Pox-Wretches

Pox-Wretches are the lowliest of Nurgle's Rotbringer minions. Human cultists that revel in filth and disease. I imagine they could easily be mistaken for zombies, except that they move faster and slightly better at fighting (The have the same stat profile as Deathrattle Skeletons - except they move 5" instead of 4")

Pox-Wretches

These came with Warhammer Quest: Darkwater.

I painted them very quickly - just doing my rusty metal mix and then blocking in basic colours and then I sloshed the whole model with Agrax Earthshade. The look a bit of a mess on close inspection... but they're SUPPOSED to look a bit of a mess!!

The Mire Kelpies were on the same frame, so in Age of Sigmar they are included in the unit as tokens that can be expended to help spread disease against their opponents in combat.

A fun little addition to my growing Maggotkin of Nurgle army and a large chunk of the miniatures I needed to finish to get started on Warhammer Quest: Darkwater!

All the Darkwater Hostiles stuff so far!

I still have eight Pestigors that I'd like to finish before we start the campaign! They shouldn't take TOO long as I was trying to get them done for the first time we tried playing Warhammer Quest: Darkwater... but had to abandon them when it became clear I just wasn't going to finish them AND get ANY sleep...

After the Pestigors, there are just a few more characters and monsters to finish up - Belga the Cystwitch, the two Cankerborn and the three other Heroes; Kelthannor, Drasher Vorn, and Jacobus Vyne (with his familiar, Wisper).

I hope to get them ALL done before the long weekend - just a week away!

Once I have all the Darkwater stuff finished, it will be back to working on the rest of the Maggotkin of Nurgle and Sylvaneth stuff... and then maybe some Tzeentch stuff, as that is being released a little earlier than I expected!!

All the Maggotkin of Nurgle stuff, so far.. In addition to the Pestigors and Belga the Cystwitch and the Cankerborn... I have a unit of Rotmier Creed, four Pusgoyle Blightlords, five Putrid Blightkings (which I may put on 32mm bases and call Rotswords) and a Harbinger of Decay to finish up...

It's Been Kind of Quiet Around Here...

I haven't been painting a lot of miniatures so far this year...

Partly this is because I've been a bit busy, having returned to school...

But also earlier this month I injured my shoulder and neck and that's made it pretty painful to sit and paint or assemble miniatures...

This is really kind of bumming me out as I was REALLY hoping to be playing Warhammer Quest: Darkwater in February, but I still have so many miniatures to paint still!!

On the plus side...

(this meme was probably funnier when a friend posted it on their discord just a week into the year!)

It's a bit more of an actual brag that I made it through January without buying any miniatures!

Especially considering Dragon's Den Games had three copies of Fury of the Deep and one copy of Warcry Heart of Ghur on their discount shelf at 40% off! The contents of Fury of the Deep I think I calculated to be around $500CAD now... and 40% off the original retail price put it at around $120...? At one point I would not have thought twice about buying that... do I NEED a force of Idoneth Deepkin or Fyreslayers?! Fuck no! But they would be FUN to have a paint up!

Realistically, I haven't painted more than a unit or two... or maybe a Unit and a character...? from the last three of those old battle boxes I've picked up...

(no... that's not true, I DID paint ALL of the Nighthaunt half of Arena of Shades! That's kind of how I ended up with a Nighthaunt Spearhead Army - after I bought a few more units...)

I DID pick up the new Nurgle Battletome... but that's about it...

NONE of the new Nurgle units or the new Nurgle Spearhead army, though! I'll probably pick up that new spearhead - just to get the units it contains (SO MANY NURGLINGS!!) for considerably less than the regular retail price of the individual units!

(The above image is ©2026 Games Workshop and used here entirely without their permission for the purpose of review)

But only AFTER I have ALL the other Maggotkin of Nurgle stuff I already have done (including the Warhammer Quest Darkwater stuff!)...

(which is four Pusgoyle Blightlords, five of the older Putrid Blightkings, a Harbinger of Decay, ten Rotmire Creed, a Sloppily Bilepiper, and the Feculent Gnarlmaw... and from Warhammer Quest: Darkwater; a pair of Cankerborn, eight Pestigors, fourteen Poxwretches, and maybe all the Sylvaneth stuff I have... If I add in the Sylvaneth, I have fifteen Spite-Revenants, two Treelords, and Drycha Hamadreth to finish up - though the latter is nearly done!)

