Estenna of Brighthall, Sloppity Bilepiper, and other Goodies.

I had a nice little ride out to the Warhammer Store this afternoon.

It was nice and cool (I am not a fan of the heat!) but not cold!

it's a lovely time of year to ride up and down the river valley with all the fall colours.

I like to get out and enjoy it BEFORE IT SNOWS!

I also stopped by campus to drop off Amanda's tea and snack, which I'd noticed she'd left on the counter.

I rode out to see if the rest of the goodies from the Store Anniversary event had arrived, and indeed they had! I stuck around and had a nice chat with the manager, John. There may have been a bit of ranting about the new Warhammer Quest... but ultimately admitted, we'll both probably end up buying it!?

I noticed they had Squig Plush Slippers this year (to match the Squig-Mega-Hoody I bought last year!?).

The Goodies: Metal Dice, Dice Cup, Estenna of Brighthall (who I will be painting up as an Anvil of the Heldenhammer and giving a new name!)... and a wooden box/dice tray thingie...? Apparently they were for a previous event... but there were loads extra, so they were given out as a bonus thing...

And then while I was there, I picked up a Sloppity Bilepiper... I was going to wait until the Maggotkin were DONE before I bought any more... but I was there... they had one in stock... I am almost done the Nurgle Spearhead... so...

The inside of the dice box... I guess tokens and other things can be store in there... during play. Not sure they could be transported in there as they'd just fall into the larger section on the other half..?! Maybe a card could be placed between the two halves whild transporting - as it's held together by magnets... Not sure I'm going to trust magnets to hold it together while stuffed into a bag for transit, though...

I guess it was for celebrating the opening of the 200th Warhammer Store in North America...?

I am nearly done the Lord of Afflictions and Pusgoyle Blightlord. Expect pics of the finished minis by the weekend. Maybe. And then a game report of these guys fighting the Sylvaneth in Ghyran! A classic AoS match-up!!

Warhammer Store Anniversary Event 2025

I can't believe it's been here two years already!

I rolled out to the Warhammer Store for their Anniversary Event today. I picked up a few things. None of it was impulse buys, really. It was all (well... mostly..) stuff I would have gotten at SOME point... just buying it all now got me some some FREE stuff...

Here's what I picked up:

  • Stormcast Eternals Battletome
  • Soulblight Gravelords Battletome
  • Nighthaunt Battletome
  • Maggotkin of Nurgle Spearhead
  • Knight-Zephyros Estenna of Brighthall
  • latest White Dwarf

The Battletomes because I have enough of those to field armies... thought I might as well have the rules...

The Maggotkin of Nurgle I've been thinking about for a year... I thought  it would be fun to have a spearhead for each of the Chaos Powers (also gives me a cluster of fun things to throw at players in Soulbound!)

(the above image is Copyright 2025 Games Workshop and used here entirely without their permission)

Estella of Brighthall is not in the picture of the haul because she is shipped AFTER the anniversary event (they don't ship them to the store beforehand to guarantee that they neither run out nor have extra stock at the end of it all! I should get it her in the next week or two...) Did I NEED this... no, not really... but it's such a fun, dynamic model... and could be a player character in Soulbound...

I'll probably paint her up as an Anvil of the Heldenhammer and give her a new name, though...

(the above image is Copyright 2025 Games Workshop and used here entirely without their permission)

Above are the goodies I'll get for buying all this stuff during the store anniversary event. The dice cup and metal dice are kind of... meh... I could take them or leave them (the dice could be handy for keeping track of command points, or something similar, I guess... I imagine that the weight of them would mean I'm less likely to accidentally pick it up for a dice roll...). The Neoprene game mat is what I was most interested in! One side has a Spearhead battlefield printed on it.

Like Estenna, this stuff also ships after the event, so I'll have it all in a few weeks!

I also got a coin and a pin and a spare deck of Spearhead cards (just in case I ever have five friends over and we want to play three simultaneous games of Spearhead on the three maps that I own (or... WILL own, when the neoprene one arrives...)

I kind of wish all the Spearhead maps were printed like this. I know they'd cost a bit more, but the neoprene mats are so much more durable than the cardboard ones.

Conveniently, because I got a bit ahead with the last few batches of undead, even with buying ANOTHER Spearhead, I've still painted more than I've acquired this year. I MAY dip back into the red when I pick up the Helsmiths of Hashut box in a week or so... (Or maybe not if I crank through another unit or two this week!!)

