Dream Field 209 - Fading (2023)

Adam Boehm from Wisconsin makes his music as Dream Field 209 and his cozy and atmospheric dreamy ambient has this something that draws attention of the audience, as proved by his new album called Fading.

It seems that Boehm is extremely hard-working as this is his 3rd (!) album this year already. I have not listened to all of them, but I can say that Fading includes some particularly mesmerizing music. The artist doesn't use vocals but, regardless, dream pop is the best way to describe those oneiric, hazy and beautiful soundscapes. They are all about subtle synth noise and guitar-based, simple but pretty melodies that are sometimes closer ambient and sometimes closer to acoustic bedroom pop. The longer the album goes, the more droney the compositions become and it ends with the faintest dronescape in Iced Coffee and Lavender Clouds. This means that the album delivers what its title promised: the fading of music that feels like the year that slowly turns into the stillness of winter.

inamomentimalive - The Sea Remains the Sea (2022)

Tony Olla, the Wisconsin-based artist creates his music under the moniker of inamomentimalive. His heavy, multi-layered ambient certainly brings a lot of nostalgia to the listeners' lives. His new album is called The Sea Remains the Sea.

And just like the title suggests, it is filled with tons of massive sadness. Just like the sea, the music here is beautiful and calming on the surface, but it certainly can be felt that there's unfathomable, unnerving presence of something great underneath. This grandeur of the ambient soundscapes is the first thing that comes to mind, thanks to the heavy drones but also the multitude of tiny, buzzing sounds all over the compositions. This sea sounds very lively indeed.

In/Animate - Portals (2021)

The Wisconsin-based In/Animate is a solo project that started in 2018. After several singles, it's resulting now in a long-play debut with a moody and modern cover art signalling the moody and modern content of Portals.

The sound here is defined as "synthesizers and a mix of acoustic and electronic percussion to create music with influences of post-rock and IDM" which basically means the marriage of the electronic and the post-rock into one, extremely attractive and homogeneous entity. You can hardly say it's one of them with traces of the other, it's both at the same time. The post-rock-originating compositions are very complex and overwhelmingly monumental, just like the best works of the genre.

On the other hand, it is accompanied by heavy electronica that is very much responsible for the melodies and "riffs" but also often breaks the composition, a trace of what dub steps does on much larger scale. Also the overall theme of the album is set in the sci-fi and space exploration tones. This whole thing results in outbursts of dark energy that can power up your lives with ease, as well as in "fresh sounds to transport you to different dimensions" as the musician states when talking about his artistic goals.

C. Vadi - Geology Volume I (2020) EN

The season of super moody ambient pop is still on. This time the genre is represented by C. Vadi, not very well known artist from Wisconsin who released, however, already five albums, the last one, called Geology Volume I, in June.

It's filled with airy pop with minimalist, sometimes really drone-soundscape-ing backgrounds, very often being tracks on their own. And together with them there are beautiful vocals the vibes of which are sometimes more folkish, sometimes dark folk, sometimes even sacral (as in Wind Without Breath (Vocal Meditiation 1). The album shows a healthy balance between tracks that are clearly ambient, those ambient-pop and those combining the two kinds (like the wonderful Effluvia). This calming and meditative session is finished with a real ethereal spectacle in Alps and then in the lullabying Re-Death. Beautiful.

C. Vadi - Geology Volume I (2020) PL

Sezon na nastrojowy ambient pop trwa w najlepsze. Tym razem gatunek reprezentuje C. Vadi, mało znana artystka z Wisconsin, która jednak ma na koncie już pięć płyt, a ostatnią, Geology Volume I, wydała w czerwcu.

Wypełnia ją eteryczny pop o minimalistycznym, czasem wręcz dronująco-soundscape'owym podkładem nierzadko będącym utworami samymi dla siebie. A na nim pięknie funkcjonują wokale czasem folkowe, czasem darkfolkowe, czasem wręcz sakralne w brzmieniu (jak w Wind Without Breath (Vocal Meditiation 1). Płyta prezentuje jednak zdrową równowagę między kawałkami na wskroś ambientowymi, bardziej ambient-popowymi i tymi, które udanie to łączą (znakomita Effluvia). Ta sesja wyciszenia i medytacji kończy się prawdziwym eterycznym spektaklem w Alps, a potem jeszcze usypiającą do końca Re-Death. Piękne.