I was pretty excited about the Tzeentch stuff presented at the New Years Preview. There wasn't much in terms of new miniatures - just faction terrain and a mortal infantry hero...

(The above image is ©2026 Games Workshop and used here entirely without their permission for the purpose of review)

The new faction terrain looks really interesting.

What also caught my eye was the Battleforce Box being released along with the new Battletome and the new Spearhead - all look fun. There is nothing new in either of those boxes. Just a lot of older miniatures all at deeply discounted prices!

(The above image is ©2026 Games Workshop and used here entirely without their permission for the purpose of review)

The Battleforce: Warpflame Cavalcade contains a Greater Daemon of Tzeentch, three Screamers of Tzeentch, three flamers of Tzeentch, an Exalted Flamer of Tzeentch, a Herald of Tzeentch on Burning Chariot, and ten each of Pink, Blue and Brimstone Horrors! A great big PILE of Daemons!

(The above image is ©2026 Games Workshop and used here entirely without their permission for the purpose of review)

The Tzaangor Warflock Spearhead is all Tzaangors - a Tzaangor Shaman leading three Tzaangor Enlightened, Three Tzaangor Skyfires, and 10 Tzaangor.

(The above image is ©2026 Games Workshop and used here entirely without their permission for the purpose of review)

So I'll probably pick up the Battleforce box and Battletome when they're released (as the Battleforce Box  will only be available for a limited time) and then I'll pick up the terrain and the Tzaangor Warflock Spearhead when I finish the daemons in the Battleforce box (and... maybe the Tzeentch Spearhead I already HAVE?!)

Because, apparently, I need ANOTHER chaos army...

Hopefully none of it is released until later in March...

Maybe this will be the YEAR OF CHAOS!!

Age of Sigmar: Champions TCG

It has been a LOOOOOOOOONG time since I have played a Collectable Card Game or Trading Card Game... I have to admit, I have never actually played Magic the Gathering! I played a lot of IlluminatiL New World Order and a bunch of other weird, smaller CCGs after the bit CCG bubble burst and you could get starter decks for $3-5 or packs for 50¢ or $1... Like Rage (the werewolf game) or Dune or Kult or Mythos..

I had a lot of stuff for the Star Trek: The Next Generation CCG and one edition of Legends of the Five Rings... just because I could pick up stuff cheap... but never actually played either!?

A few years back, I discovered there had been a licensed Age of Sigmar collectable card game called Champions. At the time I was able to pick up a booster display for less than $20 (CANADIAN!?). I did some snooping around though and it was hard to find the rules (though I did eventually find some... but they'd been downloaded as screen shots from an app and lacked diagrams...) another thing I found suggested that you NEEDED the starter decks to play (I'm not 100% sure this is true... but it would be tricky to pick up enough blessings just from one booster box to play any of the factions.

The Starter Decks just seemed too expensive... the cheapest I could find was $22 + $12 shipping and that was for Destruction (the faction deck of least interest to me... and they just went up from there... and I'd probably need at least two...)

At some point I found someone selling a set of all four for $85... which was a bit more reasonable in terms of per unit cost... but it was STILL paying $85 for a game that may or may not suck and may or may not ever get played more than once... or... EVER!? (not that that has stopped me from buying games "on spec" before... but I'm TRYING to be more reasonable...)

Last week I found that same seller was now selling starter displays (8 starter decks, two of each) for $85... so...

I bought the starter display...

Now.. it it NOT lost on me that I've STILL payed $85 for a game that I could conceivably never play...

But I've got twice as many started boxes now!!

I could give half of them away to potential opponents!

The starter comes with a pre-constructed deck that is supposed to be playable, a booster pack (the first taste is free!), a much more readable set of rules, and a fold out paper playing matt... which isn't the highest quality... but will probably be handy for a game or two then entirely discarded once we all figure out where stuff goes.

I wondered if this maybe came out BEFORE Warhammer Underworlds...? To maybe test the waters to see if Warhammer fans might be interested in deck-building games...? But checking the dates on Board Game Geek, this game was released the year AFTER Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire was released. It still seems crazy to me that there are new CCGs being released in this day and age... Okay it was seven years ago... but still, I thought everything that wasn't Magic the Gathering (or maybe Pokemon?) died off in the 90s or went the "Living Card Game" route that did away with random booster packs!

