This was the last of the re-issue series by Frank Manley. As the other two did, this featured long lost punk singles released in their entirety. The songs found on this collection are:

Various Artists "Smash the State, Volume 2" LP

This was the second installment of the Smash the State series. This too came out on Frank Manley's label No Exit Records. Once again Frank stuck to releasing eps in the entirety. He starts out with a band from Winnipeg called Lowlife. This band featured Richard Duguay on bass who went on to play guitar in Personality Crisis. The ep re-released on this comp is called "Leaders" and was originally released on a label called Airout Music back in 1979. MP3 files can be found out Good, Bad Music for Bad, Bad Times!

The Spys were a repeat band to the series. The Spys were from Windsor and self-released this ep in 1980. The songs were "Underground" and "Machine Shop".

Private School were also on this comp. They were from Vancouver, BC and appeared on the "Vancouver Complication" comp. The band formed in 1977 originally as an art school band. The band had rotating members and at one point had Tony Bardach on bass from the Pointed Sticks. They opened for the Police on their first North American tour in 1979. The songs on here are on a self-released ep and are:

Silicone Injection self-released a 5 song ep titled "Sic Nos Non Nobis". It was recorded at R+R Studios from September 1980 to Januaury 1981. The songs released on the ep are:

The Malibu Kens were from Edmonton. They released an ep titled "Be My Barbie" on their own label Exploding Debut in 1981. The band also had some songs on the "It came from Inner Space" comp which is a little known Edmonton punk comp. Let's Dance do a tribute to the above shot in their first ep on Longshot Music. 7" from the Underground has a download for the "Be My Barbie" ep. The songs on this ep are:

Wasted Lives and Big Black Puppets were from Vancouver and featured future Modernettes and Pointed sticks members. Wasted Lives did a song called Divorce" and Big Black Puppets did a song called "False Hopes". This ep came out on Gestus Music in 1979 originally.

Porcelain Forehead "Frog Boy Lives" LP

Porcelain Forehead were from Ottawa. They had an ep out and appeared on a Blender Mix comp and the "P.E.A.C.E." comp, which was a well known comp put out by MDC on their R Radical Records label. The P.E.A.C.E. comp helped make Porcelain Forehead a known name in the punk scene. Porcelain Forehead also released a little known ep called "Right Now the World Needs a Clear Head". This LP was released in 1993 by Frank Manley who was compiling the "Smash the State" book at the time. The Porcelain Forehead material was posthumously released and recorded back in 1985. Various Artists "Smash the State, Volume 1" LP

This was the first volume of what would become a series of comps that would pay tribute to out of press Canadian punk singles. It was a companion piece to the book by the same name and was compiled by Frank Manley and released under the label No Exit Records. Frank was living in Montreal at the time. I know because I distributed these in the city for him. Unlike the Killed by Death series, Frank received permission from the bands to press the eps on this LP format. As a result he was able to include a number art collages related to the band. below are scans of these pages. Click on them to open up larger versions of the pages.

Various Artists "Smash the State" ep

This was a 7" that accompanied the release of the "Smash the State" booklet. It was limited to 500 copies and featured only one song from the band's 7". This was the first No Exit release. One side features bands from Alberta and one side featured bands from Ontario. The Wild Rose side had:

Smash the State book

This was a book compiled by Frank Manley on Canadian punk releases. He started out with a list by Tim Yohannon of MRR and started adding. There is an interview with Joey Shithead in the forward and this came with a 7" compilation of four early Canadian punk bands. This resource is often credited with starting a collector's boom of early Canadian punk material. Rightly so. It is the most thorough collection of punk releases and includes material from all over Canada. This book was released by No Exit.

Dry Heaves "Shoot Yourself" ep

A great little review of this ep exist on Canuckistan Music site. The Dry Heaves were a five pieces started up by some brothers from the Windsor area. They got to play in Detroit and some other cities in the mid-west. "Shoot Yourself" was a newer song at the time and it became the A-side.
