So, in 1997 Black Mark released a 2nd EOS album called Cryptic, which was the first ever without Dan Swanö but the rest of the band was there to perform and personally other than the first track Hell Written, I didn't really care for the album and in my opinion EOS was no more. Then in 2003, Dan released Crimson II without the rest of the band and this is the only Edge Of Sanity LP that I do not own a physical copy of. I actually think this is a pretty good effort considering he is doing almost everything himself (there were guest musicians on the album including Mike Wead - Candlemass, Merciful Fate/King Diamond to name a few of his bands) and while I like the contributions of the entire band on the previous albums I think it is obvious that EOS was Swanö.

Edge Of Sanity was my first favorite death metal band. I had a lot of favorite metal bands throughout the '80s but EOS was my first truly favorite death metal band in the early part of the '90s because at the time I needed something a little more accessible to get me into the genre and The Spectral Sorrows & Purgatory Afterglow did that for me. I felt like this album was better than it was reviewed and discussed over the years. My favorites are the highlighted tracks. I know it is very melodic and "commercial" sounding but there are some good songs here in my opinion. This and all of the older albums are my own CD rips \m/\m/

This was, is, and always will be my favorite EOS album because I think the riffs on this album are sick as fuck, just listen to that first riff in Twilight and then the ones in Elegy they make my eyes roll back in my head and just wanna bang my head. The 6 highlighted tracks are the draw of the album for me and they represent essential death metal.
