are you ready for a little rock and roll here... it goes like this." Star Sessions cuts out the "all right Houston..." but it's the same track.

CONCLUSION:
The Star Sessions cue sheet and Concert Vault say it's Seattle, but all of the tracks are the same, and the KBFH version has the band reference Houston twice.

So, it's Houston, in spite of the Star Sessions cue sheet and the Concert Vault listing.

We also get four musical commercials featuring the Commodores, Tanya Tucker, the Pointer Sisters, and Roger Miller.

....and I put the link ALL THE WAY DOWN HERE at the bottom of the post to make Our Beloved Audience wade through Đ®åⒻṬëŕṽøï's endless blather...which is NOT generated by some chip sitting in a server farm.

IC-83-22-X-C > ALSHIRE   L-15550
IC-83-22-X-D > ALSHIRE   L-15550-

Side 2 is ridiculously LONG.  28 minutes 35 seconds. This creates "groove crowding" which makes it hard to get good sound out of an ancient record.

Problems:
The start of Side 1 and Side 4 each had a big, wide scratch. I was able to cut, paste, slice, dice, filter, and do what I could to make this an easy listen, but it's not the usual perfection I try and give Our Beloved Audience.  The good news is the Side 1 scratch falls on the Intro and the commercials, so...who cares, right?  On Side 4 it falls on the saxophone solo introduction to "Buzz Buzz Buzz."  While I was able to mitigate the scratch, the first twenty seconds aren't perfect.

The SRV tracks were sourced from the Hollywood Palace, August 22, 1983.  The Hollywood Palace show turned up on Westwood One three times...this show (83-22), which broadcast the following tracks:

01 Pride and Joy
02 Mary Had A Little Lamb (listed as "Ride On Bunky" on the cue)
03 Tell Me (listed as "Trouble" on the cue)
04 Texas Flood
05 Love Struck Baby
06 You'll Be Mine
07 Rude Mood (listed as "Duke's Lament" on the cue)

All of these except "Texas Flood" were repeated on Westwood One In Concert IC 84-17 (a two-artist show with Twisted Sister).  Once again, they were making ridiculous guesses as to the song titles:
01 Testify (listed as "Kyla's Theme" on the cue)
02 So Excited (listed as "Schoolgirl" on the cue)
03 Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)
04 Little Wing
05 Third Stone from the Sun
06 Wham! (listed as "Colletti's Torch Song" on the cue)
07 Lovestruck Baby
08 You’ll be Mine
09 Little Wing/Third Stone from the Sun
10 Rude Mood
11 Wham!

Tracks turned up many years later in 1998 on Westwood One In Concert 98-43. That one featured a unique track from the show, "Lenny" that was not on the earlier releases.

The beer commercials are the less common Busch ads, similar to the Budweiser ads in that they feature a popular artist...though why country singer Janie Fricke and sophisticated jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis are on a Stevie Ray Vaughan show is an open question.

We're not sure, but we think the "X" designation on the disc labels (and on the cue, in the upper left corner) indicate a different set of commercials from versions labeled "Y."

I'm not sure when the Huey Lewis tracks were recorded.

No songs from "Sports" are played. "Sports" was released in September 1983, preceded by the "Heart and Soul" single on August 30, 1983.)

So... the tracks were probably before the end of August 1983 (when the SRV show was recorded).  Usually these 2-artist shows are recorded fairly close to each other... but not always.

The show is stated by the announcer to be from the Old Waldorf in San Francisco. I started going through the S.F. Chronicle's "Datebook" section...running backwards from the broadcast date.

There are no Old Waldorf ads in the August 7 1983 Datebook section...or after that date.  The venue was sold to Bill Graham earlier that summer, who closed it and opened Wolfgang's (named after himself).  The last show at the Old Waldorf was Etta James/Johnny Otis on July 1, 1983, so this show MUST come from before that date.

There's no Huey Lewis show in June (but oh my g*d, my friend Matt's band If Then Why opened for R.E.M.!!!!) No Huey Lewis shows in May, April, March, February, January...and that's it for 1983.

This continues all the way through 1982 until February 20, 1982, when there a Huey Lewis show.  Setlist.fm says the following set list was played; HOWEVER... there were OFTEN two shows at the Old Waldorf, an early 8:00 PM show, and a later 10:00 PM show...so just because the set list doesn't match, the fact that it's only one show leaves open the possibility there were two shows that night.