Because Amanda has been busy this week, I haven't been able to get her to sit down and try it out with me (and Orion is out of town for work), so I decided this evening maybe I should just sit down and try a solo play-through to see how it works... So I busted out the Chaos and Death pre-constructed decks and set up a game.

The only thing about solo gaming, I can't stand my opponent...

Ugggghhh... this fucking guy... I swear he's cheating...

I can't honestly tell if this guy is genuinely dumb as fuck or if he's just "weaponizing incompetence"... Moron.

Anyway... seems like a fun little game that will play quick enough when I'm not trying to play BOTH sides... Solo gaming kind of works for me, I have such garbage working memory that by the time I walk around to the other side of the table to play the other side, I've completely forgotten what cards I had or what plans I'd been making moments before. Unfortunately, it takes forever, because I walk around to the other side of the table and have to re-read all the cards on THAT side and try to figure out what the hell I'd been planning... or if I'd had a plan at all!? Ultimately I end up having to come up with a whole new plan!?

Isn't that just my luck... playing Khorne and all I got is a hand full of SPELLS!?

(there is a Tzeentch Champion in the Chaos deck - that is otherwise MOSTLY Khorne stuff - and they can cast the spells... but spells take time and you can't just fire them all off in one turn!?)

The basic rules seem simple enough to follow... but getting the right card combinations at the right time, so you can get the timing of them right for it all to GO OFF... that's the tricky part!

I swear, Amanda will lose the first two games, complaining viciously about the rules and how she just doesn't get it... and then I will never win a game again in my life...

Helsmiths of Hashut - War Despot

Before tackling the Lord of Afflictions and Pusgoyle Blightlord to finish up the Maggotkin of Nurgle spearhead, I though I'd finish up the first of the Helsmiths of Hashut. I did start assembling these pretty much the moment i got home with them... but then got painting the Maggotkin as there was a more immediate need for them (upcoming role-playing games this weekend!)... but also, I hadn't really nailed down a colour scheme..

Helsmiths of Hashut - War Despot

This is the General of the Spearhead force and I kind of painted him up on his own to test out colour-scheme ideas... and... I'm mostly happy with it... not super happy with how his Daemonflame Blade turned out... I tried a couple different ideas and now there's just too much paint on there and it doesn't look at all daemony... I may have to scrape some of that off and start over... OR I might just say fuck it, onwards! It's got paint on it and no one is ever going to look that closely at it!?

All the rest of the Helsmiths are only partly assembled... I might see if I can build the Automaton and Artillery piece with magnets so I can potentially use them as either option they can be built as... Or.. I might just build them as required for the versions required for use in the Spearhead force... and if I ever feel like I need the OTHER option... I could just buy another one... I'll need more of both if ever I want to build this up past just the Spearhead force...

Because I did promise some comparison pics...

(a few things to keep in mind, though... He is a Champion that's been infused with Daemonic energies and is bigger and chonkier than the line Hashutite infantry, he is standing on top of a pile of rubble and he is wearing a VERY TALL HAT!)

War Despot with two modern heroes from Cursed City - Dagnail Holdenstock and Glaurio Ven Alten III

War Despot with current Slaanesh models - Shardspeaker of Slaanesh and Glisette from The Dread Pageant Warhammer Underworlds Warband.

War Despot with current Stormcast Eternals - Liberator and Lord-Veritant

War Despot with current duardin - Fyreslayer Auric Runesmiter and Kharadron Arkanaut

War Despot with older metal High Elves

War Despot with older metal Dwarf Thunderer and Human Wizard.

Helsmiths of Hashut

I might have gotten a little caught up in the hype again... I picked up the Helsmiths of Hashut Army Set earlier today.

Helsmiths of Hashut Army Set

Before it even went up for pre-order I asked my FLGS (Dragon's Den Games in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada!) to put me down for one. I didn't grab it on launch day, as I was in Vancouver... but the folks at the Dragon's Den were nice enough to hold on to it for me!!

I haven't read through all the fluff, but I'll probably be doing them as Zharrdron of the Forge Anathema in Aqshy - as that's where I've imagined most of my forces originating from - and is the setting for so many of the adventures for Soulbound!

