Bad Pritt - Debris (2023)

The Italian artist appeared already on my blog, beck in 2018 with this self-titled album. It's the highest time to mention him again as the music on his new album, Debris, should make a lasting impression on anyone.

The musician uses various means to create his gloomy, unnerving soundscapes. The neoclassical bits in his compositions can be equally beautiful and nerve-wrecking (as they are in February 6th). The deep industrial electronica surprises the audience from time to time with the clear bass lines. The overwhelming noise that can bring madness and make you lose all the peace in your soul. Everything here is intense and I feel like this is where the "cinematic" part of Bad Pritt's music description comes to place: there's no cinematic grandeur here, but a lot of emotions and very cinematic way of expressing them. I would love to see the movie for which this would be a good soundtrack.

This distorted celebrity is actually an Italian musician's project that is "largely based on electronic new romantic, while you can already listen to the echoes of post-rock fury" and a bit of "neoclassical electronic music". Sounds complicated? The important thing is that the music is breath-taking and you can feel it thanks to released in September album Bad Pritt.

First sounds on the album are warm basses that are being joined by the following electronic samples and neoclassical fragments. The feeling of unsettle and danger is especially stressed out by electronic backgrounds - sometimes more subtle, sometimes rather soul-crushing. The fact how well they cooperate with the neoclassical elements is best seen in the brilliant Stalagmite in which the violins and the electronics sound as if they had always been meant to accompany each other.

From time to time there is also some of the vocal sounding a bit neurotic among all those elements (it's at its best in the ballad entitled Burning Bridges). The album has a very concrete and perhaps a bit pompous message: the man versus the technology versus the nature and how they influence each other. Fortunately, the album, as the author writes, "in spite of frequent dramatic tones, remains a secretly pop product" and so it is very difficult to press stop while listening to it.

Ten wykoślawiony amerykański celebryta to projekt włoskiego muzyka, który jest "w dużym stopniu oparty na elektronicznej muzyce new romantic, podczas gdy można też usłyszeć echa post-rockowej furii", a także trochę "neoklasycznej elektroniki". Brzmi skomplikowanie? Ważne, ze muzyka aż zapiera dech, można to poczuć samemu na wydanej we wrześniu płycie Bad Pritt.

Pierwszy dźwięk albumu to gorący bas, do którego dochodzę po kolei następne elektroniczne sample i neoklasyczne fragmenty. O poczucie zagrożenia i niepokoju, które nie ustępuje ani na chwile w czasie trwania albumu, dbają elektroniczne podkłady czasem bardziej subtelne, czasem wgniatające w ziemię. To jak dobrze współgrają z elementami neoklasycznymi najlepiej widać we wspaniałym Stalagmite, w którym skrzypce i elektronika brzmią jakby od zawsze miały sobie nawzajem akompaniować.

Od czasu do czasu słychać też trochę neurotyczny pośród tego wszystkiego wokal (najlepiej brzmi w balladowym Burning Bridges). Płyta ma bardzo konkretne i być może pompatyczne przesłanie: człowiek versus technologia versus przyroda i jak na siebie wzajemnie wpływają. Na szczęście płyta, jak dodaje muzyk: "mimo częstych dramatycznych tonów, pozostaje sekretnie popowym produktem" i dlatego nie da się od niej oderwać.
