Wander - First Love (2020) EN

Not gonna lie, I stumbled upon the Ohio Wander by coincidence thinking it's something new from the great California post-rock band. But I can't complain as the debut (not counting a single from the beginning of the year) and very short EP First Love turned out to be quite good.

So it appeared that the Ohio-based artist doesn't make post-rock but pust-punk and does so in a really interesting way. Obviously there's some of the lo-fi vibes but it's made up by the atmosphere that's created by inteligent lyrics, minimalist compositions and super darkwave vocals in some moments fittingly dispersed. But in Wander's darkwave, there's more from the dark sadness than the euphoric appreciation of darkness and maybe that's why it turned out to be so good.

First Love costs whatever you want to pay.

Nie ma co kłamać, na płytę ohioskiego Wander natrafiłem przypadkiem myśląc, ze to coś nowego od świetnej kalifornijskiej grupy post-rockowej. Ale nie mogę narzekać bo debiutancka (nie licząc single z początku roku) i króciutka EP-ka First Love okazała się być całkiem niezła.

No więc okazało się, że artysta z Ohio gra nie post-rock a post-punk i robi to w bardzo interesujący sposób. Naturalnie słychać trochę lo-fi'owej atmosfery, ale płyta nadrabia to  znakomitą atmosferą, na którą składają się inteligentne teksty, minimalistyczne kompozycje i bardzo darkwave'owy wokal należycie w niektórych momentach rozproszony. Jednak w darkwavie Wander więcej jest z atmosfery mrocznego smutku niż euforycznego zachwytu mrokiem i może właśnie to jest jej największą wartością.

First Love kosztuje tyle, ile chcesz zapłacić.