The Forge Anathema has been on the maps in Soulbound from the very beginning! And though they did not say outright that it was Chaos Dwarves, the description of the place and what was going on there was pretty clearly a stronghold of the Zharrdron nestled in the Adamantine Chain of mountains along the eastern edge of The Parch...

Description of the Forge Anathema from Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound Core Rules - July 2020!

The miniatures included in the box also happen to make up a Spearhead army. I don't LOVE the Automaton or the idea of BIG GUNS... I'd have rather had more of the infantry and some Bull Centaurs... but... I'll get over it (and add those units later!)

I am NOT buying another thing for this army until I have all of this stuff painted. Once I do, however, I will probably pick up some Bull Centaurs... and some more of the infantry. I have some Hobgrot infantry from the Age of Sigmar 3rd Edition Extremis Starter Box I could maybe paint up and use with these...?

Everyone is RAVING about the Urak Tarr/Daemonsmith riding a big flying-dragon-bull-construct-thing... But I don't know if I'm going to get THAT into this army..

There is a regiment of renown that has two of the artillery pieces and a Daemonsmith which can be fielded by any other Chaos army. I do like the Daemonsmith model, so putting that together might be fun - give the Blades of Khorne some shooty options!

Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne - and Khorgorath

The first two of a big batch of Khorne things that will hopefully be rolling off the workbench over the next week or so...

Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne, and Khorgorath!

Baelyngar - Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne, is a daemonic champion that buffs nearby Bloodletters. It is the leader of the Chaos Daemons Combat Patrol I bought last week.

I already have one (Korgorand), so I modified this one a bit, just to make them look a little bit different.

Along with Karanak, Hound of Vengeance, I now have three Khorne Daemon Champions that can lead units of daemons in 40K or lead Regiments of daemons in Age of Sigmar.

All of the Khorne Daemons, so far... These WERE all useable in both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. I'm not sure about Karanak at the moment. I have a feeling a straight Chaos Daemon army may soon be a thing of the past and daemons will only be allowed in the aligned Heretic Astartes chapter armies...

At SOME point (like, when ALL the Khorne stuff I have is all done...) it might be fun to pick up a Skulltaker or Skullmaster - just to have some different looking Daemon champions. The skullmaster is mounted on a Juggernaught and could lead the Bloodcrushers...

Of course... If I got ALL the other Khorne stuff done, I might just break down and buy myself a BLOODTHIRSTER!!

The Khorgorath! This isn't technically a daemon... they're mortal beasts that have been corrupted and mutated into horrifying creatures utterly consumed with rage!

(But I'll likely use this as a "Greater Daemon" for the Armageddon Crusade Campaign!)

The Khorgorath came with the Big Khorne Horde I traded for just over a year ago! It's been mostly painted for almost that entire time... SO CLOSE, I just haven't been able to remove it from the workbench!? Now that I have a big pile of Khorne things (and there was a potential use for it!) I finally got around to finishing it up!

All of the Blades of Khorne, so far...

The rest of the Daemons are coming along very nicely. I started batch painting the whole lot... but now I just have to finish up details, and that I'll do unit by unit. I'll probably finish up the Khorne Dogs (Flesh Hounds) first, then the Bloodletters and finally the Bloodcrushers (three of which I never finished from the Wrath and Rapture box I picked up six years ago!?)

I've also slid a few more Blades of Khorne items onto the workbench (Mighty Lord of Khorne, Skullreapers, Bloodsecrator, and Bloodstoker). Not sure if these SHOULD be priorities right now... but while I'm riding the red tide, I might as well see if I can't get a few more done.

I'm a little bit alarmed by how many of these are just not available on the Warhammer Website anymore... The Khorgorath, Bloodsecrator, and Bloodstoker are all no longer available. Previously they were only available in the "Start Collecting" boxes - and those are gone - will they be rereleased in new boxes with the new Battletome? Will they be getting updated models? Will they just be gone!? Replaced with other models!?

Stay tuned for Moar Khorne Kraziness!!

(or maybe a Warhammer Quest game report!)

Return of the Soroibus Tortus

With the new Codex: Emperor's Children, I've had to massively reorganize my old Emperor's Children force - that was organized using the rules in the previous edition's Chaos Space Marines Codexes... Really, it was a bit disappointing how much things changed.

