Black Iron Prison - Primal Note Studio session
I saw Black Iron Prison open for Echthros a couple of years ago. Then at the end of March Iron Lung had released an album by them. I knew both Eric and Matthew from their past projects and had thought it was a shame that I hadn’t heard much about this release. I reached out to them about doing a session and they agreed. I didn’t realize that they were going to record some new material. Lucky for us to be the way that you get to hear that. We start off with a track titled “Spatial Awareness’. We recorded this at Primal Note Studios on June 8th.

Ska-outro
The Aggrolites played last night at Adelaide Hall. I didn't get a chance to go but I did look them up and am sad that I did because I found out how interesting they are. The Aggrolites are an amalgamation of two previous Los Angeles Reggae and Ska bands, the Vessels and the Rhythm Doctors. They formed in 2002 as a live backing band for Reggae icon Derrick Morgan and were asked to record music for a new Morgan album. The project was never released, but the recording sessions inspired The Aggrolites to become a permanent band. They have served as the backing band for Phyllis Dillon, Scotty, Joseph Hill of Culture, Prince Buster and Tim Armstrong. Here is a track named Jack pot from the last album that I can find on them “Reggae Now!”.

The last time we did a live session was with Jock Strap on Tuesday February 6th, 2018. That is 7 years ago. Well live sessions are back. And tonight we bring you a session with A.S.O.P. who were instrumental in making this happen for others. We recorded this session at their jam space which is named Primal Note Studios, which is a new-ish studio out at Dufferin and Eglinton area and this space has a live area where bands can perform. Ben has allowed us to record bands in this space for the foreseeable future and that was because ASOP had suggested this space and introduced us to Ben. In the tradition of naming the sessions after the studio we are calling these the Primal Note studio sessions. Chris from Big Brother and Unknown Records has recorded and mastered the session and Cody from the Filthy Radicals helped with the audio side and has also recorded video companion pieces to the session which we will be sharing on the blog and in social media.
