Following up on 2022's Nocturnal Sickness Cryptic Hatred has quickly become my favorite band in death metal. This young foursome now has two insanely solid releases since their formation in 2019. With Internal Torment the riffs, the bottom end, the vocals, the production, everything is perfect for my tastes on this album. Since starting The Death Chamber I have spent most of my free time searching for new music and creating posts for the site. One of the downsides of this is that I typically don't do a lot of repeat listening to newer albums because there is too much new material to review every year but this year there have been a few albums that I keep going back to and Internal Torment is very much at the top of the list for me, this is easily my AOTY.

200 Stab Wounds is one of my favorite newer American bands and I have thoroughly enjoyed everything they have released so far. For me, Manual Manic Procedures is very close to contending for AOTY but it will most likely end up at the #2 spot for 2024 (see Cryptic Hatred). The songs on this album are well constructed with a heavy groove, killer leads, tight drum work, and a pristine production that works perfectly for these tracks. Like Cryptic Hatred, this is only their 2nd LP so I am very interested to see the growth of both bands in the future.

Gutless is a 4-piece band from Melbourne, Australia and with High Impact Violence they stomp through 8 tracks of grisly, visceral death metal in just over 26 minutes. The production on this album is more raw and muddy than I typically prefer but it works well for these tracks adding to their putrid charm. Listen & support if you like what you hear.

Ad Vitam Infernal is a 2-man project band from France and when I first came across this a couple of months ago before the album released it was the artwork that struck me and seeing the band name I immediately thought black metal but much to my pleasant surprise this is solidly blasting death metal of the finest vintage. They have a 2020 album that I want to explore as well.

I picked this up a few months back and the band name leaned a little "core-ish" so I wasn't sure what to expect but then 2 songs into it I was like "damn this has real potential" and then by the end of the album I was like "shit that was good!" Listen and see what you think.

Even though they have been around for almost 20 years and the majority of their releases are highly rated on Metal-Archives this is my first introduction to Mammoth Grinder and I have to say that I really like these 5 tracks. It seems that their early work was more hardcore punk style but this EP is death metal all the way. I am going to check into their more recent albums for sure.

This is an interesting album to me but this style won't be for everyone that's for sure. The main man over at Transcending Obscurity has been crushing it for years now with so many interesting bands and releases and this is another one.

This album was released by the band in 2023 but I didn't become aware of it until this year when it was re-issued by Awakening Records, who happen to have many good releases by the way. I was listening to this album again the other day and really appreciating their technical melodic style of death metal that somewhat reminds me of a modernized In Thy Dreams. When I found this back in June I confused the band for another Antagonist from Switzerland who plays blackened death metal. I have an album by them that I never cared much for but this band is from Russia and they have 2 previous LPs, which are available on their Bandcamp page for NYP. I like this album a lot as they have a good grasp on what they're doing and these songs are highly entertaining to me.
