zarr. - sojourn (2021)

Kamal Manzar, the British artist known under the moniker of zarr., appeared on my blog three years ago with his album Cloudform. Now his back with the new one called Sojourn and fills it with heavy and beautifully droning ambient. 

The release is meant to be the reflection on the process of getting and losing inspiration with the changing atmosphere and "moods mirror[ing] the initial feelings of contentment when inspiration strikes followed by the feelings of deliberation and despondency when it escapes [the artist's] grip". Perhaps that's why it took him two years to finish writing the album. To be fair, it is also a very long release: well over an hour of good quality, mysterious and thick-layered music. He admits that this album presents his somewhat darker side and I can definitely see that, the drones here fit the nostalgic autumn time so well, it wouldn't be a surprise if a listener shed a tear when listening to this music, especially when the super airy backing vocals come to the play.

Zarr., or Kamal Manzar, is a musician from United Kingdom, who creates an atmospheric ambient music that is likely to be used as a background for the moments of thoughtfulness. He just released his longest album to date, almost an hour long cloudform.

As he explains in a long description (that is worth reading on your own), the album presents the similarities between weather and life, as the troubles come and go as we are stuck in the "process of enduring its trials". Also, the album helped Manzar fulfilling one of his dreams: combining his ambient music with poetry. The latter was provided by Anjali Oza whose poem Cloudform can be read on the musician's Bandcamp site. This poetic soul in Manzar's music is to be admired by other artists and is worth diving into, on this impressive album.

Zarr., a właściwie Kamal Manzar, to muzyk z Wielkiej Brytanii tworzący atmosferyczny ambient mogący służyć jako tło do rozmyślań nad życiem. Wydał właśnie swój najdłuższy album w karierze, blisko godzinny cloudform.

Jak wyjaśnia w obszernym opisie (który warto przeczytać i wgłębić się weń samemu), album prezentuje paralele między pogodą a życiem, tym jak przeciwności losu nadchodzą i przemijają, a my tkwimy w "procesie przechodzenia przez jego próby". Również ta płyta pozwoliła spełnić Manzarowi jedno ze swoich marzeń: połączenie jego ambientowej muzyki z poezją. Tej ostatniej dostarczyła Anjali Oza, a wiersz Cloudform można przeczytać na stronie bandcampowej muzyka. Właśnie tej poetyckości w muzyce Manzara może pozazdrościć niejeden artysta, warto się w nią wgłębić na tej imponującej płycie.