In previous editions, Noise Marines, if taken in a force with the Emperor's Children key words, they were considered Troops or Battleline - your basic troops that you can take as many as you want of (or six units, instead of just three, in the most recent edition) and they could be in units of five to ten...

In the current edition Noise Marines are fielded in units of six (no more, no less - which makes sense, being the magic number of Slaanesh!) but are NOT BATTLELINE!! Meaning I can only take a MAXIMUM of THREE units of these - a grand total of eighteen Noise Marines!?

While they weren't all painted, I already had THIRTY Noise Marines!? Then I got twelve more in the Champions of Slaanesh box set!?

What am I to do with all these Noise Marines!?

I haven't decided ultimately what will happen to ALL of them... but for the time being, I've decided to rebase the ones I've painted (as they are now fielded on 40mm bases!?) and painted up any of the older ones I need to fill out three units of six of the older models as fast as I can and use those...

What will I do with the dozen other old ones I have...?! I don't know....

What will I do with the dozen NEW ones I have...? I don't know... I could just sell them while the Noise Marines are still popular..? Or just keep them around and paint them for funsies... or paint them to replace the old ones (eventually)

For now, however, I've painted two of the older ones to add to the Soroibus Tortus...

The two new ones...

Soroibus Tortus Noise Marines

The unit was inspired by the American heavy metal band Twisted Sister and the costumes they wore on the cover of The Best of the Atlantic Years album...

Sometimes when coming up with names for 40K, I just latinize them, sort of... I'm not sure how I got to Sororibus Tortas...  I'm guessing it was based on Torta (Twisted?) and Soror (Sister)...?

I could have gone with Perversa Sorore... or Fraternitas Torta... or Fraternitas Perversa!? Alas... Sticking with the original name I came up with for them!

I have three or four more of the older Noise Marines to finish up to complete the three units...

When they're done, I could potentially field 740 points of stuff...

  • Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (1)  195 pts
  • Lord Exultant (1) 80 pts
  • Sorcerer (1) 60 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
Here's what I've done so far..

That's an OLD Keeper of Secrets I'm using as my Daemon Prince of Slaanesh. the Daemon Prince of Slaanesh I now armed with an infernal cannon... Not sure I wonder if I should convert that to have something shooty like...?

Or... maybe that dangly bit I added between their legs could be the Infernal Cannon... I mean... It IS Slaanesh we're talking about here!?

The Six Sweet Sultry Saturday Seductions of Slaanesh

(try saying THAT six times, quickly!)

I have been waiting for an Emperor's Children codex for YEARS... It was some time during 8th edition that I got it in my head that I should just play CHAOS. I hate having to play my Imperial Guard against other Imperial forces - and there are a LOT of people out there with Imperial forces (between all the marines and guard and Mechanicus and knights, etc). Playing Eldar there is always the possibility of playing against Eldar... (I was still thinking in terms of playing at tournaments at this point). Chaos seemed fun and colourful and they'll fight ANYONE - even OTHER CHAOS forces. So I started working on an Emperor's Children force using the generic Chaos Space Marines codex (only Deathguard and Thousand Sons had their own, at that point).

And I waited... and waited... and WAITED...

You could play Emperor's Children (sort of) with the Chaos Space Marines... There were Noise Marines (or, rather, you could hunt down old metal ones on Ebay, or buy a conversion kit to convert regular Chaos Space Marines into Noise Marines...) I did a bit of both and amassed THIRTY of them!? Normally they were "elites" but if you were running Emperor's Children, they became TROOPS!

In Ninth Edition, I THINK there were similar rules... I was playing less during ninth edition and so I didn't buy the Chaos Space Marines codex when it came out... I was REALLY hoping there'd be an Emperor's Children codex eventually... but there wasn't... (World Eaters got their own Codex during Ninth Edition!)

I've been playing even lass during tenth edition...

So when they hinted at the end of 2024 that there'd be Emperor's Children in 2025, I... wasn't THAT stoked. I was happy they were finally doing that... but I hadn't played in almost a year and was VERY interested in Age of Sigmar at the moment.

When they previewed the new minis earlier this year and started dropping hints about the codex and rules and a launch box... I waffled. I didn't really think I'd get to painting and playing with them, as I was still super focused on Age of Sigmar... I did think about MAYBE picking up the launch box...? They are usually INCREDIBLE deals... it would get me the Codex and some of the new minis... I wasn't sure if I really NEEDED any as I have QUITE A BIT of Chaos stuff... and... like THIRTY Noise Marines....