I did get in a few more games of Spearhead with Orion yesterday, hopefully I'll get those game reports up later today!

Spearhead - Anvils of Heldenhammer Vigilant Brotherhood versus Soulblight Gravelords in Shyish

My freshly painted Anvils of Heldenhammer Vigilant Brotherhood saw some action Friday evening against Orion's Soulblight Gravelords Bloodcrave Hunt.

This game, Orion used her Sir Raven the Dour miniature (her character from the What We Do in the Realm of Shadows Soulbound role-playing game campaign!)

So we imagined this taking place during the Soul Wars era - which was probably after Sir Raven lost his lands to the Khornate invaders, but before marching off with his household to Ulgu to start anew, conquering new lands and raising a new army...

Lord Vigilant Thadeos Doursoul led a conclave of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer's Vigilant Brotherhood on some do-gooder mission to foil Nagash, the Lord of Death's dastardly plans!

Sir Raven's Bloodknights took the initiative and charged clear across the plain of Dollorum across, which the small forces faced each other, and crashed into the unit of Liberators.

Some charged clear past the liberators to engage Lord-Veritant Shandra Moongheist!

Things not starting off great... one of my first rolls - to save the damage dealt to Lord Veritant. She saved on 4+ (she had a 3+ save, but the weapons had Rend 1, so) 4+ meant, statistically half should pass! She might have lived if I could make average rolls... Alas...

And so it was that Lord-Veritant Shandra Moongheist was cut down before my first turn and flashed back to Azyr on a blinding bolt of lightning, to be reforged on the Anvil of Apotheosis!

Meanwhile the Liberators smashed down a few of the Blood Knights, largely ignoring the horde of Deathrattle Skeletons that had joined the melee. They were joined by Rhea Swiftwing's Prosecutors...

Sir Raven yelled "BAT!" and burst into a cloud of small bats which flew in a swarm across the battlefield and reappeared behind his enemies lines!

Liberator Petra Hammerforged and Prosecutor Zisis Skystrike were cut down by the Blood Knights and similarly burst into a flash of Lightning that carried their souls back to Azyr...

The Liberators continued to pound on the Bloodknights, determined to have their vengeance!

The two remaining Prosecutors retreated behind a fence to observe the Vampire Lord, stalking about their rear area...

They even threw a few javelins at Sir Raven. On struck him and did some damage!

With the Blood Knights dealt with, the Liberators turned on the Deathrattle Skeletons that had been harrying their flank!

Sir Raven charged the Prosecutors and with monstrous speed leap up and swatted Prosecutor Carissa Spearflight out of the sky!

Three terrifying Varghiests dropped from the sky near Lord Vigilant Thadeos Doursoul, but seemed disoriented or confused and paused a moment as if unsure which way to go!

Lord Vigilant Thadeos Doursoul charged out at them on his trusty Gryph-Charger Cracker, striking them down with his Hallowed Greataxe!

Eventually, Sir Raven sent Prosecutor Prime Rhea Swiftwing, the last of her flight, back to Azyr...

The remaining Liberators surged forward to deal with a new unit of Deathrattle Skeletons that rose up out of the ground. They'd lost Liberator Athos Hammersoul fighting off the last of the previous group of Deathrattle Skeletons... Liberator Lukas Surehammer was lost fighting this bunch...

By the end only Liberator Prime Darrion Hammersmith, Liberator Xenia Brighthammer were left of the original Liberators...

Lord Vigilant Thadeos Doursoul had chased off the last of the Vargheists, but was seriously injured in the process.

A second group of Prosecutors arrived to cover the retreat of the survivors.

Sir Raven persisted, but wasn't about to take on the rest of the Conclave on his own. They'd been bloodied and were leaving the field of battle, there was no need to pursue... for now...

It was a fairly close game. The Stormcast Eternals are hard-hitting mo-fos... if i could make just AVERAGE dice rolls, they'd have been terrifying and utterly destroyed the Soulblights... alas... I lost by one point...

Next time, Sir Raven, NEEEEEEXT TIIIIIIIMMMME!

The Stormcast were pretty fun to play. I should probably listen to the Soul Wars audiobook...

