I wasn't really anticipating this album, and as such, didn't know what the band was going for with this release. My first impression upon listening was that this album had a very melodic, almost 80s heavy metal feel in several of the riffs. It reminded me of late 90s melodic Euro-death when the genre was going through a bit of an identity crisis. Then, I read up on the album and learned that a heavy metal feel was what the band was going for when they created these tracks. I'm not going to say that it works completely from start to finish, but overall, I like this album.