The Setlist.fm list says the show was:

Feb 20:
Tattoo (Giving It All Up for Love)
Trouble in Paradise
Don't Make Me Do It
Stop Trying
Don't Ever Tell Me That You Love Me
Buzz-Buzz-Buzz
Tell Me a Little Lie
Whatever Happened to True Love
Do You Believe in Love
Change of Heart
Hearts
Is It Me
The Only One
Workin' for a Livin'
Some of My Lies Are True (Sooner or Later)
Who Cares?

For now, I'm listing this as February 20th.

You get 300 dpi scans of the cue sheet, all four disc labels, print ads and an L.A. Times review for the Scandal show.

I was unable to track down a date for the Jon Butcher Axis show at the Roxy. Our pal Sam found an Ebay auction selling a magazine clipping mentioning the concert.  I found a higher quality version over at worldradiohistory.com and it's included in the Artwork file.

The clipping is from Billboard Magazine December 28, 1985, and the caption says, "Capitol executives congratulate the Jon Butcher Axis band backstage after their KMET-sponsored show at the Roxy in Los Angeles."  As the show was aired on December 20-22, 1985, and the magazine came out a week later, this provides evidence that the concert might have been in November. There's a listing for him at another club on November 10th, so he was in the area mid-month.

I couldn't find information on "Living For The City" and "Lucky Man," so they may be unreleased.  If there are any Jon Butcher Axis fans out there in Our Beloved Audience, please leave a comment if you know where these two songs were released.

The Charles of the Ritz ad imitates Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Until You Get Enough."

I've got three unidentified Budweiser ads there that all sound like the same singer.  What do you think?  Do you have any idea who that might be?  I'm sure the first ad is Lou Rawls, but is that him on the other three ads?

The Scandal set includes a guest appearance by Eddie Van Halen on the last two songs. I think they're the same set X-Ray posted a few months back. Now you can hear them with commercials!  Hurray!

This one is a Version "A" concert, which means that somewhere out there exists a Version "B" with a different set of commercials.

Speaking of commercials, besides the usual suspects (Lee Jeans, Certs, U.S. Navy...) we have RockBill magazine.

The July 7, 1982 New York Times said, "... RockBill magazine, a Playbill-size publication, that was given out free in 70 ''showcase'' nightclubs that have live rock music entertainment. In addition to giving away 500,000 copies of RockBill at the clubs, subscriptions will be sold for it on commercials that will appear on MTV, the music television cable network, as part of a trade-off deal that will get the network not only pages of advertising but also program listings in the magazine in exchange. The magazine will only carry full, four-color bleed ads at $19,500 each."

I've included the cover of the magazine from August 1984, the month this show was broadcast.  Did any of you ever read RockBill?

Also in the Artwork folder are ads for the show, confirming the recording date of May 28, 1984.  I've got a review from the wrong Odeon, this one is in Birmingham. I couldn't find one for London, so this is better than nothing. England appears to be full of Odeons.  Here in the U.S. of A. we've got slathers of Fox, Greek, and Paramount Theaters.  Or "theatres," we can't figure out which spelling we prefer.

As usual, there is a BBC Transcription Services version of this (In Concert 335, CN 4429/S) that has two additional songs ("Sister Europe," "Into You Like A Train") These transcription discs sell for ridiculously high prices; there's someone asking £1,000.00 +£27.00 shipping for an XTC show over on Discogs at the time of this writing.

Flac files of wavs, 300 dpi scans of the disc labels and cue sheet, and a print ad to prove the date of the show.  I went fishing on Ebay and managed to find a used ticket for the show (only $9.99...and is it just me, or is it weird that used tickets often cost more than tickets to the original show? Because I think it's super-weird.)

Thorogood also played the Hollywood Palladium in October but that's after the Westwood One broadcast date, so it's definitely not the source date.

Unreleased at the time are the two Chuck Berry covers "Memphis, Tennessee" and "Reelin' and Rocking."

There's also a treasure trove of Budweiser ads, and I think I've got all four of them identified: The Tubes, B.B. King, Dio, and the Icicle Works.  They're all great!

Geography lesson:
Hollywood is a neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles, not a city on its own.  Next door is West Hollywood, which IS a separate city, but is often credited to Los Angeles. However, before 1984, West Hollywood wasn't a city, it was an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County.

Terrible scan of the disc, the light bounces off it in a weird starburst pattern.  Really, it stinks.

As the Boss says, "We suck."

As with previous My Chemical Romance/Sum 41 show, I copied the show exactly as presented and it's in the Censored file. The producers backmasked twenty-seven profanities, making the original broadcast annoying to my ears.  I reversed the reversed words as best I could.

Note the inclusion of "http://www.shows.westwoodone.com/Absoultely-Live/inzone.htm Call your Westwood One Affiliate Sales Rep for your Username and Password."  This foreshadows the death of physical media. As time went on, there were fewer and fewer of these Westwood One shows burned onto CD-r. The next decade saw the rise of streaming and the slow death of many terrestrial radio stations.

I could not find any confirmation My Chemical Romance played Irvine in August.

Concertarchives.org has the band in Cincinnati on Aug 3 and San Diego on Aug. 5, in Japan from Aug. 12 to 14, and in England from Aug. 22 to 27, and in New York City Aug. 31.  IF TRUE...I repeat IF TRUE it's not likely they played the 1st, 2nd, or 4th because they'd have to move the equipment 2,100 miles to or from Cincinnati.  They'd need a day or two to get to Japan, so the 10th and 11th aren't likely, either.  Maybe August 6 to August 9 makes sense.

That's speculation, not fact. This is the internet; I recommend keeping a healthy skepticism about everything.  :)

Flac files of wavs.  Includes the cue sheet, a scan of the CD disc, and the three-page script for the disc jockey to read.

The location and month are taken from the script.  I did not find any press coverage confirming the dates or location.

For My Chemical Romance, the script says, "recorded in January, while the Christmas holiday was still fresh on everyone's mind." And they do a brief "Merry Christmas" song, but I'm skeptical. Who sings Christmas songs in January? I found a listing that mentions they played KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas at the Universal Amphitheater on December 12, 2004, which seems like a possible date.  The script is there in black and white, though, claiming a January date.  Make of it what you will.

Throughout the show, there were occasional profanities that were censored by backmasking - reversing the offending word. I reversed the censored words, restoring the original profanity.  There are two versions included: one is censored and represents the original broadcast, the second is an uncensored version.

We'll start with this quote...with "the Hooters having come close to selling out two nights at the Tower Theater (June 6-7), management feels the band should touring nationally, too.  So it looks like the Hooters will be joining Don Henley for the Southern and Midwest portion of his summer tour in late June."

As you can tell from the two night near sell-out and the rapturous audience reception on this recording, the Hooters were huge hometown heroes in Philadelphia heading into the summer of 1985. "And We Danced" was released earlier in May and would go to #28 nationally on the Billboard Hot 100. That summer, it was #1 in Philadelphia.

This show was recorded and syndicated just weeks before the Hooters appearance at Live Aid in Philadelphia on July 13, 1985.  The high-profile Live Aid concert was the first time most of the country (and the world) saw them live. To quote Bob Geldof in Rolling Stone, "Who the fuck are the Hooters?" Apparently, Bob wasn't aware of their huge Philly following and did not want them to open the Philadelphia portion of Live Aid.

But to Mr. Geldof's point, they were not known outside the area.  Three months after selling out the Tower, the Hooters headlined Wolfgang's in San Francisco, a 600 seat nightclub venue. The Tower has about 3,200 seats and they sold out two nights in June.  In October, they played the Tower again...and sold out five nights. That's 22,400 tickets in Philadelphia vs. 600 tickets in San Francisco.  And that's not counting that they played the night clubs in Philadelphia throughout the year, too.

The breakthrough led to national press coverage.  I've included a folder with articles for your consideration while you listen to the Hooters on the verge of national stardom.

As an ironic side note: "During a European tour back in the ’90s, Geldof opened for the Hooters. The irony was never discussed between the two parties. “We didn’t have a lot of contact with him, but we did several shows with Geldof and the Waterboys,” Hyman said. “We did get a bit of a chuckle about Geldof opening for us and, of course, we knew who he was.”
