Demo Feature 

Dioxide are a new band from Toronto. They play raw punk influenced by Discharge, early Finnish hardcore and dark UK82. Distorted guitar and bass compliment the aggressive vocal. The drums keep a consistent dbeat reminding the listener of early Discharge. Formed in 2020 this is their first release; recorded live off the floor in their rehearsal space. Currently available for stream or download via the band’s bandcamp. Dioxide are Bri - Vocals, Tyler - Bass, Stevie - Guitar and Corey - Drums. Chris interviews Bri from Dioxide. Wadge “Double-Take Hawai’ian Style: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” CD

This one man blast beat grind demolition squad returns with his second Hawaiin themed full length. And the opening song “Cleared for Landing at Honolulu International (Knott’s Landing)” really does sound like one of those kitsch-ie Hawaiin meets surf style garage rock numbers. Keeping in the spirit it is an instrumental. But this window dressing is quickly laid to waste with some over-modulating grindcore. Pfeiff-dawg does go back to the surf garage sound intermittently to keep the theme running. And in some ways I think this is more than a gimmick. I think the surf sound is an homage to b-culture and the marvelous 60’s when beach movies were all the rage and the theremin was being introduced to the western world. Besides who wouldn’t want to work in that creepy space making instrument like the theremin? And the Don Knotts theme is funny especially for those of us who grew up watching re-runs of the Andy Griffith show. And I went and watched the “Apple Dumpling Gang” movie in the theatre so the “Pineapple Dumpling Gang” gag was not lost on me. WADGE continues to stretch the boundaries being at home on a mixed tape with the TIJUANA BIBLES as easily as the NO COMMENT or MAN IS THE BASTARD. Kooky and quirky this full length brings the legacy of Don Knotts into the Hawaiian fascination and makes it seem totally normal. Could a split with Hawaiian grind band MAKUA VALLEY BLAST TEST be far off in the future? Wadge "The Road to Hana" CD

Wadge are a band put together by Paul Pfeiffer from Newcastle, Ontario. Paul is an amazing drummer who has learned to play guitar and bass as well and when he is not barking out lyrics to his favourite made up tales about Don Ho and Mr. Ferley he is convincing various hardcore frontmen from the Toronto hardcore scene like Tim Freeborn of Sons of Ishmael or Chris Colohon of the Swarm / Cursed to do some vocals for his grind songs. He also has a bunch of local friends like Brad and Goebbles who make up the mainstay of the vocals on his various releases. This release was inspired after a trip or two to Hawaii. Zine - Taint #2.5

This was the last issue of the zine under this name. It came out in the summer of 2001 and was published by Matt Bickle of Slasher Records. This issue is mostly photos and I think that is why it earned the half number. Having said that this issue does feature interviews with Kent McClard of HeartattaCk / ebullition fame, an interview with Manowar, and a column by Paul Pfeiffer of Wadge. The photos include pictures of

-          Dead Nation, Ruination, Limp Wrist, Fast Times, at Chicago Fest.

-          The Locust, Reversal of Man, Bloodpact, 9 Shocks Terror, and Hacksaw at Michigan fest

-          Life`s Halt, What Happens Next, and Gordon Solie Motherfuckers at their last show in Cleveland

The photos are large and remind me of the style that Martin Sorrondeguy applied to the posters that accompanied the “Hysteria” compilation.

Wadge / Needful Things split ep

Wadge are a band based around Paul Pfeiffer who has been making these one man bands since forever. He pulls in various friends and scenesters to do vocals, but he plays all the other instruments on these releases. He is a drummer initially but has learned how to play everything else along the way. And when I say he can drum, he can totally drum. This is a split with Needful Things who are from the Czech Republic. Wadge give us five tracks of burning blastbeat grind. The lyric sheet is done in Greek and is like an ode to Agothocles. This record is limited to a pressing of 400 copies. Zine - Taint #1

Taint was the origins of Mosh Yankee. This was Matt Bickle's first issue.

He had articles on False Metal, taxes on tapes, vegan cheese reviews, Manowar, Genetically modified chicken at KFC, Dancing Moves, a re-print of a piece written by a preist interpreting Minor Threat, and a revealing list of some e-bay auction prices.

Interviews include Atom and his Package, Piebald, and Converge.

There is also some extensive reviews. Some of the bands reviewed in here include Born Dead Icons, Day of Mourning, Legion666, Blake, Wadge, Spread the Disease, and Standing 8.

Wadge / Shit on Command split ep

Martial arts worship on the cover has all the trappings of a power violence release. And some of the material on here reminds me of the SWARM in that there is some some moody hardcore with heavier dressing. But by "Eat Your Children" the blastbeats come out and you realize that the Grind behind Wadge is still there. Ripping fast hardcore that uses metal to heavy up the sound. There are some different vocalists used on the various songs which include Gobbles who does a great job of shredding my eardrums. Wadge's setlist on here is:

Shit on Command is a grind vocal with a death metal effect on the vocals. Not sure much about them, but would love to learn more.

Wadge / Pantalones Abajo Marinero split ep

Wadge's side of this split is rapid fire grind with power violence heaviness and sampling. There is no way you would know that all these instruments were played by one man, Paul Pfeiffer. It blows me away everytime I hear Wadge material. Paul enlists a bunch of singers, some with some experience, like Tim Freeborn from Sons of Ishmael, and others who are is friends. They all do a great job and screaming and growling out lyrics. If Heresy sounded more precision like they would sound like Wadge so Wadge takes the fastcoe sound to the next level of blurr. The songs on here are:

The split was done with another one man band from Minnesota Pantelones Abajo Marinero. Their side is also rapid fire drumming and slower metal played riffage. The vocals are done in those often ridiculed death core style of vocals. There isn't any information about songs. I think Regurgitated Semen Records migt have been behind the release.

Wadge / Praparation-H "What Is Thy Bidding, My Master?" split ep

Blastbeat fury right from the opening track "Trauma to the Body". And Paul's rapid fire delivery never really stops. There is a gun theme to this release if you couldn;t tell by the cover. Mike Pyette of Mr. Nobody helps out on vocals as does Brad Park. This is grindcore to the core. The songs found on here include:

Praparation-H from Cincinnati were on the flip side of this. They were a three piece and the recording had a tin can production sound to the whole thing. It is like listening to a lo fi recording, except the band is a grind inspired. Their songs are:
