Tonight we are celebrating 50 Years of CanCon and it’s influence on punk. On January 18th, 1971, Canadian Content became a part of the Broadcast Act and was implemented through minimum percentages of hourly Canadian airplay. You might have heard us use the term Can Con. It is a short form for Canadian Content. Like other countries in the world Canada became concerned about championing our own culture. In the 60s radio airplay was dominated by British and American acts. So on January 18th, 1971, Canadian Content requirements were added to the Broadcast Act. Radio stations were required to program somewhere between 25% which has now been increased to 40% of programming by Canadian artists. In Scandinavian countries their content requirements are higher to help preserve their culture with good success. And the same is true here. You can download this show here.

The ripple effect of Mein Trumpf's hockey dad response to the real threats by the boys in blue on People of Colour spread out world wide this weekend. The push back happened and although we are hopeful that something will come of it, the problem is a decades old problem. Looking back over forty years of punk the one theme the comes up generation after generation is how badly the cops suck. Thanks to everyone who contributed on facebook with their suggestions. We weren't able to fit all of them in and it is clear that we could probably do a second show. Sadly we probably will have to because if you are a Person of Colour or a Punk George Floyd's experience is going to happen again. Hope this can become a soundtrack for resistance. Tonight's show featured a studio 3 session and interview with the Sofistifucks who I learned was an idea for Sick Error and their guitarist Paul, who plays in the Sofistifucks. The Sofistifucks have been around since 2011 when they recorded a 7 song demo, have toured out West, and have released a full length titled "...And then they came for me" that you can hear a sample of on bandcamp. Tuesday was our third attempt to record the band and we conducted an interview afterwards. which you can hear above of download an MP3 file here.

Inspired by the recent Toronto Mayor's escape to rehab the innocent story is a little tired and there is lots of speculation out there that this is part of some redemption story.
