Virvum - Illuminance [2016]

Running this blog has certain perks, with one being that I have "met" several cool people over the past few years, and I have discovered and been turned onto some killer music. One of the other perks is that I am considered a member of the Alternative Media and as such, now and then, I receive advanced copies of releases to review. Today, I received the new Virvum, and while I knew it has been getting a lot of hype on social media, based on the 2 tracks that I had heard before today I wasn't completely convinced, but now that I've listened to the entire disc, I have to say that the hype is mostly deserved. Their sound is technical, progressive, melodic yet aggressive modern death metal. Finely crafted like a Swiss watch the 8 tracks that comprise Illuminance take the listener for a bit of a journey that turns out to be quite satisfying in the end. For my technical death metal dollar I prefer the new release by Orphalis, but this disc, due out 9/16/16, is going to satisfy a lot of tech junkies. Check it out and support these guys \m/\m/
