Bones V

The Bones V Kickstarter finally arrived...

The kids and I spent some time sorting it out this afternoon.

I was surprised how excited they were - considering neither have shown ANY interest in painting miniatures over the last year or so!

Even a few months ago, when we finalized our order, there was much disappointment about the things were WEREN'T going to be getting - there WAS just SO MUCH cool stuff in this Kickstarter, but Amanda kind of put her foot down and put a limit on how much could be added.... Which was surprising as they hasn't painted anything all last year, why were they so excited to get more!?

I guess we need to set up a painting area for the family again soon - BEFORE they lose interest and

This is my haul. There are actually only seven miniature figurines there (the Yokai... well... and YOGSOTHOTH!) Most of what I got was paints and piles and piles of little terrain bits.

Played a game of Necromunda yesterday afternoon. Hopefully have that game report up in the next day or two. I'd hoped to play some more Age of Sigmar  thsi week, but... stuff happens... I think Finnegan and I are going to set Tuesdays aside for a weekly game day.

More Dwarven Highlanders (and Reaper Bones III Arrives!)

My penultimate entry for the Lead Adventure Forum’s Lead Painter’s League. Tomorrow the entries for the final round should go up.

(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version):

A batch of Dwarven Highlanders from Black Hat Miniatures.

All of the Highland Dwarves so far...

These are all being painted and organized into a warband for Dragon Rampant. The new figures from Black Hat will not form a unit on their own – well, some of them will – the Chieftain and a couple attendants will form a unit. The rest of them will be distributed between all the other units of Dwarf Highlanders.

The Clan Chieftain and his guard. I’m not sure if they should be a reduced model unit of Bellicose Foot or count them as Elite Foot…?

The ordinary units of Highlanders I figured would be Bellicose Foot. I’d considered giving them the “Terrifically Shiny Armour” upgrade, just to make them a bit tougher… But now that I have SIX units of them, it makes sense just to call them plain Bellicose Foot @ 4 points each.

Here are all the Dwarven Highlanders I have painted up so far organized into units for Dragon Rampant: three units of Bellicose Foot plus the Clan Chieftain – whatever he ends up being. I have another three to finish up (which will actually be 30+points when I’m done – more than the “standard” 24 points… but that’s how I roll…).

I suppose this could currently be fielded as a 24 point unit if I called all four units Bellicose Foot with the “Terrifically Shiny Armour” upgrade (the Chieftain being a reduced model unit…).

In addition to this Highland Dwarf Warband, I have a completely separate Mountain Dwarf Warband I’m working on for Dragon Rampant… and they are not always friends… The recently posted Dwarven Rangers are part of the Mountain Dwarf Warband.

In other news…

Our Reaper Bones Kickstarter rewards arrived….

It took some time to origanize all the stuff and make sure whe’d gotten all of the stuff we’d ordered.

Then we needed to split it all up so everyone more or less got what they wanted…

I got most of the Cthulhu stuff – including the Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath, Shub-Niggurath (the Black Goat of the Woods herself), Dagon and some Deep Ones, and something called Frogemoth (which seemed pretty otherworldly/Elder Godly to me…)

I had hoped with the LPL out of the way I would buckle down and got some stuff done for other people that have been sitting on my workbench a little too long… but I think there’s probably going to be a fair bit of assembling, basing and priming this week… of the Reaper stuff as well as a few other things that I’ve been wanting to finish up assembling and priming so they can all go back into their storage boxes and not take up so much space! (unassembled minis take up way more space than assembled ones – and I running out of space!!!)

Dwarven Gold Fever Kickstarter

My miniatures from the Lead Adventure Miniatures Dwarven Gold Fever Kickstarter arrived today!

I was a bit anxious when it first arrived as the package was a WRECK!!

Looked almost like it had been pretty beat up and completely soaked and dried up again - the few packing foam bits had almost completely dissolved!? Tape all coming off address label just barely held on!

Big holes in the side!?

I think it was a box originally, but it looked more like a lumpy, crumpled envelope!?

But when I checked over the contents - everything was there! Only two bent axes and one broken staff!

So I've been busy sticking them on bases - though I didn't have enough washers to do them all... Tempted to paint up a team of these for thsi week's Lead Painter's League!

Goodies in the Mail

Yesterday a few packages arrived for me in the mail...

First a truck brought by this parcel!

Almost two years ago I Kickstarted High Frontier Third Edition. A friend had highly recommended the game - having played a previous edition (2nd, I think ) - but when I sought out said edition they seemed to be selling for $200-300... or that's what people were ASKING for them, I have no idea if anyone would ever PAY that much... So when a kickstarter came along for a new edition that, including shipping, would end up costing me less than $100, I jumped right on board.

It originally listed the estimated delivery as September 2015... I guessed they must have had everything completed and all their ducks in a row to print and distribute... Not so much, I guessed wrong. I started to wonder if it would EVER show up. But it has. And I'm super excited to try it out - I LOVE games by Phil Eklund (LOVE, not like, LOVE!). It is a beast - I'm sure the box and it's contents was over 5Kg, and the rules look... well... very "in depth"...? We're going to try and have a go at it this weekend.

They also included a copy of Ares Magazine, which Finnegan seemed rather interested in...

Later in the day the regular postie delivered THREE MORE (considerably smaller) packages:

This included orders from Perry Miniatures, Eureka Miniatures USA, and Black Hat Miniatures. From Perry I got some Musketeers to finish up a few units of Shot for The Pikeman's Lament, three heavy cavalry (two to complete an element of Kn for DBA-x army and another to finish another unit for The Pikeman's lament) and some ECW Casualties for morale failure markers. From Eureka I picked up some of Montrose's Irish - a unit of Pike and a unit of Shot as well as a couple of preachers and James Graham (Marquis of Montrose) himself (on foot!). From Black Hat I got some Dwarvish Highlanders to finish up a few units for Dragon Rampant.

I'm still waiting on a few orders from my post birthday spree. I ordered some MORE English musketeers as well as some Scots Musketeers and Pike from Dixon Miniatures. I ordered some Winter of '79 miniatures from Miniature Figures (to go with some Mike Bravo Miniatures State of Emergency figures, which I crowdfunded last year and have also now finally shipped - and will hopefully be here SOON!). I ordered an additional pack of Irish Pike and a mounted version of James Graham from Warlord Games while they had a free worldwide shipping deal on. And finally I'm expecting some Dragoons and armed civilians from Redoubt Enterprises.

Oh and there's the order I placed with Hasslefree back in January... which STILL hasn't arrived. I have to admit I'm exceedingly disappointed by this. I've had such exceptional service from them in the past. But I've send five emails to three different addresses over the last couple weeks - an even sent a message through facebook -with no response...

Oh and I also found out this morning that the creators of the Jet Bike Construction Kit Kickstarter just shipped out rewards to Backer #100 (they've been casting and shipping them out in order of backer number since the campaign ended). I'm #108! So hopefully I'll be seeing those pretty soon - sooner than then expected shipping date of June!

In other news... In addition to basing and priming all these new arrivals I've been desperately trying to finish up this Polar Lights Lost in Space Robot for a friend that I've been sitting on half-fisnished for FAR TOO LONG! He's been waiting for this longer than I had to wait for my High Frontier Kickstarter... I painted The Mummy for him a while back... I still have two more to do... I am going to finish them before the end of the year!