I noted at one point the Noise Marines were going to be sold (and fielded) in units of six, which wasn't a problem, because conveniently thirty is easily divisible by six! Instead of six units of five (or three units of ten). I'd have five units of six (or, presumably, two units of twelve and a unit of six...). Easy Peasy...

I saw the announcement that it would be coming up for pre-order the following week three weeks ago, and I still wasn't sure... I saw it went up for pre-order two weeks ago and, at that point decided maybe I should pick it up! I'll get back to playing 40K at some point and if ever I think I'd want the new Noise Marine figures, maybe I should. So I contacted my local FLGS and asked if they'd set aside one of the ones they got in for me... and they said all the ones they were getting were spoken for.

(This has never happened before... for every other game that sold out online within an hour of pre-orders going live - Blackstone Fortress, Cursed City, a few of the Kill Team boxes, etc - I always got a copy! Mind you, I usually asked about them weeks before the pre-orders go live...)

I checked online and the Warhammer website sold out within minutes. I checked a half-dozen Canadian online retailers, and they'd all sold out as well...

I snoozed... I losed...

At that point I decided this was the universe telling me just to give up on it and paint my damned Aeldari if I wanted to work on 40K stuff...

So, I let it go and moved on...

And ordered a BUNCH of World War Two miniatures...

Somehow, even though it's been over a year, completely forgot that WE HAVE A WARHAMMER STORE in Saskatoon now and, despite the fact that the Mail Order pre-order sold out... the STORES would be getting copies... and I completely forgot about that until Friday evening...

...when the local Warhammer Store posted this on their facebook page!!

I had a hard time getting to sleep friday night as I was so annoyed with myself for not having thought of that!? And also there was a bit of me that still kind-of wanted to go and get one... but also a large part of me wished I'd never seen that and was really happy to have moved onto Bolt Action and returned to World War Two gaming and just wanted to let it go...

I mentioned it to Amanda in the morning and I didn't even propose the idea getting, I just mentioned that the store had some and I felt silly that I hadn't thought of that and recognized that I'd moved on and spent the money on other things....

And she said I should just go get one..!?

So Saturday morning I rode out to the Warhammer Store!

And just before noon, I bought the last of the six copies they had!

I pedalled home as fast as I could and like a little kid at Xmas I  tore into that box!

So many fun things!

Fancy cards... though... it didn't seem like there were a lot of them...?

Fancy new Special Edition Codex... started flipping through it.

There are not a LOT of Data Sheets (or whatever they're called now)... a LOT of the stuff I have is NOT in the book... Uggggghhhh.... am I STILL going to have to buy the Chaos Space Marine book to field all my things!? Where's he page that says what other chaos things I can take that are in the Chaos Space Marine book...?

(There is NOT such a page...)

My Emperor's Children force went from this... (yeah, there's still a lot that needs painting... )

  • Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour (1) 95 pts
  • Heretic Astartes Daemon Prince (1) 180 pts
  • Sorcerer (1) 60 pts
  • Master of Possession (1) 80 pts

  • Traitor Guardsmen Squad (10) 70 pts (which I forgot to include in the picture...)
  • Venomcrawler (1) 120 pts

Total: 2430 pts!

to this... HALF the stuff I have... no longer playable as Emperors Children...

  • Lord Exultant (Old Chaos Lord) (1) 85 pts
  • Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (1) 195 pts (the old Keeper of Secrets)
  • Sorceress 70 pts
  • Tormentors (old Chaos Space Marines - with bolters and plasma guns) (10) 190
  • Infractors (old Chaos Space Marines - with bolter pistols and close combat weapons) (5) 95 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Chaos Terminators (5) 175 pts
  • Chaos Terminators (5) 175 pts

Total: 1390 pts

(plus the stuff that came in the new box... that adds another 465 points)

Also, if I take one type of Detachment, I can add all sorts of Daemons of Slaanesh - which I have a LOT of!

DOH!!

(Oh, they can all still be used in 40K... just not as Emperor's Children, I'd have to pick up the Chaos Space Marine codex and field them as Black Legion or some other "generic" Chaos Space Marine force... Am I going to DO that... probably not anytime soon!)

