I couldn't find a lot of information about this band, but I first came across their 2025 EP towards the end of last year and thought it showed promise, and here they are back already with a full-length album. Empire Of Torment seems to be a 1-man project, and I like the instrumental aspects of the songs. I also like the way the dude's voice sounds; it's deep and intelligible, but there is something about the lyrics, which seem to have a strong Christian slant, and the delivery he uses that sounds a bit ham-fisted (contrived) at times.

I am not sure why, but for some reason, I wasn't that excited to listen to this album even though I have always liked this band. Well, my lack of excitement was unfounded because this album is sofking good. I had thought their previous album was their best work, but this surpasses it in my opinion.

Here is another band that was new to me when I came across this disc back in September, but I am glad that I found them because this is a highly entertaining album with several cool little quirks in each track that keep me engaged from first to last.

From what I can tell, this is a one-man project from Perth. The style is tagged as death metal/deathcore, but I don't necessarily hear a lot of "core." There are some quirky elements incorporated into the music, but I think it works quite well to create a heavy and entertaining vibe throughout.

I have been following Ashen for a few years now, and I like their style; it's straightforward, dark, & blasting. There's really not much more you can ask for, except maybe to pick up the pace a little more often, but that's just my tastes.

Gutless is a 4-piece band from Melbourne, Australia and with High Impact Violence they stomp through 8 tracks of grisly, visceral death metal in just over 26 minutes. The production on this album is more raw and muddy than I typically prefer but it works well for these tracks adding to their putrid charm. Listen & support if you like what you hear.

I found this CD at Best Buys back in '04 or '05 and I had not heard of these guys but decided to purchase this disc and I liked it but it wasn't one of my "go-to" discs. Then, I saw them live in '08 or '09 touring for Ob(Servant) and I gained more appreciation for the band after seeing their performance. This is my own rip and probably their best release.
