This concert was broadcast at a later date in the Bay Area, likely on KFOG or KQED in San Francisco.

Santana has three NBC The Source shows, all of them concerts.

The first was Santana Concert broadcast on December 14-15-16, 1979.

The EBAY ad for this said the source was Osaka, Japan. I don't have a copy of this yet.  Sam and I think that this was the very first concert broadcast on the NBC The Source network.  As such, it is rare and I haven'tt

The next was Santana Concert broadcast May 9-10-11, 1981 (this show) recorded at Santa Cruz, CA Feb. 21, 1981.  The Discogs listing for the 1981 show had the 1979 disc labels posted, which caused some confusion there. I posted the correct labels and added the cue sheet on 01/04/2023.

The third show was The Santana Concert Encore October 9-10-11, 1981. This is a repeat of the Santa Cruz show.

As usual...this is recorded right off the radio discs, declicked by yours truly, comes with 300 dpi scans of the cue sheet, all four disc labels, and has newspaper articles confirming the date and location of the concert.

It says "auditorium" right on the building.

This is the second of two KBFH broadcasts of songs from this concert.  The January 22, 1989 show duplicates five songs (Everybody's Everything, Black Magic Woman, Gypsy Queen, Oye Como Va, Soul Sacrifice) with this show, and adds more songs.

KBFH started repeating shows in 1990, recycling the same set of tracks, sometimes twice in the same year.  The ads and announcements changed, and for awhile they added one or two tracks by a "modern rock" artist that the stations could add by dropping the last classic rock track.

Spirits Dancing In The Flesh from this show was on a repeating KBFH compilation on these dates:

On the first show, I left the commercials as a single block; here I edited them into individual tracks.  I was trying to imitate the Discogs listing on the first one, but while it's (slightly) more work, I decided I like the commercials tracked individually.  Oh....and that first show is in our archives.

Live From Electric Ladyland was a syndicated radio show distributed on CD by the Album Network in conjunction with New York City's WNEW-FM radio station. The show was hosted by WNEW disc jockey Pat St. John. It's likely that WNEW broadcast the full show, and it was edited down for national syndication. 

While the LFEL shows were distributed on CD starting in October of 1990, there were a few earlier shows that were distributed on tape. Unlike the CDs, which are often printed with the broadcast date and promotional logos, the cassettes have very little information on them.

To start with, there's no recording date, so I sourced that from from Santana.com.  Santana.com lists "The Healer" as the second song, but it's not on the cassette...as far as I can hear.  I'm not an expert on 80s/90s Santana, so if I've got something wrong, please put in the comments so I can fix it.  

The promo poster for this show has a broadcast date of September 7, 1990.

Let's see....what other clues do they give us?  The Album Network gives us their address and phone number in Burbank, California.  The tape duplication was by 52nd Street...which sounds like New York City, but the Sept. 1989 issue of Billboard says was in Los Angeles.  There's not much we can learn from the J-card.

So, here it is, digitized from an original cassette.  It's complete with vintage commercials, tracked so you can discard the ads if you want just music.  I've included 300 dpi scans of the cassette J-card, and both sides of the cassette.  There was no cue sheet.  For one of the CD shows, I have a faxed cue sheet, so they may have used faxes for the cassettes, too. 

While it's likely most of you will toss the ads, the Kmart ads reference a cross-section of 1990s pop music...and a time when we bought music at department stores.

Westwood One's host J.J. Jackson announces the show as originally recorded in 1977 at the Hammersmith Odeon by the BBC.  I can't find any evidence that Santana played Hammersmith in '77.  He DID play there on December 15, 1976. The BBC Rock Hour distributed a reel-to-reel tape of the show for broadcast in the USA with an air date of February 2, 1977, so that may be the source of the error.

Setlist.com says "Revelations" was played after Dance Sister, and has the songs in a different order.

This is extracted using EAC from the broadcast discs, not recorded off the air.

As is often the case, we've a few musical mysteries to solve.  This one isn't so much a mystery as a series of errors, but hey, me n' Scooby Doo will take what we can get these days.  As I'm no expert when it comes to Santana, please feel free to toss in your dos centavos in the comments section when I get something wrong.

In Concert #93-16 is a compilation of tracks from three different shows. First up are two tracks from New York City's Beacon Theatre, recorded on May 7, 1976.  No problems there.

The second segment is announced as being from "1977's concert at the Hammersmith Odeon." A quick check of the Almighty Internet shows there was no Santana concert at that venue in 1977...but there was a show there on December 15, 1976.  There was a London show in 1977 at the Crystal Palace Bowl. So...is the date wrong, or the venue?  I'm going with wrong date.

The second problem is the cue sheet lists the songs as "Oye Como Va" followed by "Maria Caracoles." That's definitely "Oye Como Va," but song segues into what I believe to be a cover of Joe Cuba's "El Pito (I'll Never Go Back To Georgia)" before returning to "Oye Como Va."  The next song (I think) is "Europa."  No "Maria Caricoles" that I can hear at all.  Give it a listen and let me know if I'm missing anything.

The rest of the show is from Tijuana.  No mysteries here, just a minor spelling problem on the cue sheet with "aqua" instead of "agua."

The cue sheet was sliced up by a former owner so that they could stuff it into a CD case.

The Tijuana tracks were also broadcast by Westwood One on a Superstars In Concert Show #92-25, with several additional tracks from the show added.

**Original Notes**
This is a VERY common item, widely circulated in various form and sources, but since we are in ratio free period, it's well worth a download! This should be from a FM source (spectrals reveal some sort of a carrier tone), mistakenly circulating as SBD. There is also a much longer audience version, but apparently this all that is available from the broadcast. Lineage is unfortunately totally unknown, but of more than excellent sound quality. Anyhow, the same spectral and frequency analysis confirm it's 100% lossless. This was the last of a 5-nights run a the Waldorf, with the band introducing the Zebop album and tour. Here is the era of Santana drivin' through stadium rock, some unusual tracks played, as the reggae beats on Body Surfin', made it an interesting piece, if I had listenied without knowing, I would have maybe not even thought it was Santana...

Selections From The 16th Annual Bammies March 7, 1992

The Bammies were an annual Bay Area music awards show, founded by BAM Magazine publisher Dennis Erokan.  While the print magazine is long gone, there's an online version at http://bammagazine.com/

As with most award shows, there was a LOT of talking and not much performance.  I edited this one hour of music down from three 100 minute cassette tapes (recorded on both sides).  I edited the tracks as close to the start of the music as possible to cut out the blather.  There's two places where the deejay talks right over the start of the song, unfortunately.

Highlights of this show include Gregg Allman doing what I believe to be an unreleased song ("Turn Nothing Back Into Something"), and Kirk Hammett of Metallica jamming with Carlos Santana.