AND THEN!

Hang on a moment... NOISE MARINES AREN'T "BATTELINE"!??!

THEY CAN ONLY BE FIELDED IN UNITS OF SIX!

So.... I went from being able to field units of 5-20 in Eight Edition... and as many units as I could stuff into a detachment... to units of 5-10 in ninth edition (could still do it with the thirty I had!) and could still do so at the beginning of tenth (and, presumably the current 10th Edition Chaos Space Marines Codex still allows it - though I expect an errata will change that with the release of the Emperor's Children). I never picked it up, but I assume there may have been a similar rule that if you were playing Emperor's Children, noise marines would be battleline (therefore allowing you to take up to six units of ten...)

But now they are definitely no longer Battleline... and just have the six in each unit and cannot be reinforced (to twelve)... So in an Emperor's Children army according to this now codex, I can only field EIGHTEEN Noise Marines...

I now have FORTY-TWO of them!?

FML...

I guess this falls under BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!!?

Also the new Noise Marines look like they are going to be HUGE - they will dwarf the old ones... Heck, they look like they're going to dwarf my old Terminator!?

Do I keep the old ones and just play with those (and put them on the bigger 40mm bases)!? Sell off the new ones? Or build and paint the new ones and retire the old ones...? Or use one unit of three of them... Hang onto the others in hopes there are Apocalypse rules at some point in the future again!?

I'll admit I was a little disappointed upon this realization, but I am not despairing.

I am trying to stay mostly focused on finishing up forces for Bolt Action. I did assemble the Lord Exultant.

Age of Sigmar - Chaos Sorceress on Daemonic Mount

I picked up this miniatures years ago. I found it at my FLGS, it was old even then! I'd hoped I could use it with my fledgling Slaanesh Daemons/Slaves to Darkness force... alas... there were no warscrolld for Chaos Sorcerer(esse)s on steeds (other than a Manticore..? I think...?).

I picked up a copy of Season of War: Thondia last summer when all the Third Edition books went on deep discount sale - and found there was an section called Anvil of Apotheosis, wherein you could make CUSTOM heroes for just about any faction in the game for play in Narrative or Open Play games... there were SO MANY options you could give to your heroes... and you could put them on a mount! I hoped they'd do something similar in the Narrative expansion books for the new edition... but i seems they're putting them in the Battletomes... and with less options for customization... which was a little bit disappointing... But, on the plus side, Slaves to Darkness was one of the first Battletomes and, despite the lack of fun upgrades specific to wizards, I can now field a Chaos Sorceress on a Daemonic Mount for 150 points in Narrative Play/Paths to Glory games!

Shalayla Daemonkist, the Enraptured Reveller of the Lacerating Titillations - Chaos Sorcererss (on Daemonic Mount!)

I think the upgrades I'll be doing with are:

  • Chaos Sorcerer Lord - 2 Destiny Points
  • Daemonic Steed -5 Destiny Points
  • Weapon Master - 3 Destiny Points
  • Diabolic Strength - 3 Destiny Points
  • Grandfather's Blessing - 2 Destiny Points

Total: 15 Destiny Points - Aspiring Champion 150 points

Other than the basic Chaos Sorcerer Lord package... there wasn't much specifically to buff wizards...

I may swap in Bringer of Fire for either Weapon Master or Diabolic Strength...? Bringer of Fire seems a little more wizard-like... but it's only 2 Destiny Points and I wouldn't be using the full 15... ah well...

All the Slaves to Darkness so far...

Wow... I REALLY need some TROOPS for this force... so far it's pretty much Characters and monsters!

(I do have some Chaos Knights in the works!!)

(and the Darkoath Fellriders/Mounted Chaos Marauders are STILL there too!)

AND ANOTER MONSTER!?

Once I have the Chaos Knights done, I'll have a 1000 point force ready for Path to Glory!

I'd hoped to get in a game with Orion this weekend, but it seems I've caught the cold Keiran brought home earlier in the week and mostly just want to sleep... bah!

We'd been planning to try out Five Men in Normandy or Five Men at Kursk... (as she has already painted a squad or two of the WW2 Americans I traded her earlier in the week!!) Perhaps I'll use the down time to refresh my memory of the rules by playing through the second game in the Five Men in Normandy Solo Campaign I'd started last year!
