Batcave scene (Rob / Stephe)
What is Batcave when it comes to goth? Well it was a club night in London that started up in 1982 and is often considered the birthplace of Southern English goth. The name became associated with a goth sound and the term Batcaver was used to describe fans who would adorn themselves in batwing coffin necklaces to distinguish themselves from other punk clubs. And what was the sound exactly? So it wasn’t exactly anything other than goth but there were elements of electronic music, glam rock, gothic rock, dark cabaret, and death rock. Some bands that I think had an early influence include bands like Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Killing Joke
BAUHAUS - Bela Logosis’ Dead (Small Wonder)
KILLING JOKE - Requiem (Malicious Damage
SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES - Christine (Polydor)

The Batcave night was run by two members of the Specimen who were considered the house band. Lead singer, Olli Wisdom ran the night and guitarist Jon Klein was the art director. Initially it started out as a new wave and glam rock night, but it grew to focus on the goth scene. So this next set will be bands that were part of that specific scene, starting out with Specimen and what I think is their most popular song.

SPECIMEN - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Sire)
ALIEN SEX FIEND - Outta Control (Crypt Music)
SEX GANG CHILDREN - Oh Funny Man (Kamera)
TEST DEPT. - Shockwork (London)

We’re gonna go out with some local expressions of punk in this realm. Nash's first solo performance and live presentation of music to film occurred when he played his soundtrack to Luis Buñuel's silent film Un chien andalou (1929) at The Original 99 Cent Roxy Theatre in Toronto on March 17, 1975. I thought I heard someone talking about Nash performing the soundtrack that he composed to Nosferatu live at the Bloor Cinema. He composed and recorded the soundtrack in 2001 ad Rue Morgue wrote about this release “Nash's soundtrack to the 1922 silent film. Nash shadows Murnau's plot from the sunny opening, through the Borgo Pass to the scuttling darkness of Shreck's vampire. Added to his original score are interpretations of Fauré's Requiem and Saint-Saens's Danse Macabre, a nod to the tradition of scoring Nosferatu with dark classical music. A formidable stage presence, this one-man symphony of terror has brought new light -- and shadows -- to one of the genre's earliest cinematic triumphs.” Rue Morgue But what I want to say is that I feel like Nash the Slash is a proto version of this style of music where mood and feeling played a more dominant role in the sound.

NASH THE SLASH - Dracula Unpacks (Cut Throat)
NORDA - West Over Seas (Smash)

UK82 (Chris)
BLITZ - Propaganda (No Future)
MAU MAUS - Clampdown (Pax)
G.B.H. - Passenger On The Menu (Clay)
RABID - Axeman’s Knell (Fallout)
BLITZKRIEG - Destruction (No Future)
