That was Keya Chatterjee from the Free DC movement interviewed on Democracy Now this week. As DC has been taken over by the Federal guards, citizens come out at 8:00pm to bang pots and pans. 8:00pm represent the 8 Districts in DC as a show of solidarity against an occupying force. People power can bring down dictators. WWII fascism started out as patriotism in defense of a country and then a slowly narrowing insider group as the manufacturing of domestic enemies became weaponized to crush dissent. 

This episode was put together by Andre Zadorozny, Bee Traverse, Christian Overall, Rob Ferraz, and Stephen Perry.

Armʼs Race features Ola and the expression of solidarity in Beeʼs opening set is because Ola is part of the Filton 24. The Filton 24 are a group of activists being incarcerated under a terrorism act in the UK. This application of the act has serious consequences for activism in a 2025 context of authoritarianism. Sarde has spoke with Ola and I asked Sarde to tell us about the Filton 24 situation. Hereʼs that conversation.

Back in the summer of 2018, Quatro reached out to see if we would be interested in their book on the Clash. The Clash were one of my gateway bands into punk so I responded. A few days later this beautiful hard cover book on the Clash showed up and I started leafing through it. Beautiful photos. So then I set out to start reading it. But I was so into the subject matter that I wanted to read everything and not just the skim reading that most of us have resorted to in a social media era. A year later, Nick Smash was releasing his book on the Clash in Toronto so I thought it would be a good way to reach out to the author, Martin Popoff. He agreed and we met at the Rivoli. At the event I asked Martin if he would be interested in doing an interview and the book had already sold out so he thought it would be misleading to talk about a book that people couldn't get. A year later I thought, this book is so good and people should know that an author from Toronto wrote it and so I reached out again. He agreed after some convincing. So a few weeks back I spoke with Martin with a list of questions that I wrote up over the year of reading his book. I was lucky to get to ask them. the Suicide Dates studio 3 session

This could possibly be the last time this group of individuals gets together. The band is called the Suicide Dates and is a makeshift band of mostly Career Suicide members playing with the original singer from the Dream Dates to do Dream Dates songs. The group has gotten together in the past to play release shows of the Dream Dates singles that have come out and this time is no different. On the eve of the official release of the third single from the 1979 recordings Greg Dick has pulled these guys together. They agreed to record a session for CIUT. The players who make up this band are Greg Dick who was the original singer of the Dream Dates and has since played in the Texas Dirt Fuckers and currently sings for the Ugly. On guitars you have John Sharron from Brutal Knights, Union of Uranus, Chokehold fame and Jonah Falco of Fucked Up and Scare Tactic fame. On bass is Martin Farkas of Career Suicide. On drums is Brian Christopher of the Sinisters. We packed into a sweaty Studio 3 and raced through a set of double and triple takes on a load of covers and a handful of Dream Dates originals. Greg Dick can stomp like a a punk rock Tom Connors and Brian plays like Dave Quinton doing his Keith Moon impersonations. John Sharron is cracking jokes the whole time lightening the mood and Jonah and Martin bring their enthusiasm for the material. It is a chemistry difficult to match. They jokingly described themselves as Van Halen playing Crass' gear. Have a listen to the recording on the songs below:

The Screwed are a punk band puled together featuring legends in the early Toronto punk scene. The original idea was to be a jam band that would play songs from 1977 and that lead to a CD release of covers of songs that came out in the year. Cleave Anderson, the drummer from Tyranna, the Way Outs, Battered Wives and so many other great bands came up with the idea. he convinced John Borra of Neon Rome fame and Steve Koch of the Viletones and Demics fame to play bass and guitar in this band. They recruited Steve Saint from the Sinisters to sing.

The band has started doing originals and songs from the early local scene. This session was recorded and played live on the show and what you are hearing in this session is pumped up from the downstairs studio into a channel on our braodcast board. The live session is followed up with an interview with the band trying to capture some of the significance that these folks played on the scene, but also the things that they are doing now like the various themed nights at clubs in Toronto with singers from the first wave of the Toronto scene.
