Demo Feature
NEVERGREEN from Long Sault, Ontario, just outside of Cornwall. This recording was recorded in the basement of the brother’s basement. The brother’s I am speaking of are the Sharron brothers. Jon and Matt. They would go on to start HACKSAW. And then Jon would continue on in a string of bands that included Union of Uranus, Rammer, Brutal Knights, Valley Boys, Hassler, and more recently Plastic Heads. All bands that have gotten a decent amount of airplay on the show. But NEVERGREEN were the beginning of it all.

This show was inspired by a feature in a weekly entertainment magazine known as Now. This past week they did a feature on the Best 50 albums by Torontonians. They had a punk singles list which made very little sense given the enormity of the period and the nubre of bands that have put out great things so we did our own list based on Generations of punk. We started off with the punk scene and then we did the hardcore scene. Then we looked at the 90's and the new milennium. Here are the respective lists in reverse order....

This was a booklet that accompanied a tape compilation called Summer Squash that was put together by Melanie Aguila and Chris Iler of Fans of Bad Productions. Band sincluded on this com are Roctopus, Superfly, Sons of Ishmael, Kingpin, Phleg Camp, Tent of Miracles, Deep End, Epileptic Brain Surgeons, Guilt Parade, Shark Graffitti, MSI, One Blood, Totenhanz, Suckerpunch, Change of Heart, 5Ft. Nothing, No Identity, 4-1/2 Reasons 4 Abortions, Liquid Joy, and Mud. there was also some words about the clubs at the time. The recordings are live soundboard tapes.

Zine - Rear Garde #31

Issue #31 of Rear Garde published in March 1989. This issue featured interviews with Soul Side, Rocktopus, Sonic Youth, Hazy Azure, Shadowy Men from a Shadowy Planet, and 7 Seconds. There are scene reports on Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa and concert and music reviews.

Rocktopus cassette

Formed out of Mike Marley and the Sailors this cassette came out in 1988. The band was made up of Stimey Rockpile on vocals, Buzzy G-Reen on guitars, Bruce Gordon on bass, and Buttermilk Jones on drums. The songs on here are:

This zine was done by John Barbisan, who would just starting to play guitar for Hype at the time. he had a few co-cospirators like John and Julius who would go on to start Sketchy Records and rob ben who would be known for his Scallen-esque like photos of the Toronto scene at the time. The zine had a skate sub text and this first issue had a cover drawn by Brian Walsby as well as a scene report on L.A. written by Mr. Walsby. This must have been shortly after he had moved to Raleigh. This first issue features an interview with Mike Marley and the Sailors who would go on to become Rocktopus. There was also an interview with DRI where Spike was looking an awful lot like David Lee Roth of Van Halen. Don, a.k.a. Reuben Kincade has a column in which he writes a bit about Pete Warner's suicide. There is an interview with DOA at a show they did on November 30, 1985 at Ildiko's. There is a good scene report that situates the zine at a time when the DMZ closed down but Ildiko's had just started doing shows. There is an interview with the Asexuals at one of their Toronto shows. Neil and John from Neon Rome are interviewed. There is a photo page and a column by Rad Man on skateboarding and a rant about how snowboards suck.