Amanda said she's willing to give Spearhead a try next week sometime! So stay tuned for that!! We probably won't be getting back to Warhammer Quest until the first week of September though... this week Morgan and Amanda went out to see Midsummer Night's Dream at the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan, and this coming Wednesday, Morgan and Amanda and Finnegan have a recital as they've all been taking singing lessons over the summer!

Anvils of the Heldenhammer - Viglant Brotherhood Spearhead

Here it is, finally, the Anvils of the Heldenhammer - Viglant Brotherhood Spearhead!

This is the Fifth Spearhead army I have completed!

Anvils of the Heldenhammer - Viglant Brotherhood Spearhead

This Spearhead contains:

General

  • 1x Lord Vigilant on Gryph-Stalker

Units

  • 1x Lord Veritant (with Gryph-Crow)
  • 3x Prosecutors
  • 5x Liberators

Lord Vigilant Thadeos Doursoul on his trusty Gryph-Stalker Cracker!

Lord-Veritant Shandra Moongheist with her Gryph-Crow Yazik!

Three Prosecutors (Prosecutor Prime Rhea Swiftwing, Prosecutor Carissa Spearflight, and Prosecutor Zisis Skystrike!)

Five Liberators! (Liberator Petra Hammerforged, Liberator Athos Hammersoul, Liberator Prime Darrion Hammersmith, Liberator Xenia Brighthammer, and Liberator Lukas Surehammer)

I also made a set of Control Tokens for the army. Not my BEST freehand painting ever... but they'll do...

Other Spearhead Armies completed, so far...

Hedonites of Slaanesh - Blades of the Lurid Dream

Blades of Khorne - Bloodbound Gore Pilgrims

Sylvaneth - Bitterbark Copse

Blades of Khorne - Fangs of the Blood God

or you can see ALL of them Here:

Age of Sigmar - Spearhead Armies Gallery

I still have a bunch that I've acquired (or... MOSTLY acquired - still needing a unit or two, here or three...).

Anvils of the Heldenhammer - Lord Vigilant on Gryph-Stalker and Prosecutors

Finally, the last of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer Viglant Brotherhood Spearhead is COMPLETE!!

Lord Vigilant Thadeos Doursoul on his trusty Gryph-Stalker Cracker!

This was actually the FIRST miniature I started on for this Spearhead - and had completed MOST of it last year before setting it aside to work on other things.

Three Prosecutors; Prosecutor Prime Thea Swiftwing, Prosecutor Carissa Spearflight, and Prosecutor Zisis Skystrike!

I'll make a separate post for the complete Viglant Brotherhood Spearhead in a moment...

Anvils of the Heldenhammer - Knight-Questor Odysseus Blackcloud

Not actually part of the Vigilant Brotherhood Spearhead... but just a character I happened to be working on along with all the other Anvils of the Heldenhammer.

Knight-Questor Odysseus Blackcloud

As a Knight-Questor, he only nominally is a member of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer and, for the most part, just goes off on quests and adventures of his own, often charged with quests by Sigmar himself!

As an Anvil of the Heldenhammer, Odyseus Blackcloud, lived during the Age of Myth, died in battle against the forces of Chaos and went off to live out his eternal afterlife in an underworld... until Sigmar came for him, snatched up his soul and reforged him into a Stormcast Eternal. Anvil of the Heldenhammers in general are a brooding, dour lot... but Odyseus is and exceptionally brooding, excessively dour fellow. He does not thank Sigmar for this second eternal life of servitude and suffering and death and reforging. He does it. But he doesn't like it. A small sliver of hope resides in him that after enough successful quests, Sigmar might release him from his service and return him to the underworld from whence he was captured... but simultaneously knows this is impossible and should Sigmar release him, Nagash would punish him far worse...

The model is Severin Stealheert - from Steelheart's Champions (a Warhammer Underworlds warband of which I've had several over time...) Steelheart, I'm pretty sure, was meant to be a Liberator Prime - the leader of a group of Liberators... back when some Liberators carried things other than BFHs for their weapons... I'm using the other two as Liberators, but thought this big brute with the great sword striking a pose looked more like he could be a Knight-Questor.

Anvils of the Heldenhammer - Liberators

The next unit of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer is complete...

Liberators!

Liberators are generally armed with BFHs (Big Fucking Hammers!). Either one BHF with a Shield... or just two BFHs... or just one really REALLY BIG BFH...

The fun thing with Stormcast Eternals is you CAN name all of them... they don't die forever. When they are dealt what would be a mortal wound to any other creature, they just flash back to Azyr in a bolt of lightning and get remade on the Anvil of Apotheosis... (there are some exceptions... but, generally speaking...)

So we have... Liberator Petyra Hammerforged, Liberator Athos Hammersoul, Liberator Prime Darrion Hammersmith, Liberator Xenia Brighthammer, and Liberator Lukas Surehammer.

(Too on-the-nose? too SILLY? I can never tell... After painting names on and taking pictures I felt like there was an opportunity missed to have named one of them Emma C. Hammertime... I guess I do have other units... I could continue the naming converntion!?)

I have two more units of five Liberators to finish up... but neither are needed for the Spearhead army, so I won't be doing those right away... I kind of just want to knock out the three prosecutors and finish up the Lord Vigilant and be DONE with the spearhead and move on to other things!

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

New Stuff Saturday!

Rolled out early to the Dragon's Den to pick up the new Blades of Khorne Battletome and some fancy dice and a hard copy of a novel I've been listening to as an audiobook... because... REASONS!

Then I rolled over to the Warhammer Store to pick up the new Free Miniature-of-the-Month. They were flying out of there fast. two groups walked out with them while I was locking up my bike...

This month's mini is a Space Wolf Blood Claw. I might just give it to Orion, as she plays Space Wolves... or I may try to convert it into an Emperor's Children Infractor... as I am ONE SHORT of a unit of ten!? I guess I could just use ANY random space marine for that purpose, though...

I should be preparing for a role-playing game or drawing my next picture for RPGaDAY... but I have a feeling this afternoon will be spent reading the new battletome!!

Age of Sigmar - Stormcast Eternals - Faction Update

As with the Blades of Khorne, I'm not posting this Faction Update because these are any sort of priority, it's because there aren't a LOT Of them and they're ALL assembled and in, more or less, one place

There is one odd thing, in that this is really TWO forces... there are elements from two separate Stormhosts... and multiple Chambers... it gets a bit messy...

This is what I have and what I still need to do as of the beginning of January 2025...

Hammers of Sigmar

The Hammers of Sigmar is the bog standard Stormhost (much like Ultramarines) a LOT of the background fluff written has involved the Hammers of Sigmar and ALL of the Stormcast Eternal Warhammer Underworlds warbands have come from the Hammers of Sigmar Stormhost...

All of my Hammers of Sigmar Stormcast eternals are simply ALL THE WARHAMMER UNDERWORLDS WARBANDS!?

Painted

These are all the Hammers of Sigmar Stormcast Eternals I have done.

All Warhammer Underworlds warbands and Valius, the Keeper Aqshian, pilfered from the Saviours of Cinderfall box.

I'm not entirely sure I can even cobble these togeher into a useable force in Age of Sigmar anymore. I could in 3rd edition... But now..? I'm not sure what Valius, the Keeper Aqshian would count as...? Lord-Castellant? Lord-Celestant? Even if he WAS one of these, that would mean he could include four units from the Warrior chamber in his regiment... except that... While Steelheart’s Champions and Xandire’s Truthseekers are from the Warrior Chamber... Stormsire’s Cursebreakers, the Castigators and Ironsoul's Condemnors are from the Sacrosanct Chamber, and The Emberwatch are from the Vanguard Chamber, neither of which could be included in his regiment...

I might have to just know that these are for Warhammer Underworlds and role-playing games only...

Heroes

  • Valius, the Keeper Aqshian...?

Units

  • Castigators (3) 110 - Sacrosanct Chamber

Legends

  • Steelheart’s Champions (3) 110 - Unique, Warrior Chamber, Infantry
  • Stormsire’s Cursebreakers (3) 130 - Unique, Sacrosanct Chamber, Infantry
  • Xandire’s Truthseekers (3)  130 - Unique, Warrior Chamber, Infantry

Ironsoul's Condemnors isn't even listed in Legends!? They are Sequitors, but you need five of them to field a unit... I guess they're just Warhammer Underworlds warbands now... or useable in Warcry or Soulbound or other games...

Still to DO!

On the plus side, I don't have a lot to do for these... Just two Warhammer Underworlds Warbands; the Emberwatch and Domitan's Stormcoven (which, in Age of Sigmar, isn't even a Legends unit, it's just called "Stormcoven")

Units

  • Stormcoven (3) 210 Warrior Chamber

Legends

  • The Emberwatch (3)  140 - Unique, Vanguard Chamber, Infantry

When it's ALL DONE

All the stuff together.

Yeah... I don't even know how I could organize these for use in Age of Sigmar anymore... and that's okay, I guess...

Anvils of Heldenhammer

The "real" Stormcast Eternals force I have for Age of Sigmar will be from the Anvils of Heldenhammer Stormhost! They have black and gold armour and wear red capes. Elements of thsie stormhost are present in Aqshy and have a stormkeep in Anvilgard - where a large part of the Shadows in the Mist campaign for Soulbound takes place!

Painted

Well... this is all I have painted for the Anvils of Heldenhammer... One Knight Questor... I got a lot to do!!

Still to DO!

This is all the [faction] I still have to do

[another list]

Heroes

  • Lord-Vigilant on Gryph-stalker (1) 180 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, Any Ruination Chamber, Any Warrior Chamber
  • Lord-Terminos (1) 150 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, Any Ruination Chamber, Any Warrior Chamber
  • Lord-Veritant (1) 120 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, Any Ruination Chamber, Any Warrior Chamber
  • Knight-Questor (1) 120 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, Any Ruination Chamber, Any Warrior Chamber - can be included as Stormcast Exemplar
  • Lord-Imperatant (1) 140 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, 0-1 Gryph-hounds, Any Warrior Chamber

Units

  • Castigators (3) 110 - Sacrosanct Chamber
  • Liberators (5) 100 - Warrior Chamber
  • Liberators (5) 100 - Warrior Chamber
  • Praetors (3) 150 -  Warrior Chamber
  • Vindictors (5) 100 - Warrior Chamber
  • Reclusians (3) 140 - Ruination Chamber
  • Prosecutors (3) 140 - Ruination Chamber

Legends

  • Steelheart’s Champions (3) 110 - Unique, Warrior Chamber, Infantry

Steelheart's, though, are a named unit from the Hammers of Sigmar... so I thought I might use Steelheart as a Knight-Questor and the two others as bonus/alternative Liberator miniatures...? Or maybe they'll just be used in role-playing games as well...

The Castigators might also only see use in skirmish games or role-playing games... as I have no one that can lead troops from the Sacrosanct Chamber!?

If I don't really consider Steelheart or the castigators, that's 31 Miniatures... surely I could get these done in a few weeks, if I set my mind to it! Maybe a month...? But that's not going to be THIS month...

When it's ALL DONE

All the stuff together.

When I'm done I should be able to field...

Lord-Vigilant General's Regiment

  • Hero - Lord-Vigilant on Gryph-stalker (1) 180 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, Any Ruination Chamber, Any Warrior Chamber
  • Stormcast Exemplar - Knight-Questor (1) 120
  • Unit - Prosecutors (3) 140 - Ruination Chamber
  • Unit - Liberators (5) 100 - Warrior Chamber

Lord-Terminos' Regiment

  • Hero - Lord-Terminos (1) 150 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, Any Ruination Chamber, Any Warrior Chamber
  • Stormcast Exemplar - Knight-Questor (1) 120 (Steelheart Miniature!)
  • Unit - Reclusians (3) 140 - Ruination Chamber

Lord-Veritant's Regiment

  • Hero - Lord-Veritant (1) 120 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, Any Ruination Chamber, Any Warrior Chamber
  • Unit - Liberators (5) 100 - Warrior Chamber

Lord-Imperatant Regiment

  • Hero - Lord-Imperatant (1) 140 - 0-1 Stormcast Exemplar, 0-1 Gryph-hounds, Any Warrior Chamber
  • Unit - Gryph-hound
  • Unit - Praetors (3) 150 -  Warrior Chamber
  • Unit - Vindictors (5) 100 - Warrior Chamber

Total: 1560 points

Well, when I'm done I'll have another Spearhead army, a force that can be used in a 1000-1500 point game, and LOTS of options for allies and encounters in the role-playing game...

Bringing the Stormhosts Together!

You know, sometimes, in times of crisis, multiple Stormhosts are brought togehter... what would THAT all look like, if I had them all done...

Both Stormhosts...

fielding them gets even messier!? Let's maybe just think of it as lots of potential ally encounters for the role-playing game...

Stuff to GET!?

I really, REALLY don't think I'll NEED to get anything for these... ever... Certainly not this year...
