Radio : EXD 1350 - Sunday August 24, 2025

Download the show here

SCREAM - Banging the Drum (Dischord)

That was Keya Chatterjee from the Free DC movement interviewed on Democracy Now this week. As DC has been taken over by the Federal guards, citizens come out at 8:00pm to bang pots and pans. 8:00pm represent the 8 Districts in DC as a show of solidarity against an occupying force. People power can bring down dictators. WWII fascism started out as patriotism in defense of a country and then a slowly narrowing insider group as the manufacturing of domestic enemies became weaponized to crush dissent.

This episode was put together by Andre Zadorozny, Bee Traverse, Christian Overall, Rob Ferraz, and Stephen Perry.

This is episode 1350 of EXD. On this edition :
  • We talk with Sarde about the Filton 24, a group of young adults being incarcerated under a terrorism act. This incarceration has implications to personal freedom with regards to activism.
  • We feature new releases by Recall, Angel Face, Bilious, 1-800-Mikey, Traidora, Te Fading Signal, Fan Club, Twenty One Children, Inefables, and Rebelmatic

Armʼs Race features Ola and the expression of solidarity in Beeʼs opening set is because Ola is part of the Filton 24. The Filton 24 are a group of activists being incarcerated under a terrorism act in the UK. This application of the act has serious consequences for activism in a 2025 context of authoritarianism. Sarde has spoke with Ola and I asked Sarde to tell us about the Filton 24 situation. Hereʼs that conversation.

The back cover of the CD was taken at the corner of Queen Street West and Spadina, one of the punkest corners in Toronto. The photo was taken by Alisdair Jones, the bassist of the legendary No Mind. Immediately the photo reminded me of an Existers photo that was taken for the song "Spadina Avenue" which is the B Side to "Telex Love". The band told us a great story about how they had to keep running out in the middle of the street during light changes to get this photo. It took about six tries. Love the streetcar lines above them.Next Saturday is International Womens Day and we had received a number of releases of punk bands with women in them so here is a set to celebrate women in punk.
