Tonight’s show includes covers of Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, the Beatles, and the Equators. We have a lot of bands from around the world including punk bands from China, Argentina, Malaysia, and Slovenia. But we are going to start things off with a tribute to Frederick Nathanial Hibbert, better known as Toots Hibbert, singer for Toots and the Maytals. “Toots” passed away last Saturday which is a week ago from air time but only a few days when we started producing this show. And tributes galore have been aired on radio shows for this soulful ball of energy of a singer that started out in the ska era and coined the next incarnation with his song “Do the Reggae”. Why are we eulogizing a reggae artist on a Punk show? Because Toots had an impact on the early punk artists like the Clash. I got to see Toots at the Concert Hall and it was insane as the 60 year old he jumped from start to finish in rude boy style. And he was still performing at the time of his sudden illness. I am going to start out with a song that everyone has been playing. This is Pressure Drop as covered by the Clash on “Black Market Clash”.

This show was inspired by a feature in a weekly entertainment magazine known as Now. This past week they did a feature on the Best 50 albums by Torontonians. They had a punk singles list which made very little sense given the enormity of the period and the nubre of bands that have put out great things so we did our own list based on Generations of punk. This is a DVD release for all the various projects Wayne Brown has been involved with. Wayne was the original singer in the Fits. He did some music projects with Sam Fererra of the Ugly and Steve Leckie of the Viletones. He started a band with Freddie Pompeii in new york City called Thee Immaculate Hearts. There is footage from all four of these projects on the "What Makes ya Think You're so Amazing Baby?" DVD.

Various Artists "Smash the State, Volume 1" LP

This was the first volume of what would become a series of comps that would pay tribute to out of press Canadian punk singles. It was a companion piece to the book by the same name and was compiled by Frank Manley and released under the label No Exit Records. Frank was living in Montreal at the time. I know because I distributed these in the city for him. Unlike the Killed by Death series, Frank received permission from the bands to press the eps on this LP format. As a result he was able to include a number art collages related to the band. below are scans of these pages. Click on them to open up larger versions of the pages.

This was a 7" that accompanied the release of the "Smash the State" booklet. It was limited to 500 copies and featured only one song from the band's 7". This was the first No Exit release. One side features bands from Alberta and one side featured bands from Ontario. The Wild Rose side had:
