I had two different "Vomit bands" in my July folder: this one and the next post, Vomitizer. I really didn't expect much out of either album, and then I ended up liking both releases a lot. It goes to show that first impression bias can be very damaging. Portugal has been generating a lot of good bands/releases over the past several years and this is another one.

CarlG mentioned this disc yesterday and I immediately thought of the Belgian band Pestifer but this band is from Portugal and this is their new release. Even though I was aware enough of this band to purchase their 2017 album when it first came out I don't think I had ever listened to it completely until yesterday. These guys are creating some killer death metal.

For my tastes, Portugal has one of the better up-and-coming death metal scenes over the past few years with excellent releases from many different bands, and now Phenocryst is here to raise their banner as well. I went down a rabbit hole at Bandcamp a while back and came across this album and it has wormed its way into my brain with a display of substance and diversity. I hope these guys keep it together because they have a promising future.

This disc came out in April of last year and I completely ignored it, primarily because of the slam tag, I am not a slam fan by any stretch of the imagination.
